But his defense was terrible last night. There was one play where he let the PG (conley I believe) go straight for an easy layup off a pick and roll in the 4th. Also, the next couple plays his help D was non existent. This was when Memphis was making that 10-0 run. Sure enough, Hill got benched in the next TO. I want Hill to play as much as the next guy, but he's still a rookie, and like another poster said, you can't spoil him. Make him earn it.
Do you think rockets Players have team e-mails? Like Jared.Jeffries@rockets.com or something? Unread messages in JJ's inbox: From: Ricky.A@rockets.com Subject: Memo - Tanking 2010 From: DM@rockets.com: Your team next season From: J.Hill@rockets.com: You're slowing my growth
why are some people hating on j.j. because n.y. did not like him, not the best but a good spot defender&can cause match up problem's for other team's he is not a starter but can help . i see him in the chuckwagon/shane mode as in what he doe's will not show up in the stat's sheet's every time but he still has value despite the opinion of D'antoni &the wiz b.t.w anybody watch the wiz or knick's they also thought t- mac was going to bring lebron to them L.O.L.
has he been playing 12 more mins consistently lately? Or is this a knee jerk reaction to ONE game? Wouldnt be the first time something like that happened and it wont be the last. Sometimes it' a better fit or a need at the time.
Geez, 16 minutes isn't spoiling anybody and his defense has not been that bad since he's been playing with the rockets. Well since it was a make or break game lastnight against the freaking Grizzlies, I can now see why Adelman pulled Hill before he could have a career night and something to build on for next season. LOL
I dont think you understood my argument from RA's standpoint. He saw Hill being lazy defensively and pulled the plug last night. What's wrong with that? Him getting benched for not putting forth effort could be just as important to his growth as him getting 30 + mins on some nights. Attitude matters just as much as having game for a young kid imo. While us fans (and maybe even Morey for trade purposes) might want Hill to play 30 + mins every night to increase his value, RA is doing what he can to develop him while still trying to win. I see no problem with what RA did last night. If we were lets say in the top 7 or so lotto teams, fighting to get in the top 5, then I understand your point of not playing Jeffries. But its really not worth too much right now....Going from pick 13 to 12....or just finish season strong and finish above .500 while playing your youngsters and veterans....I'll pick the latter in this case.
Because he is a vet and he happens to play very well that game and play some solid defense along with grabbing 10 boards and scored 13 points. If he is having a good game, why not play him?
As harsh as it can be, thats a good thing. If you can put Battier in a trade for a position upgrade, and the fallback is a Jeffries playing well within the system, why not do it? I posted in the game thread, I've seen as many aggressive offensive moves from Jeffries in 3 straight trips down the court than I've seen from Battier all last month. That doesnt mean he gets better results (like Ariza), but Ariza/Jeffries adds redundancy no matter how you look at it. As long as its for an upgrade and not trimming down just for the sake of doing it.
We've seen it time and time again. Teams get star struck with offense and offensive potential. But teams need a mix of offense and defense. Ideally you'd want someone like Hakeem who excel on offense and defense. But, ehh.. those are your true super super stars. Jeffries has a place in the NBA. They guy is a hard nosed defender. He isn't a threat offensively, but if he finds his niche on a team, he can and should be a rotation player. Yao (o) / Hill (p) Scola (o) / Hayes (d) / Jeffries (d) Ariza (d) / Battier (d) Martin (o) / Taylor (o) Brooks (o) / Lowry (d) Offensive: Yao Martin Scola Brooks Budinger Taylor Defense: Battier Jeffries Hayes Ariza Lowry Potential: Hill
