I'm thinking Vikings, but that's just me...I would love for him to stay in Texas, but that won't happen...I still feel he's a 2nd or 3rd rounder for sure... Battle was always, IMO, a bad ass...Big and strong and feel he can play on the next level...
I can see Kolb with St Louis type of offense. It's almost a run-n-shoot style offense and he does have that Kurt Warner quick release but w/ mobility, which is probably why Mike Martz in Detroit likes him. Is Vincent Marshall the next Ernest Givins or Drew Hill ? Short speedster with great hands.
Kolb will still be there for the Texans 4th round pick and they will pass on him. They will rightfuly say they have more pressing needs, but the real reason is to not create a quarterback controversy where fans cry for the hometown boy ala Bucky Richardson every time our new QB makes a mistake. Some say it's ancient history, but I guarantee you the ghosts of UH's Ware/Klingler past will haunt Kolbs draft position. He might slip to the 5th round. Personaly, I love the guy.
Battle could be a 3rd down back for somebody. I don't think Marshall is gonna be a feature reciever at the next level, but he could probably play on Sunday. Ash might make the best pro on the roster...he looks like a beast in the short time I saw him.
My problem is with the amount of excess media given to this kid. Trying to hype him into the 1st round? Maye you think he'll go 1at round because the local paper said so. I kept hearing all year long. Stanton was the #3 QB in this class and it's a bad one. Reporters should report the news not make it. And they're trying to make a huge story out of Kolb. Yes, it's off season and all writers can do is talk about the draft, i understand that. But The Houston Chronicle represents a very large city. They should be fair and balanced. And not fair and balanced reporting like FOX News claims to do. I can't find any links about Kolb being scouted as a 1st round pick, nor second, or even third. Can you please provide me with them and the teams who have said to be interested in him? If not the GM's you claimed, at least some fan blog posts raving about Kolb. The reason is because there are better QB's ahead of him not named Quinn and Russell. And this is considered a bad QB class! So let's see where your wonder kid is 3 years from now? Will he be with Dave Ragone next year? You won't even remember Kolb's name or know where he is 3 years from know. Tell me who he's starting for in 3 years and i promise to buy you tickets to watch him play. You can take Richard Justice with you or whoever keeps pumping out the Kolb articles. But not if he's still most likely holding a clipboard and spending his summers in Europe. I wish UH was a major competitive school, but Kolbs's upside isn't even as good as a Florida wide receiver taken in the 1st round. RG
Quit rocking the boat even more guys. The Chronicle and another member, maybe even two, think Kolb is a 1st rounder!
You act like only UH fans or the Chronicle gives Kolb praise. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=jm-mockdraft032207&prov=yhoo&type=lgns There is a mock draft from yahoo projecting him to go in the 2nd round. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/sports/4657932.html There are comments by Tennessee's coordinator of college scouting C.O. Brocato and Jerry Rhome- who's coached many great NFL quarterbacks, and is well respected. NFL scouts went to the Yeoman Field House for the University of Houston's pro day on Friday to see highly touted quarterback Kevin Kolb, but they left talking about underrated running back Jackie Battle. Kolb, who's expected to be a second-round pick in next month's draft, put on a good show, but Battle brought down the house. "That was one of the greatest workouts I've ever seen," said Tennessee's coordinator of college scouting C.O. Brocato. Battle is 6-2, 238. Brocato timed him in the 40-yard dash in 4.44 and 4.43. "Some had him in the 4.3s," Brocato said. "He put on a fantastic show. He made himself a lot of money. He went from a player going to be drafted in the fifth through seventh rounds to a first-day pick. It was just a fabulous workout." Battle showed outstanding size and incredible speed. He excelled in every drill. He caught the ball extremely well. "I mean, that kid's stock shot way up," Brocato said. "If he'd been able to do that at the combine where every coach and general manager was, he'd be a first-round pick. He showed us everything we wanted to see today." Kolb was the only Cougar invited to attend the Indianapolis scouting combine. Battle and receiver Vincent Marshall, who also had a terrific performance Friday, weren't invited. "I wish I would have been invited to the combine," Battle said, "but I wasn't, so I focused all my energy on our pro day. I knew what I'm capable of doing. I've just been waiting for a chance to show it. "I'm very happy with what I did. I don't know where I'll be drafted or how much it'll be worth, but I'm real excited about today. I was very confident coming in, and I'm very confident going out. Now we'll have to wait and see what happens." Kolb, who participated in the Senior Bowl and worked out at the combine, had his workout Friday orchestrated by Jerry Rhome. Rhome has been tutoring Kolb and preparing him for the draft. "On a scale of one to 10, I'd give Kevin a nine," Rhome said. "When he missed a throw, he came back even stronger. "I really like this kid. He's worked very hard to get to this point. I'm excited to see where he's going to be drafted." Kolb and his teammates worked out in front of representatives of every team as well as family members, friends, media and a lot of fans. "It was just like a game in that I came out a little juiced up, I was a little off with some of my throws early, but then I got into a rhythm and made the throws I needed to," Kolb said. "I'm very happy with what I did today. I wanted to show my arm strength. I wanted to take something off my throws. I was happy with my touch. I wasn't perfect, of course, but overall, I'm really happy. "And I'm really happy with what my guys did, too. This was an opportunity for us to showcase what we could do — why we were conference champions. I want to thank coach (Art) Briles and my teammates for helping me get to this point. I'm very grateful. I couldn't have done it without them." The scouts weren't happy that Kolb missed the weigh-in because he was having breakfast with a Dolphins coach. New England and Cleveland also have shown interest in Kolb, who has visits the first week of April lined up with Baltimore and Philadelphia. "I haven't changed my opinion of him; I think he's going in the second round," Brocato said. "He threw the ball well today, but I thought he was up and down on his accuracy when he rolled out. He really threw the deep ball well." So yeah i'll trust the opinions of respected scouts and a great quarterback coach over someone who thinks he's "overrated" without much else to back it up. After Battle's great workout I wonder how high he can go now.
Stupid Rednecks who hated Moon because he was black called for the local neck from A&M. As far as Kolb goes he needs to be in the right system to have success I would love to draft him if he is there in the 4th and let him sit for three years like our current qb
Ghosts? That was nearly 20 years ago. Totally different systems, different coaches, different QB's. Kolb will not "slip" into the fifth found.
You should just go out and and buy his jersey for every team right now. We don't we're he'll land yet, but at least you'll have extras for every time he gets cut or traded to another team. He sure is taking this thing seriously by missing a weigh in so he can load up on breakfast instead. So far, i keep hearing about his strong arm. Well, how many College and NFL QB's don't have strong arms? It means nothing without accuracy, which he hasn't shown too good in front of the scouts.................... At least until he got into his "rhythm." Something you have to always be in when playing in the pros holding a clip board on the sideline. There's no jime to get in a groove. And once again, i see you found plenty of information about him from the Houstonchronicle.com. The paper that is hyping him up more than Vince Young was. Tell me, do you articles for the Chron on the side? Or do you just have a wager on when he gets picked? I've still yet to hear his name once on ESPN, or any affiliate not biased towards Houston. Why is this, when he's so darn good in such a weak crop of quartebacks to come out? I'll still say he's a possible 4th rounder at best. Not a 1st day guy.
I hope the Texans can nab Battle. I liked what I saw from him and the 2 or 3 games I saw last season, and now this. He's got the size to be a great fullback, but the moves to be an awesome running back. That would be valuable in our offense.
What in the world do you have against Kolb? I'd probably miss a weigh-in as well if it meant having breakfast with an NFL coach. And I guess Yahoo is pimping Kolb too since they pick him to go in the second round?
I have absolutely nothing against the guy. In fact, i hope he becomes the next Tom Brady. I graduated from UH and would go out and buy some retro paraphernalia if he were to succeed somewhere. My only problem is that the Houston Chronicle is putting numerous video clips, interviews, and articles up on this guy everyday, all while saying he'll go in the 1st round. They're just crediting him way more than the great players, themselves. Better QB's like Simms who at least played in big games and kept us in the title hunt both years, went later than 1 or 2. Then comes Quinn, who couldn't win a big game for his life gets to go top 10. Kliff Kinsbury went 6th round and also had a canon for an arm, combined with better accuracy, an NFL physique, and just plain looked better, especially when beating UT practically by himself. I won't even get into the one national TV game Jamarcus Rusell played in that rocketed him up multiple rounds. Meanwhile, Houston Chronicle readers are too gullible that Kolb will go in the 1st round when most of their games aren't televised and are they are playing against other lousy teams and Kolb's name was not brought up all year for anything, leaving scouts wondering who is this guy?? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then i get blasted by a select few who do not believe what i say. I'm just trying to explain my reasoning because most people only believe what they read in the paper or hear in the news. I just hope when scouting Kolb, the scouts aren't just taking in all the Houston articles from the local chron as faith! Then Kolb will get paid and we can sign him in a few years for scraps if he improves as a back up and the Owner/GM the wants him then. There are just far better things Justice, Mcclaine, ect, can be doing than recycling old articles and drooling over this guy. I just think he's a product of the system like previous UH products were, (not just Andre Ware,) Texas Tech QB's who threw all sorts of insane deep passes and a very nice balanced OU team with players, and those are just s few Big 12 teams, we all know about Florida receivers history in the NFL. But Hey, Go Kolb and represent Houston like Vince is doing! I'm just saying what's a non biased opinion in an open forum. I'm done but you can keep trashing my view of Kolb not going too early the first day and starting for someone.
