McGrady USED to be a closer. You can't depend on a 38% shooter to close out a game for you. He is not a go to player anymore. It is not about creating your own shot, it is about ball movement and getting people open. I would say our new closer needs to be our TEAM not one individual.
He was playing on a knee that required microfracture surgery. If he goes to Phoenix, that miracle medical staff will have us looking like idiots and making T-mac a lot of money after this season.
We need a wing player that can dribble/drive/finish/pass/decent D and make a shot. Wafer unfortunately can't dribble. Watching him bring the ball up against VJJ was scary. The only person who can handle the rock and pass now is brooks. No one else is competent enough.
So you think he is going to come back from this microfracture surgery and somehow become a 45% shooter?? Have you not seen him trend downward since he became a rocket? First it was his back and now his knee.....I mean how many excuses can you come up with for a player before you finally realize he is just not that good anymore. Yes his injuries have contributed to his deterioration as a player, I don't dispute that but his days as a "closer" or "superstar" are gone. Very young players such as Amare come back from microfracture and are still able to be somewhat of the player they used to be. Guys with over 10 years in the leage do not.
Tracy isnt even a closer anymore, so I dont think this question matters. If he was a closer, he would have made it out of the first round by now.
How many times has TMac led the Rockets (or any team) out of the first round when healthy? This year, he goes down with an injury and the Rockets take the eventual champions to a 7 game series. He's a cancer to the team. Remember early last season when TMac would sit out back-to-back games or decide game-time if he would suit up. He disrupted the team's chemistry and had a bad influence on his teammates, namely Artest. He's had a terrible history of injuries and it's only going to get worse as he gets older. And who cares if some other team is foolish enough to overpay TMac?
I think we can all agree that all people here on the board doesnt know tracy as well as morey knows him, if morey thinks tracy got something left, then we should believe him. i mean who are we to say, we are not even close to tracy, we only see the thing he did on the court thats it, maybe he does have a heart issue like many others said he does, but we still have to believe our own GM
Tmac has never really been much of a closer for us so I don't see the point of this thread, imho. He has had a miracle comeback win against the Spurs but nothing out of the ordinary besides that.
This makes me shudder the most. I can already see it now - Ron Artest trying to close out the game by driving into three defenders, putting his head down, and just throwing up a shot.
How good of a "closer" McGrady was anyway? He has played more than ten years but has never won a first round series (how many times do you have to remind people about this?).
I'm not going to dispute that we need a "closer" even though I think that's completely the wrong question to ask. McGrady, though, is not a closer and has never been a closer when dressed in a Rockets uniform. The only thing that is closed is the door on TMac's career.
Oh yeah, I'm sure they'll love it when Tmac's jacking up a bunch of poor jump shots with guys in his face and watching him shy away from going to the basket because he doesn't like contact. They'll love that. Tmac's career as a superstar is over.
