Rodman. Would the Pistons have won five championships without him? Forget all the antics, remember how he played when he really played. Too bad he went nuts and became a third-rate sideshow. He was a really great player.
I voted for Rodman but, it would be a tough call if "The Chief" Robert Parish was on the list. He just did it consistently for so long.
I want to change my vote to Robert Horry. Mark Stein has an article on ESPN.com about Horry being the greatest role player ever. Robert Horry Link
I have a hard time voting for "The best player who really isn't good enough to be good" award. It sort of sounds like the "Sportmanship" trophy.
I think you just summed up why I feel Robert Horry fits the bill. For that same justification is why Rodman is NOT a role player. He was a central figure and a big peice to his teams. Somebody else said it well, for the same reason Ben Wallace isn't a role player is what I'd say about Rodman.
For those voting Dennis Rodman... the Worm and Big Shot Rob met once in the playoffs, in the 95 Rockets-Spurs series. They were matched up directly against one another. And all I remember is Rodman melting down and Bobby hitting shot after shot because Rodman chose to ignore him on the perimeter so he could chase down rebounds inside.
