I've met a bunch in my many years on this earth including: Jim Kelly (when he was still with the Gamblers) Bum Phillips (met him at a recycling center with him pulling a horse trailer full of empty beer cans) Earl Campbell (at UT) D'von Dudley and Michael Cole after a RAW here in town Oliver North (twice actually) George H. W. Bush Hootie and the Blowfish (just before they hit it big back in '94) Mike Munchak Gary Kubiak Craig Reynolds (deacon over at Second Baptist) Phil Archer Jackie Sherrill (when he was still coach at A&M) David Klingler Hakeem and Afis Olajuwon (used to have a place in my old townhouse complex) Clyde Drexler Rudy T (when he was busted for drunk driving he was sitting in our briefing room with Larry Smith) Krista Marino (from Channel 2) Bucky Richardson
Gene Hackman Teri Garr Burgess Meredith The three of them filmed a movie called Full Moon in Blue Water at a old bar in Seabrook called Chuck's Castaways. I was living in Seabrook at the time and worked at the local Kroger store. Hackman and Meredith came in frequently, and I also saw them at Maribelle's (I know a lot of you old timer's from the area remember Maribelle's). They were friendly and nice to everyone. Garr was a b****.
George HW Bush George W Bush Jacob Lawrence Edward Albee I also knew Barrett Robbins. He was always a loser. My wife went to HS with Jim Parsons, Batman. We saw Garden State last night. She, of course, felt he was under-utilized. Does Ron Stone count (the tv personality, not the football player)? He is a friend.
I know Albee too. Your wife went to school with Jim? That means she also went to school with Greg Stanley and Sarah Mitchell (mmm... Sarah Mitchell...). Tell her to check out Judging Amy if she can stand it. He's Amy's new assistant. He's also under an exclusive contract with CBS for the next year. They might be developing a series around him. And he's got a few more movies coming out soon.
In Houston, he held a speech together with Richard Gere at TSU, I came too late to hear his speech, but waited outside and he came by and shook hands (I think)...already 9 years ago.
Not the most personable guy, I found. Your wife went to school with Jim? That means she also went to school with Greg Stanley and Sarah Mitchell (mmm... Sarah Mitchell...). I asked and you are correct. She she hung out with them all for a period, but they weren't her main group, apparently. She has always said Jim was a great physical comedian, though.
Personable? No, I wouldn't say so. He's a parody of himself that way. I directed Jim and Greg and Sarah a lot back in the day. If your wife's interested in an update, Greg runs the theater department at Klein HS now. Sarah's a corporate headhunter in SF, CA and acts with a comedy group. I directed Jim in a showcase production in NY a little over a year ago and we're in steady touch. Email your wife's name to me if you want and I'll tell him hi for her.
I've posted this a few years back, but yeaaaah man. Me, my dad and Jim Brown played 18 holes in Miami one Thanksgiving day.
Quite a few Nobel Prize winners in the sciences (but I guess that's considered famous only among the scientific community) and literature (Oe Kenzaburo, Toni Morrison) Henry Kissinger - a group of us had an interesting dinner discussion with him and his wife. I know he is not the most popular person out there, but I thought what he had to say was quite interesting. Joyce Carol Oates - author, another dinner discusson with her and a few others but I forget... Not that many athletes or other celebrities really. I guess it has been mostly academic types... Although I would love to have a sit down chat with Bono to see what makes him tick especially concerning all these world issues that he has been taking on.
I've met: Spike Lee (Tulane) Soleil Moon Frye (aka punky brewster) (Tulane) Scarface (TOC Bar) Chuck D (Tulane) Robert Horry (Shephard Plaza 1996) Carl Lewis (Roxy) Charles Barkley (Roxy) Jose Lima (Sam's Boat) Eddie George (Roxy) Heather Matarazzo (Bar in NYC) Stromile Swift (Bourbon Street) P.J. Brown (Miami Airport) Ginger Lynn, Chloe, Belladonna, Stephanie Swift (strip clubs) Matt Maloney (Bronx Bar) Rudy T (Bought me a shot of Tequila) I actually talked to these people or shook their hand. There are many more that I've just seen up close and said nothing like: Rose McGowan, Alicia Keys, Carrot Top, Jenny McCarthy, Chris Webber, Kelly Rowland, Shaq, Jaleel White, Edgerrin James, Vanessa Williams, Nicolas Cage.
95 Rockets - band played championship party after the game 96 and 00 Rockets - Christmas Parties Elie used to always hang at Yaga's Galveston seemed like. Willie Nelson, Kid Rock, Beyonce, Toby Keith - at SuperBowl when I played with Mango Punch at Halftime I met Liza Minelli in Chita (sp?) Rivera's dressing room after a Broadway show they were in called The Rink - She was whacked out on sumthin'. Met Various members of The Gap Band, The Average White band, and Tower of Power when my band opened for them. Hung out with Warren Moon for a bit during some MTV summer event in the early 90's. Briefly met Another Brother. and, of course, the most famous dude I know is Jason Alexander, but he is family so not sure if that counts.
I spent a drunken evening with John Entwhistle at the Ritz in 1995, I should post that story someday. After nine Cognacs, he was giving serious Who dirt. I have pics somewhere.
