My buddy's cousin recently just passed from a motorcycle crash. He was turning out of a parking lot and the guy didn't see him. Sort of put things in perspective. I think a responsible rider knows the risks in riding a bike. But alcohol should never be mixed in with driving a motorcycle, never. If I am driving I will not drink even one drink. You need to be fully alert with all the crazy drivers out there, not to mention all the drivers that hate motorcycles such as in this thread.
run-on sentence, happens when Im in a hurry. Those should have been two separate thoughts.... DOnt get me wrong, Im not really a fan of the ones that go for the loudest they can get by taking off the mufflers....but I will get offended when I get lumped in with the dumbasses that do that. At least the loud bikes arent as dangerous to those around them than the sport bikes zooming in and out of traffic like the freeway is a slalom course.
its just lame how they get away with obnoxiously loud exhaust yet the guys who drive chevy's with cherry bombs and 350z's, Supras, RX-7's, etc. with HKS and Greddy exhaust always get pulled over by the cops becuase of their exhaust.
I want to get a Harley one day when I grow up. HPD bikes are Harleys, which I find ridiculous considering the price
why are they legal? I could see "Why are they allowed to modify their bikes to be SO loud," but you're asking why they're legal? Not all of them are as loud as the really booming thunderous ones that we all know about, but as lynus pointed out, bikes being louder is a safety feature, not a bug, generally speaking We have rules and laws about emissions and noise concerning vehicles. Your problem isn't with the bikes. I'm surprised at the disdain here, but then again...
Your bike is ugly IMO. I don't really like choppers though, so my opinion doesn't really matter. I couldn't imagine myself getting a motorcycle for the road. That said, they for whatever reason do pick up certain types of chicks(many of which are actually very good looking). Would ride though just to see how it felt. Always looks so uncomfortable to me.
Whoa, sweet ride. Can't imagine your other toys  Back on topic. Good grief folks. Such generalization. Try going to Sturgis (biggest gathering of HDs, yearly) just once and tell me what you see. You'd find RocketRick (Rockets fan) like choppers. You'd find me, graphic designer, on my customized Road King. You'd find my dad (76 yrs old) sitting atop his Road King Classic with all of his support for the military stickers and American flag. You'd find my cuz Matt on his Heritage Softtail (w/ape bars) just wanting to go for a long ride and have a beer with a pretty bartender at the Full Throttle. You'd find my cuz Mark showing the cool blue running lights on his Softail Deluxe. And when we ride, we don't go through town revving our engines to impress. Most of us understand the "loud" thing and make every attempt not to disturb. Hell, I live in a VERY quiet neighborhood and never rev the engine as I'm coming and going. So cut the generalization and know that there are hundreds of thousands HDs on the road with every type of person/character on top of them. So live with it. I live with your boomboxes from your cars. I live with dog walkers and their dogs crapping on my yard. I live and let live as long as everybody is following the same law. Heck, my wife things most of you are a bunch of wienies and she is just a wife of a guy who owns a bike. In the end, guys, we just like the wind in our hair and an open road in front of us. If you don't like bikes, fine. But don't generalize us.
His bike is pretty and his dog is awesome but it would look just as good with a muffler that made it tolerable. The engine on those bikes do not move nearly the air or run at nearly the rpm of a sport bike, they just choose to not run a muffler. These guys are the first to complain about shooting ranges not closing at 6pm, me running my welding machine or air compressor (or generator) after dark. We all are supposed to follow the rules for pollution, I just don't understand why cruisers get a free pass on mufflers.
I have a Yamaha V-Star 650 ... no Harley ... so I guess I am OK. Sometimes I wish that the bike was a little bit louder - its really quiet for a motorcycle...
