Schaub is mentally weak and plays like a 12 year old girl . Romo just lacks killer instinct for an elite QB.
In 11 more starts, Romo has 11 more wins, 62 more TDs, 4000 more yards, and 5 more winning drives. In other words, for Schaub to have similar stats over an identical time period, over his next 11 games, he'd have to go 11-0, and average 5.5 TDs, and 360 yards per game. That doesn't consider that Romo has never had an elite running game or defense to back him up.
Romo's talent has been completely wasted on the Cowboys and will continue to be wasted as long as Jerry Jones is running the show. Jerry and company just cannot field a complete team. It's primarily the offensive line issues over the years and the defense. Romo has always had weapons at receiver and tight end. It's just not enough. It's a team sport and you have to have all areas of the team play at a high level with some consistency. That is not the Cowboys since the mid 90s. If the defense were great, then the offensive line or running game would be the weak area. If the offense is great, then the defense or special teams is the weak area. That's just the way it is. The best shot we had in a long time was in 2008 I think when we were 13-3. But, we blew that to the Giants in the post-season. The rest of the time...it's just been wasted season after wasted season dwindling away in mediocrity. Then, just to tick off the fan base even more, they go and drop 48 points on Denver only to lose by three. That pretty much sums up the Cowboys. They can play well at times and inconsistently...as in "you never know what you will get". They can win a big game here or there. But, for the most part, they just squander opportunity after opportunity. That is the only consistency. But, it's tough to win in the NFL...as Jerry has told us every season.
Playoffs can't be the only criteria unless you consider division, defense, weapons, running game, and o-line. Schaub has had the advantage in all those categories and has little to nothing to show for it.
Lets not talk about wins, because Romo hasn't really been getting it done in that area. Unless people think 8-8 is the new standard we should shoot for. Well if you want to be exact about it sure, but Schaub could throw for 180 ypg and still be similar to Romo. Wait...weren't you just saying that Schaub played a different type of game in that he's playing more conservative? So why don't you then consider that while you are considering whether Romo had a elite running game or defense to back them up? Wouldn't that then explain the lesser stats? That's not a excuse for a QB these days. Plenty of QBs get it done without running game or a defense. Hell Peyton did it in Indy for years now. Also the NFC East outside of the Giants have been a sorry overhyped division year to year. For all the flack Schaub gets he's actually beaten Manning before...
Not totally fair as Schaub's better statistic years have come when the Texans had no run game and the other year when they had a historically bad defense.
You're the one that listed win-loss record in your list of stats. Not really. Yes - Schaub puts up lesser stats because he's not asked to do as much. He's not asked to do as much because he's not capable of doing as much - if he were, they'd ask more of him and have a better offense. In Romo's 8 years, the Cowboys have ranked 7th or better in offense 4 times (2nd twice, 4th, and 7th). The Texans best ever showing was 8th, last year. That is, in half of Romo's years, the Cowboys have ranked higher than Schaub's best - even with his better running game.
Yep, in today's NFL if you don't have a run game then pass stats are actually inflated. It's a passing game, and guys like Manning, Brees, Rogers have thrived without run games and put up huge numbers. So it's not some huge success that a QB can get it done without a run game in todays game. And you're the one that just said he had 11 more wins...are we counting wins at all as a stat? It usually is counted when it comes to QB and Romo's win record is nothing spectacular... Yes really. In fact if you take his YPG for the Texans (more than just 180) he'd be even closer to Romo if he played on a similar level as he did the rest of his career. In Romo's 8 years the Cowboys have 1 playoff win...and when it comes to big regular season games? Well Romo tends to lose them more than win them. Yeah Matt Schaub is not capable of much but yet led the NFL in passing yards one year oh and is usually one of the best when it comes to pass % in the NFL top 5. They have that same reputation. Both wildly inconsistent in the clutch, will win you games and then lose you games...not sure why people think that he'd come here and win big games when it's something he's never done. Actually I take it back about Romo being inconsistent in clutch moments, it's actually pretty consistent. The Cowboys lose. I was laughing yesterday because I called it so early in the game and then on First Take SAS basically says what I always say about them "Give them time, they'll mess it up." and what Deion said "I'm just calling it how it is." and what it is is that Romo consistently fails to deliver in such situations.
I totally agree. Romo has maybe never had the talent around him that Schaub has. Romo's performance on Sunday was other worldly. Without the interception it was one amazing display of skill.
My best friend and I used to have this argument all the time in high school. Schaub has always been a system QB. Romo carries Dallas. Romo is way better. Give him a run game and a defense and he would do some serious work.
