Thanks for the 411 on bodster, bobbo*.
Btw, I've noticed you sobered up quite a bit on your posting routine, dude. You've gone from a peak of close to (or over?) 10/ppd to under 8 ppd. Is it safe to say that your past your prime?

I think it's pathetic that you think there is a clique on this BBS.

I think it's even more pathetic that you are worryed about being in this non existant clique.

But it's most pathetic when you create threads to get yourself noticed and maybe accepted into this clique.

No wait, its more pathetic when BGM says you are being stupid, without mentioning the clique, then you reply by saying "I dont want to be in the clique, I really dont think it's important." But you obviously do want to be in it, and you do think its important.

I think it would be funny if BGM DOES tell you that you can't use the bathroom anymore, because you would do what he says to be in the clique, then you would poop your pants.

Nomar, I thought you and Manny were friends...that's cold, man. As for Tod the Bod, he has some of the most interesting posts. People kept on flaming him because he said Rudy should get fired and that Rudy wouldn't know how to use Pippen. Hmmmm....

jeez nomar, whats the point of your post? keep it to yourself man. is it so hard to pretend to be courteous and respectful? just move along if you hate something.
i dont know who started the clique paranoia
to me the clique refers to anyone in a thread that just have to be hostile and insulting to someone else on the thread. do you people tell each other off like this in real life? i blame the dastard DoD for getting people paranoid over this clique thing, with his claims of dock meetings.

The "paranoia" over the clique thing is only fueled by people like you. This was all started a while back when some posters from The Rocket Guy's site came over here and tried to post, but ended up flaming some people in offensive ways. They got booted. Ever since then, some of the posters at The Rocket Guy's site b**** about how everyone here is too arrogant and won't let anyone into our "clique."

This clique is a manefestation of a few other morons on the other board who don't know how to post nicely. Pretty much anyone who talks about it on this board does so in a joking way because we all know it is complete bull****. It is true, on a board like this with 3000 members or so, it does help to develop a reputation if you want to get a lot of responses to your threads, or if you don't want to get flamed for saying something stupid.

But that is not an anomaly of some "clique." It is true of all life just as it is true here. So please, stop b****ing about this so call clique, and realize that it doesn't exist here anymore than it exists in just about every other community of life, online or otherwise.

A thoughtful post, Raven, but I have to add this - even though it's BS, as someone who's been around the BBS as both a poster and lurker, I've seen how it has REALLY come about. And it goes beyond the Rocket Guy stuff.

For the most part, those that have spent an enormous amount of time here tend to ignore anything that doesn't come from other veterans. If a newbie comes around they are either completely unacknowledged, or flamed (if necessary - which is applicable at every board on the Internet sometimes) then ignored. The only time anyone bothers to respond is when a flame is needed (and sometimes not even then). But those that might have something halfway decent to say are still deemed insignificant and eventually walk away, simply because they are newbies.

Of COURSE people are going to believe this crap, because they have no reason not to. Some folks here have grown to believe their own press.

For a sports team message board, this place has become extremely inclusive. Which is sad, because an Internet BBS' needs new posters and additional points of view to grow. The opposite is happening here. I've watched it come about.

Oh, and Unbreakable was decent. :p

Rokkit, read the following thread and tell me where in this thread that the newbie who started it was flamed:

Nobody here attacks nor ignores people who have something to say...

I don't know how I'm perceived by the rest of you, but I started off as a lurker on the board. Once I started posting (for the first week or so), I thought of myself as the "threadkiller" because it seemed like whenever I posted a response to a thread, all of a sudden people stopped posting...

Once I reached a mere 20 or so posts, I noticed that this "threadkilling" did not happen anymore. I wasn't sure if I had just proved that I had something thoughtful to add (I'm not sure if this has been proved yet or not!) or if the threadkilling thing was just coincidence. I haven't felt like I'm on the outside looking in or anything like that. Nor have I felt that only certain members opinions are taken seriously. I just think that if one brings something to the table, they should be able to back it up w/ logic and well thought out responses.

And I have to add (althought this is not at all original) that I think people just want to save money!

ps- I thought Unbreakable was okay until the lame ending...

Just when I thought that glynch would overtake me!;)

Seriously, I wanted to address this subject of the clique and this thread in particular not as Manny Ramirez but as Jon Young, the man behind the poster so to speak.

Looking back it probably wasn't a smart idea to start a thread like this. And I have to admit that some of the other threads of mine of late have also been pretty crappy. I have always been a somewhat high-strung individual, if you couldn't guess that already, and although I know people are joking around sometimes I have a hard time taking it that way. This thread was never meant to be taken seriously--after all why else would I start a thread and put me in the poll as "least-liked"? I do think that what some other people have said about when a "newbie" first starts, it is hard to get people, especially the better posters, to give you any feedback. It's like you almost have to act like a troll or do off-the-wall things like this thread to get noticed. However, I have learned that when I really sit down and think about what I have to say, then the posts and threads become more respected. I always knew that but it wasn't until Behad and especially, The Voice of Reason, put together some excellent posts to this thread to show me what has happened to my posting style.

I have always been a very shy person (I know some of you would find that hard to believe) yet the people who know me have always thought that I was a funny person. Acting goofy and silly was a way of covering up or overcoming the shyness. It is hard sometimes to remain serious given the situation and it is something about me that I wish I could change (the shyness). Posting on this forum is easier for me than to approach a stranger and talk to them face-to-face. Because of that I invariably let things flow out--however it is not good to share everything on your mind.

I have always looked at the Hangout forum as a more "informal" and "relaxed" place to post compared to the main Rocket forum. As a matter of fact, I used to never post at the Hangout forum. Now it may be my favorite one to read and post. I will make an effort to try to keep the posts serious because I want people here to look at my posts seriously and not dismiss them because I have gotten the reputation of being a clown or a flake.

Yes, I do wear my emotions, sometimes too much, on my sleeve but I know that nothing is personal here. Several people have emailed me that I would have never expected and they were really nice and friendly--something that I would have never guessed!

I do admit that I probably came in here too strong and I should have just been content to lay low. I just had this idea that if a serious/solid post of mine went unnoticed then maybe acting like an idiot would get me noticed. However, I know better now and I also know that some of my last Hangout threads really should have come after being here for a year or even longer. Some of you might know that I'm a big Simpsons fan and another show that I liked over the years was the Andy Griffith Show (I never liked the color episodes). The way I have come in here is a lot like the Andy Griffith episode in which a stranger comes to town and he knows everyone's names and stuff about them. He really creeps them out and he finally admits that he had learned all this stuff from reading the local paper. He says that Mayberry seemed like a nice town and he wanted to just fit in, but he like me went about it the wrong way.

What started out as a joke (this thread) has become a real eye-opener for me. Thanks again to the VOR and Behad and also to Crisco, fba34, and ROXRAN for making me see the light and "for taking up for a flake" like me.

    Peace

    Jon

I disagree. While you certainly have been here longer than me, from my experience, I have found that when a newbie makes a well thought out, intelligent post that generates healthy discussion, accolades are given. If a newbie posts something that is trite, redundant, or just plain stupid, that poster is generally ignored or flamed. But I have never noticed a newbie poster get ignored when he/she has something good to say and says it well.

For example, take Live. I remember his first post. It was great, and everyone in that thread praised him for having an excellent first post. The reality is this. Most members of this BBS, whether they turn into good posters or not, start out poorly, and get better with time and experience. I certainly know that I was no exception. As was my point previously, I feel this is just as true in many real life situations as it is here.
