i guess my real answers would be wilt and sabonis.

wilt to see if he was as good as everyone says he was or only as good as i think he was and partly just to see how bad/good the competition was at the time.

sabonis to see if he was the running, flying magician people say he was.

Yep. Hard to belive that he was drafted in 1985! We missed 9 great years; probably his best years! :( He would have been one hell of a center.

    Here's some cool vids:

I watched 'em all in their prime. Different kinds of players, of course. Wilt was magnificent, can you imagine 100 points in one game and averaging 50 points per game for the season. That was real too!! Russell was wonderful, but he didn't his rep against Wilt ( and vice versa ). Dr. J and Pistol Pete were definately fun to watch. Havlicek was no slouch either. The list goes on and on.

I think that the players of today are bigger, stronger, and quicker than those of yesterday as a whole. But there were aberations. Wilt was 7'2" and 275-300 lbs and could move like Kevin Garnet. A lot of authoratative people thought he was the strongest man to ever play basketball. A match-up between Wilt and Shaq would be something to see!!

    For me :

    Wilt
    Oscar Robertson
Pistol Pete (thanks for reminding me of this one)
    Earl Manigault (ditto the above)
    Oscar Shmidt

For those of you that didn't watch Magic Johnson play much, especially in his absolute prime - I'm telling you, he should be on your list. The greatest passer that I have ever seen - period (which is one reason I want to see Oscar Robertson play). Magic was also on one of the greatest fast breaking teams ever. He's definitely one of the 2 or 3 best players of the last 20-25 years.

Some of us are old enough to have seen most of these younger guys in their prime.

I would like to have seen some of the following guys who never got to see their prime due to injuries or drugs:

    Bill Walton
    Ralph Sampson
    Danny Manning
    John Lucas
    Roy Tarpley

Well considering that I'm a young'un I would have loved to see the Magic and Bird battles in the '80s. As is, my very first basketball memories was of Pistons winning their 2nd championship, and the first Finals series that I watch religiously was Lakers/Bulls, with Jordan's first ring.

Definately Oscar Robinson. My second choice would be Sabonis.

I think from watching film Dr. J is more of a Tracy McGrady type, and I think David Thompson was more Michael Jordan before Michael Jordan. But that's just my opinion.

    My list would be

    Pistol Pete
    David Thompson
    Oscar Robertson
    Wilt
    Sabonis

and if I had to choose one, it would be Sabonis because I've heard several American Basketball people say he would have been maybe the greatest ever. And also, from what I saw what he could in the few good moments he had with the Blazers I almost believe them.

On a side note, my Dad is 68 and he has seen a lot of guys on this list, one being Oscar Robertson play against UofH. According to him, he is the guy that you probably would have wanted to see the most.

Jordan - I was too young to think about turning on his games, and didn't realize his greatness when I did see him.
    Olajuwon - Same
