Gene Peterson? THE voice of the Houston Rockets?

Watch it buddy. At least be thankful he gave us a "HOW SWEET IT IS!" at the end of the event.

Gene Peterson was there? When we were there (noon - 2:30) the announcers were the 2 guys who do the spanish Rockets broadcasts... Did Gene Peterson do the announcing later in the day?

Did anyone catch the last band? Was it reggae?

Yeah...Jamaican dudes...there were like 10 people in the front into it....but hilarious...two fat women too...the music was actually kinda decent but no one was into it. They kinda looked stupid jumping up and down and yelling and saying Houston Texas and making dumb jokes about Elvis is not in the building...

What other bands were there before 2:30?

there was country music, Cooder Graw of 'Llano Estacado' fame (the Ford or Dodge commercial) and mexican/tejano music star, Flaco Jiminez and his amazing accordian.

I totally forgot about the reggae band and I missed Gene... dangit. :(

    rH,

I got there really late, around 4:30 or so, and now that I think about it, maybe it wasn't Gene Petersen (sp?) doing the play-by-play for the Hot Shot contest (I can't remember, I was walking around the concourse/luxury suites not paying too much attention to the contest. My bad, SLA), but after the contest Gene did take centrecourt and gave a little Rockets promotional speech, punctuated by his patented "HOW SWEET IT IS!"

    That much I do remember.

Nope, that was Bill Worrell (TV announcer) and was joined by Calvin Murphy about 20 minutes later.

Can anyone host some rather large video files? I am going to pull them off the camera tomorrow during football, but I got the whole arena, some of the country band, one of the chinese dragon performances, one of the Comets male dancers performances, and the Power Dancers routines. I walked through both levels of the suites and got video of them, and I went up the HUGE escalator into the nosebleeds.

I suspect that it will be 30-50 MB.

rockHEAD, outstanding pictures. I was late to get to my flight, so I just managed to drive by, but I did not have time to go in - took a few pictures while driving by, but cannot upload them - since I was so late, my luggage (including the usb cradle for my camera) did not make it to Chicago :(.

I am such an idiot for procrastinating and not making it in time to get inside!!!

But I get a good impression from your reports and pictures, so thanks! :)

That is kind of messed up. I thought they would have just stuck a new XXXXXXXXXL Rockets shirt with the new logo on him or something. Oh well, all the other things make up for that.

Thanks for all the pics you guys. I really appreciate it. Not being in Houston makes it hard to see these things, but with all the pics, I feel like I didn't miss anything. I can basically feel the arena's persona....its red persona. ;)

The arena is all around great.

Floor is kind of plain in my opinion. Way too much red and I think it would have looked a lot more distinct with third color.

And the red looks like a hot pink, it isn't a deep enough red.

I hate to say it guys but were gonna be rooting for the pink team. :(

I think that was Bill and Calvin at the end of the Hot Shot event (heard it on the PA but wasn't paying much attention), but it was definitely Gene Peterson at the end of the day's events, around 5:00. It was the first time I ever saw what Gene looks like (on the centercourt bigscreen during his Rockets plug).

Unless Calvin is now somehow white, or Bill grew a thick gray moustache, and either started saying How Sweet It Is (I already recognized his voice, but this was the clincher), then that most certainly had to be Gene-O.
