I would definitely consider S Williams from Boston College. It is a risk considering the history but it is possibly a high reward risk. He has all the tools minus a jump shot (which could be worse). He is from Houston. He will have a support system already established. Just something I would consider.
Of course he can. he can rebound he can block and he can knock down 3s. He can also guard Kobe or Tracy but he isn't the right option for Houston
I would have to go with Antoine Walker also.. That dude is a damn bum at least Erick can get some rebounds... But man Walker is a looser in my eyes..
I think the best PF for Rockets are the ones that could rebound, atheletic and shoot the three. So only Shawn Marion and Lamar Odom would fit that bill, but money wise, it's not that realistic... Is there any poor man's Marion/Odom available? If yes, grab them
I mean...We have two PF's Hayes/Novak But we probably need one more PF If we could get Rashard Lewis...He's 6-10, He could play SF/PF idk...I really don't think we need a big scoring PF somebody like Kurt Thomas
We already have great scorers: Mac Grady and Ming. We have average scorers who can make the job if needed: Battier, James and Head. Then, we don't need a big scorer for the PF position but a good rebounder and defensive player. Let's make a run at Paul Millsap.
I would personally like the Rockets to trade up to get Josh McRoberts from Duke, a solid rebounder and one of the more underrated PFs in the draft... This one year would be a good adjustment period easing him into the NBA while integrating Adelman's style into our team.
I agree, we don't need any big time scorer to take away shots at the PF position, especially not at the cost of our two big stars.. About the 2nd part though, we did have a defensive PF in Hayes last season, even though he is undersized, he is pretty efficient on the defensive end. The problem was, Hayes doesn't have an offensive side, so ppl can just neglect him to double/triple tracy and yao.. If we can get an defensive PF who can also score inside and outside, then other teams would have to think twice before they double yao/tmac...
Here's a list of what a package of "Sura + Lucas + Novak/Head/Snyder" could potentially bring in. Teams that can make moves to stay under LT: Cavs (make salary space for Varejao) Gooden Marshall GSW (make salary space for Barnes & Pietrus) Harrington Nets (make make salary space for Moore) Collins LT paying teams: Denver (minimise LT) Najera Evans Kleiza Suns (minimise LT, Sarver wants to cut 8M) Thomas Teams dumping certain players: Heat Walker (on the trading block) Indiana (possibly blowing team up) Murphy Dunleavy Lakers Brown (on the trading block) I'm not excited at any of the above players as Rockets but they are realistic trade targets.
Could Shane be the catalyst for aquiring AK47. There are rumors about the possibility that AK47 might not be the ideal fit in Utah anymore since Boozer is the starting Power Forward and AK47 is a natural 4 and not a natural 3. A trade of Shane who is a natural 3 for AK47 who is a natural 4 might actually be ideal for both teams. Shane Battier, Rafer Alston and Reed or Lucas should work salary cap wise for AK47. It would work for Utah: PG Williams SG Fisher SF Battier PF Boozer C Oker Since Boozer and Shane were teammates in college Boozer might be a huge advocate of this trade.
I hope I could be wrong, but I don't see GSW trade Harrington to us with that offering... Maybe Sura+VSpan+26th pick... Even that I don't think they would do that.
Rather than looking for a star player from another team or a has been, we should be looking for backups that seem to be ready to explode on the scene. A player like Amir Johnson fits that role. However, I'd like to throw out another name. JAMAL SAMPSON Playing behind players like Nene, Camby, Kenyon Martin, Reggie Evans, & Najera, didn't leave a lot of minutes for Sampson to show his skills. Here's the link to his game by game stats. If you'll look at the 5 games where he got double digit minutes, he put up some pretty impressive rebounding numbers & when he took shots, he was very effective. Although, he was playing center in all of those games. Now, I don't know what his range is on his shot, but at 6'11" 235lbs. & only 24 years old, he'd be worth a long look as a PF. He strikes me as someone that might fit in Morey's formula. A player like him that can play the 4/5 might allow us to let Mutombo go & use the extra roster spot for another player. Any thoughts? Has anyone watched him actually play?
Jamaal Sampson? bit of a reach wouldnt you reckon? I say we should put a package around Battier and throw it @ the Blazers for Randolph, or even Aldridge. They are stacked with bigs.
