a) Your Democratic brothers are not even backing you on that joke of a statement. b) I am guessing that this is not truly your belief otherwise you would have responded. c) If you really believe that, well all I can say is I wish you would elaborate or some how explain how the hell you came up with that comment.

Hey, rimrocker, are you implying that a lot of those "problems" began with GWB? It is a Republican administration that put the hammer on corporate greed. That greed spread unabated during 8 years of Democratic rule in The White House. Do away with Medicare? Not avoiding war? Too much to take on.
What I'm saying is there are a lot of pithy little sayings out there that start off "you might be a Republican if..." This is a list of those... some have been around awhile. They mean nothing. I'm sure there are similar things for Dems.
Alway willing to lend a hand ... using the sorry excuse of your sh*t for brains, you foolish SoB amoral cry-me-a-river liberal" Nice try, better luck next time.
im going to go rob a convenience store. its my choice. dont end my right to choose. why am i getting arrested? im pregnant im going to go to prom im going into labor im going to have my baby and leave it in the dumpster. thats my choice.. dont end my right to choose. why am i getting arrested? im going to drown my five kids in the bathtub. thats my choice. dont end my right to choose. why am i getting arrested? i dont want to start a debate or anything. I just wish the "ProChoice" masses could come up with a better name for themselves. we have our 'right to choose' taken away all the time in everyday life. when you go out and drive 70 on the street, and you get a ticket..someone is imposing their belief system on you in that situation too... it should just be 'Pro-Abortion"...
That would be OK if the other side of the debate was accepted labels like--"anti-abortion", "government imposed childbearing/childbirth", "anti-preterm fetus termination", etc. I would say pro-choice is just as descriptive as pro-life (exactly whose life is is "pro" (you know the answer to this--they certainly don't usually mean all life or anything)--so if one gets to choose a label, the other does too. BTW in medical decisions you don't weigh culpubility (poor choices involved or not). You treat the guy who caused the auto accident just as fast the victim, you treat the smoker needing lung cancer just as much as the one who got it through second hand smoke, and you give the power to life/death and treatment decisions to those best able to represent the wishes of those involved.
Grizzled, Which party do you support? I've generally been an NDP guy but I think I'll be voting PC this time around because I really like the new Newfoundland PC leader, Danny Williams. He's one sharp cookie. Roger Grimes (the current Liberal NL premier) is a moron.
I would gladly accept the label anti-abortion. Pro- and anti- abortion are really what is being discussed, there is no point in dressing it up in tangentially related terminology.
Complete ignorance. Im against abortions. I am very close to some women who have had one (not because of me). I know they feel very guitly and they are scarred for life. But I do not judge them and I forgive them. And I try to care for them. I would never reccomend to a woman to have an abortion (and I know they would not either). But I am "pro-choice" for lack of a better term. There is a difference. Pro-life just means pro-law, pro-control. Pro-lifers could really care less about the women who feel the need, for whatever reason, to have an abortion. They just want COMPLETE CONTROL. Laws will not stop a thing, i.e. The War on Drugs. Abortions will only end when the need and or mentality to have them ends. I thought conservatives are against big government...
Monetary issues they are against big government. They want the government to keep away from their money. However, if they feel something is immoral (abortion, p*rnography, rap lyrics, sodomy, etc. etc), they want the government to shut it down.
StupidMoniker: No one is pro-abortion. No one hopes they can one day have an abortion or hopes that there will be more abortions in the world in general. No one looks forward to having an abortion or smiles when they hear someone else has had one. Both sides have chosen a name for themselves which spins their cause best. Neither is superior in this. I don't remember who it was on this board (maybe it was you), you said they were "pro-life" in all cases and opposed the death penalty on the same grounds. I have all kinds of respect for that position, not as much for the term as applied selectively. Holden: You "don't want to start a debate or anything" and then you equate abortion with drowning five kids in a bathtub? I know it's Christmas and all, but if that's what you've got to say I'd encourage you to kindly **** off. I understand that this is a hot button issue and one prone to generating simplistic, reactionary response, but to equate the difficult choice of having an abortion with robbing a store or drowning five kids is particularly petty. Abortion is legal in this country, for various reasons. Tossing a kid in a dumpster isn't. Read up a little so you can understand the difference. And please don't preface your incendiary comments with the laughable notion you're not "trying to start a debate."
The only reasoning I can see behind the "Pro-choice and against abortion" position you describe is that they are concerned about the women that would chose to have an illegal abortion. I guess this same group should also want to legalize prostitution, gambling, drugs, and any other "victimless" crime. After all, any of the things I listed would be safer if it was legal to do it and was regulated by the government. This would relate to the selective aplication of "pro-choice" as paralleled by yourself in regards to pro-life usage. I just would prefer names that focused more on the issue at hand. How about "believe life begins at conception" and "believe life begins at some later, unspecified time"? Or maybe "anti-abortion" and "not anti-abortion"? I agree that there is a certain amount of hypocrisy in supporting the death penalty but opposing abortion. I can understand where the people are coming from if the use the innocence vs guilt argument (not so much the public safety argument, as the DP has not been proven to be an effective deterrent), but I happen to disagree.
BTW, Sorry for helping to derail this thread into another abortion talk. Go about discussing your bleeding liberal hearts.
Those images are extreme, but the political terminology "pro-choice" does a wonderful mask job on what is really happening. The fact is there are a clump of cells differentiating into a living organism. Hubris leads some to point out that it's a 'human' and has a 'soul' or whatever... but the simple fact is is that it is a goal directed organism, who aspires to live a life. I shudder when I see a dead ****ing tree in someone's living room. The fact that abortion terminates the life of a primate raises that much more cause for a concern. The fact that this particular primate can wag its tongue and ponder love should raise empathy in all of us. Yeah, it's a hot button issue.
A pretty good description on my positions on such "social issues"--I am all for regulation and taxation of most of those such things as I think society is a whole lot better of with those strategies to address "sins" or persoinally unhealthy behaviors than trying to address them with a criminal justice system. Even framing the debate as when life begin ignores a couple of other issues. 1) are there/what form are the rights of the person the life is entirely dependent on (childbirth is not without its own life and health risks), 2) is the key question when "life begins" (of any form)--after all other cells including those in sperm and eggs prior to conception are also alive? For instance IMO a key part of life/personhood is viability (being able to stay alive/grow) w/o being completely, physically, dependent on another life/personhood. In other words it isn't so "clean" IMO to try to make an instant moment after the fusion of a sperm/egg as some kind obvious distinction where life didn't exist before and now it does. We totally agree here.
The only difference i see is in this case is one you are killing the kid right before it comes out, and the other you are killing the kid right after it comes out. Just a little bit of time passes (a few months), and it goes from perfectly legal to murder. well, im not sorry i used such an extreme example. oversimplified, drowning those five kids is as terrible as that woman having five abortions. go ahead and debate it, i dont care... but dont tell me to "read up" so i can know the difference... i have a firm base for my opinions...
Both sides do. And we've had some unlikely success on this board discussing this difficult issue with civility. That's because people from both sides (and in between, as I am) have recognized that the other side had a "firm base" for their opinions. You're usually a very reasonable, good poster. Here, you're just being a jerk. We all know the abortion = murder take. It's silly to act like it's some kind of fresh opinion. It's considerably sillier to pretend you "don't want to start a debate" while you repeat the most extreme, reactionary argument from the pro-life crowd. It's worthless. If you can't recognize that this is a difficult issue, with strong, difficult arguments on both sides, there's no point in discussing it with you.
