Actually Batman, you must have missed his post about Rocket fans be racists because we want Pike instead of Posey. I think that post actually trumped this post. And yes, thanks for quoting it. I would have also missed it for obvious reasons...
mingonly- After noticing your moniker, why even make one single comment about the Rockets? And if you feel compelled to do so, at least do us a favor and make sure it is an intelligent one. Its obvious you are lurking around here for 1 reason only.
I don't know if anyone has noticed, but it's not like our team is abounding with tradable commodities, or for that matter, cap room. The truth is, if there was a move to be made, I'm sure we would have made it (or will make it). It's no secret that Rudy wanted to trade Mobley, and everyone knows that. When you're stuck in a situation like that, teams won't want to give you equal value in return. They think you're desperate to trade. No one wants Griffin, Cato, or Rice. Why would they? Still, Griffin and Mobley are probably getting the most attention, but if the other teams are offering Austin Croshere or Morris Peterson, why would we accept the deal? The most ridiculous falacy that continues to be reciprocated on this board is that a trade works under the cap, it can be completed, and we should pull the trigger. Has it occured to anyone else that other teams want to win as well? Thanks.
I give jopatmc the "Optimist of the Year" award. I was almost laughing ... but as an optimist myself, I decided not to. Heck, look at Boston. They replaced Rick Pitino with Jim O'Brien and they go from lotto bound to Eastern Conf finals in one year. Different situation, of course, but coaching changes usually have a major impact on a team. Call me a fool if you will, but I prefer to wait and see what actually happens before posting that the sky has fallen. I love the moves LA and Minnesota made, and I know the best we can hope for this year is sixth seed and maybe one win in the playoffs, but I can't help thinking that about two dozen teams in the league are looking at our Francis-Yao core with envy and saying how r****ded their management is.
MINGONLY IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I prefer to be a realist when it comes to a team that hasn't made the postseason for half a decade (by the time April rolls around, that's how long it will have been folks!!) And now seing the absurdly EASY moves that San Antonio, Indiana and Sac just pulled off with S.A. getting Ron Mercer for Danny frickin Fairy!!! Those of you who keep flamin posters for wanting SOMETHING done can kiss our collective butts. The Rox could have easily outbid San Antonio for Mercer and been part of that trade!!! CD is as lost as Rudy was and clearly needs to go. If Yao had not fallin into our laps, Rudy would have been gone one year sooner, and CD would have followed. I pray to God that JVG is the second coming many of you think he is, because short of that, we are lottery bound!!! Again!! And, for those of you who will undoubtedly want to flame me for being pessimistic, I clearly can't stop you, but when we fail to make the 8th seed (much less anything higher) for the 5th consecutive year, I hope you'll be man (or woman) enough to come back and say you were wrong!!! (Same as when you predicted we'd make the playoffs last year and Rudy would be kept...) Oh, an BTW, if we do happen to make the playoffs without making another player move before the season starts, then yes, I'll be man enough to come back and say I was wrong as well...
...and is a 9 million dollar contract that comes off the books next summer. That is a valuable player (and he can still stick a 3 or get 2 points in the post) Patience, grasshopper. I think you will need to put some salt on that sentance after this season. Which will be remedied by the discipline of JVG's system or he will get shipped out. First, nobody wanted Taylor, and second, KT was looking for a big contract this offseason, and he got one in Philly ($50 million, right?). We would never have paid him that much and wouldn't have been able to have Posey for the remainder of the year.
San Antonio got Mercer and Turkoglu because they had the cap space to absorb those salaries. Indiana didn't have to take back any salary b/c Ferry's contract is not guaranteed. They plan to dump him. I know to you that all seems 'absurdly EASY', but in reality it isn't. Oh really? How do you propose they could have done that? Pollard is what Indiana wanted. The only reason SA was part of the deal was b/c they had cap space. So what would your plan have been for the Rockets 'outbidding' San Antonio? I guess it's possible that I'm wasting my time trying to reason with a 'realist' who thinks the Rockets would have been contenders last year had they only played Boki more.
