The responses are pretty tame considering how FAIL this thread is on so many levels, but I'll assume that either some people aren't sure if you're being serious, or that they are just taking it easy on you.

    Mediocre troll is mediocre.

Okay, while the thread title is phrased in a provocative way, it made me wonder about something I had never thought about in depth before...why do homosexuals seem to be overrepresented in acting and fashion (and hairdressing and flight attendant jobs)? Why do people of a certain sexual orientation seem to choose certain professions? What does one have to do with the other?

If you're gay, most likely when you were growing up, you had to learn how to act to not be completely ostracized.

I thought it was because the homo gene and the creative gene had sex.

I'm sure there are all types of people you've never met before. Are you going to make a thread for every one of them that you think might not exist ?

I think I'm tempted to start a "Why are there no peace-loving Germans?" one.

    Disregard this.

OK, Turing was one. He's more an exception, at this point.

    Groups - # of cases
    Normospermic men - 100
    Non-feminine homosexuals - 17

    I quote myself:

Maybe. But I am in the field, if that helps to know.

    Could be
. However, most I've met have been admirable gentlemen: the man's man, the bro's bro. If they were closet homosexuals, they were sure good at hiding it.

How good was he in his field?

Social science. It doesn't even scratch the level of any of the pure sciences.

Not really familiar but you don't really have to be smart to be rich, just "savvy."

    It's politics.

I think, same rationale. And, yes, I may have phrased my post abrasively.

what's your point? homosexuals are the exception. even given the most generous estimates, 10% is not a whole lot of the population. and i'm betting it's closer to 2-3%.

can't imagine why someone wouldn't disclose their sexual orientation (or why they would feel the need) to you considering how much of a dork you come off as (nice thread title). :)

anyhow, i know a couple of gay md phds that work here in galveston at utmb working with ribosomes/protein folding. have met a few others. do they have to float lightly in their loafers giving "two snaps up" to their test results to come off as homosexual to you?

not suprised at the tame responses. they should be. was this thread to be taken seriously?

because they are smart enough to not communicate with someone as stupid as you.

The percentage of the gay population is ... what? 10%

I'm a scientist. I know hundreds of scientists. And I'd say about 1 in 10 is gay. Totally gay. Maybe not wearing chaps in the pride parade gay, but gay.

Hell, the couple that introduced me to Mrs. B-Bob, all these many years ago: two lesbian scientist women. They witnessed our marriage at City Hall in SF.

I can count out of the dozens of scientists at my university... yep, about one in ten is gay.

But go ahead and discount all of this. What a moran.

It's true, I found a picture of B-Bob as proof.

B-Bob, don't you live in SF? Do you think that the percentage of gays among scientists could be higher than average there?

LOL @ photo -- only KingCheetah has found the real photo.

You make a fair point. That said, the gay faculty I know overall span the country, with more choosing university jobs in cities. ... probably, um, like a lot of homosexuals in all professions... but what do I know.
