I'd take Wilcox for his inside presence too. Good rebounding skils as well and very physically gifted. His own coach said he had a mental block because with his physicality, he should be an all-star.
Maybe not an All-Star but he has the ability to be very solid player in the leauge with avg. about double-double per game (10PPG, 10RPG)
Well that is what he is. His coach said he has so much more potential that he just doesn't play up to.
chance of getting wilcox is just as slim as getting lewis.. the sonics will ask for the world for wilcox, especially they just lost lewis... i'll throw in another name, he's an unrestricted FA, we went after him after he won the ROY many many years ago, and is much cheaper than wilcox and darko: MARC JACKSON!! he did played quite decent against the rockets last yr and he should be ok for another couple of seasons.
He doesn't have good rebounding skills. He averaged what last year? 7.7 rebounds per game? I'd hardly call that a good rebounder. Let's be real. The reason people around here place so much value on Wilcox is because of that 20/20 game he dropped on the Rockets in April 06. Yeah, well Kelvin Cato had an amazing pre-season game once too. It never resulted in him being a good player. Wilcox has size, sure. He's physically gifted, sure - but I'd also like you to explain to me why a 6'10 240 lbs athlete is such a horrible shot blocker and mediocre rebounder. Did I mention he's grossly over-paid? Yeah. I'll pass.
I guess that's not terrible. I was thinking he got a deal similar to Nene. Still, I wouldn't want him. I think he'd be a terrible fit next to Yao.
Marc Jackson never won the ROY. Unless you're talking about Mark Jackson who's working for ESPN right now.
Morey wants a veteran power forward. I think we'll end up signing either Joe Smith or PJ Brown through free agency. Then when preseason and regular season starts Morey will see which guards beat out who, most likely Luther Head, Kirk Snyder, or Rafer Alston. Then through trade, we will start to look at serious prospects at the starting power forward position. I think this is Morey's attitude going into the offseason. He probably won't want to completely change the makeup of the team all at once in one offseason. With the arrival of him and Rick Adelman, he should allow time for this team adjust to these few major changes. This will also allow guys like Snyder and Alston to get a fresh start and try to reestablish themselves on the team. We first have to see how the core players from last year respond under Adelman, and then from there we can start to seriously tweak the roster. Morey was quoted to have said something like, "I'm preparing this team not for November, but for next April when the NBA playoffs start." (not an accurate quote)
he actually gets around $8 million per year ($24 million for 3 years) according to Patricia's basketball site.
BINGO. Very productive offseason if this is done. I personally can't wait to see what the Rockets can do as far as trades.
Trade Battier for Wilcox Sign Matt Barnes for the MLE Joe Smith, PJ Brown, or Jamal Magloire for the LLE Package up Sura's contract for something soon, geez
That's a very nice scenario as well. This is more realistic than the one I came up with that is similar to this...trade Battier/Head for Haslem, sign Nocioni to the full MLE. LLE goes to quality depth. Of course, that's second to my obvious opinion of Amir Johnson. The Rockets need to sign Amir Johnson (4.5-5 million)on July 11th in order to see as soon as possible if the Pistons would match. If they're going to "wait and see" if there are any bargains at the end of free agency, they might as well see if Detroit would match a tender offer to Amir. If they do, then they can wait and see all they want. The PG and Center crop in next year's draft is going to be crazy
I just saw this about Amir Johnson in Fran's 7/3/07 Blog: [Amir Johnson, according to virtually all scouts and experts, is at least one or two years away from being a contributor as part of a regular rotation, especially on a winning team. He would be a longshot project for the future. Davis and Fazekas are ahead of him in terms of development, but neither has the upside of Johnson. --Fran]
