Suras having a good year, but ets not kid ourselves. The most irreplaceable people on the Rox are Mac and Yao. People always tend to try to find some underdog for these awards when the answer is smakcing them around in the face.

I gotta say Sura, MVP. We beat Orlando minus T-Mac. But who was guarding Stevie? Mutombo would think that if Yao were out for some time, he could step in, but he couldn't produce as much with 48 min. I think this is Sura's team now. He sets the tempo for the Rox.

    Sura, All-Star game 2006!

exactly, it's like when this poll was done last year and jj was getting the most votes for a while. hell, he may have won. if you're picking anyone other than yao or tmac (or yao and francis last year), then you're wrong.

Well, there's a symbolic MVP (game by game). And then their the real MVPs.

Game MVP's awards are awarded in Finals. Every once in a while you'll have a player that gets game MVP that is not one of the main stars (like Joe Dumars over Isiah/Laimbeer - Or Chauncy Billups over Rasheed or Ben Wallace).

Chauncy's finals MVP performance catapulted his name into the "star" catagory. Before that he was considered a good player. Same with Duncan before he won his 2nd ring. He was considered "good," but never THE BEST in the league. Knocking off Shaq/Kobe Laker has a lot to do with his legacy.

Anways...if we make it to the Finals, you might have a Finals game MVP's named Sura or Barry. Who knows? Maybe even Deke. All it takes is 4-5 blocks at the right time in a game 7 to get that! :)

Sometimes role players can really step it up when it counts: Kenny Smith in 1995 Game 1 Final vs Orlando. Or Sam Cassell in game 2 of the same series. Or Vernon Maxwell in game 3 of the 1994 match-up vs the Suns.

Those were "MVP" performances. But they aren't MVP players for the whole year. Not like our main men. Most of the time the MOST VALUABLE performances will be TMac and Yao.

So, it all depends on how you define MVP: game by game. Or the whole year.

I'm talking about overall for the games we've had. Back then we had dream as our team's mvp. Hakeem was the MAN on the court for our team during the championship years. Who has been THE MAN for our team this year? We have some people saying it is Yao because we saw how T-mac played without a big man last year and the end product was c#$p. Now if Tmac got injured, do we honestly think that Yao could carry the load? Do some of you honestly think bobby sura is this year's mvp for our team? I believe he is the x-factor but that's as much credit i'll give him. I'm asking which player is the most reponsible for this season's accomplishments?

    tycoonchip,

I understand what you are saying. But it's not that simple. Just look at Akeem's Rockets in the late 80's (1988-90 - A.S.: After Sampson). He didn't do too well. It wasn't until he got better talent around him.

The same goes for Jordan. He had some bad years, even thought statistically he was great. TMac had a lot of mediocre seasons before this one; trying to carry his team (Magic) alone.

TMac is THE MAN, in terms of over-all responsibility. That should be clear. As far as "most reponsible for this season's accomplishments." That goes to the TEAM (emphasis: seasons accomplishments).

There is no *one player* that is the *single cause* of *ALL* of our success. It's a collective effort.

If you want a list of responsibility from top to bottom is might look like this...

    TMac
    Yao
    Sura
    Barry
    Howard
    Deke
    Padgett
    Westey

I like Wesley. He is doing exactly what he can to the team. his last 5 game 3 point shot percent is 75%. It make a lot of trouble to other teams. What they can do, double Yao or T-mac? then you are not defending a 75% 3 point shoot,. His defennce is very good too. Plus Sura make some noise to penetrate and layup. It's very difficulty to defend if 3 of 5 Rocket starters play their normal level at each given night..

In agreement-TMac is no doubt the man-complemented by the big man Yao. This collective effort will win games and series - each contributing their part for a balanced attack and defense. It is very difficult to defeat a group with a balanced scoring attack and coordinated defense. A superstar can be beaten by a team every time. Recall Hakeem pre- 1989-no help and Jordan pre 1990.

It's hard to say who's the MVP?

I would say co-MVP shared by TMac and Yao. They're the two we can count on day in and day out. Both guys work hard and play unselfish team game.
