We aren't restriciting him, JVG is. He doesn't like playing rookies as it is, and so when he puts him in, I'm sure he makes it known why Novak is going in. Do anything else, and you don't see the floor again. He only got to be more "loose" last night b/c JVG wasn't coaching the team at that point.

With McGrady out, I think it is imperative that Novak get on the floor with Yao, Chuck, Shane, and Luther. Novak is the only guy we got that has the offensive potential to make teams have to scramble to stop him. He would essentially be the best replacement for McGrady, letting him handle the least difficult defensive assignment from 2-4 and letting Battier and Hayes continue to do the dirty work. If he can get some minutes and get his shot rolling, this will be the best we can do with McGrady gone. JVG really needs to get him in there and the other thing JVG has to do is pull Rafer if his shot ain't going down. Gotta have Luther or somebody out there that is hitting shots. Can't afford 2 for 8 when McGrady is gone. Just can't afford it. Gotta be playing Luther for the 3 ball and mixing in VSpan for the penetration and finish or kick outs.

MR. open your eyes and reread my post I DIDN'T say he had lost his shooting stroke. Dont try and invent words for me!!!!!! I said by the looks of things that he had lost his three point shooting ability.
I said this to point out that if JVG doesn't give players playing experience how can they continue to do what is required of them when JVG brings in inexperienced players, especially Rookies.

I think Novak needs to learn to understand the games a lot better. For the few times when he and Padgett were on the court the same time, it was almost always Padgett who was in the right position to receive the pass and shoot the ball, which frustrated me because I wanted Novak to shoot them. But Novak does not seem to know how to place himself at the right position to have the best opportunity to catch and shoot, while Padgett knows. I guess it takes time and some playing in the real games to learn.

Word of advice: when you're in a hole, stop digging. You're still trying to tell me that JVG has caused Novak to lose his shooting ability? I've seen unreasonable JVG hatred on this board lots of times, but this is just downright stupid, frankly.

DD - Your definition of "very well" is moot, when applied to 1. VSpan 2. Novak. Novak at least ventured inside the 3 pt line today and his movement without the ball was better today but both these guys are not ready to take the Rox to the next level, VSpan still can't shoot and Novak aint hitting 60% of his threes.

The idea is too take possible doubleteamer of Yao away and you do it by spreading your team on the court, not by making them close to the post.

thats the idea when tmac was playing

i am saying that in the absence of tmac we need more reliable scoring options or people we know that can consistently hit thier shots

I know novak is far from a reliable scoring option, however his accuracy should be fully utilized

    in all fairness

IIRC the 2 3s that Novak took were contested greatly (especially the first one where he had to pump fake 35times), those shots were out of his comfort zone, yet he still nearly made it

if they were open 3s I dont see why they arnt going to go in

about rebounds...I though Novak looked ok rebounding, of course against Laker scrubs but nevertheless he was good enough to catch the ball before anyone else did. And to say Novak has lost his touch is stupid, I remember at least one of his jump-shots coming off his own missed 3 pointer that he rebounded and swished right after, and it looked like his same old college shooting touch.

    Yeah, fine. Great idea.

Problem is that he's never had a mind to do that, even at Marquette when he was their best player.

I know... I go to Marquette.

Oh yeah... and anything you've heard about how bad his defense is, it's actually worse than that.

Why are we restricting Yao Ming to playing in the post?

Why are we restricting Ryan Bowen to free agency?

    Because that where he belongs.

novak is too big of a liability on d. He benched 185 for 5 reps at the combine. that's horrendous. He can't score unless he's wide open. he's a slight more athletic Scott Padgett.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
    Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
    All mimsy were the borogoves,
    And the mome raths outgrabe.

    'Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
    The frumious Bandersnatch!'

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought--
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
    And stood awhile in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
    And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
    The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
    He went galumphing back.

'And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
    O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
    He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
    Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
    All mimsy were the borogoves,
    And the mome raths outgrabe.
