Well, let's see for two tacos... shell: 5 cents lettuce: 2 cents cheese: 2 cents hot sauce: 1 penny (that's rounding up) meat like substance: 5 cents two bags: 4 cents labor cost: one minute of frying time * $7.15/hour (minimum wage): 11 cents Crack that they lace the tacos with: 10 cents I'd be willing to guess they could sell them 4 for a dollar and they would still make a profit on them. I can't tell you how many tacos I fried up working at JITB. Sonic tacos are better, though...
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think JITB (and BK who copied them) have good tasting tacos cause they're deep fried. They save money cause all they do is put them in the frier for 30 seconds. The tacos are shipped to the restaurant frozen. They may add lettuce but I think that's doubtful.
Interesting. Consumer: "Waiter? I'll have some of your ass of government mule. I hear that it's very addictive." Waiter: "Oui"
I actually think they're better than Taco Bell's 99c tacos. I don't really buy them anymore, haven't for a while so I think it's safe if anyone knows where it came from. Won't affect me.
The shells & meat are frozen, then fried. Then they pry them apart & add the lettuce, sauce and cheese. Like A-Train posted, it's no wonder why they're cheap: bottom of the barrel ingredients = cheap, crappy food.
having a jack in the box right around the corner from my apartment in houston was the best and worst thing about that complex....
I love me some Jack in the Box tacos, although I dont eat them much anymore. My drunken fast food stops these days usually consist of a Burrito Supreme w/no beef from Taco Bell. One little trick I always used at Jack in the Box was to order your tacos with no sauce, then request the packets of taco sauce and add it yourself. This way you wont be getting tacos that have been sitting around for hours.
I would agree with mystery meat...I still love them though...The Sonic one and Burger King ones aren't bad... I remember the 39 tacos...I lived off taco bell and jack in the crack in college...
I can't find the embed thingie, but who recalls this classic? http://www.retrojunk.com/details_commercial/2379/
