I am not biased. I picked T-Mac. I have always picked T-Mac even before the 2003/2004 season. I have liked him over Kobe for over 2 years and I have not seen any reason to change my mind.
One interesting little fact i just realized about McGrady... His FGA per 48 minutes is 28. His teams winning percentage last season was just over 25%. For those of you who are VERY slow to catch on, that means his shots per game is higher than his team's winning percentage. That, ladies and gentlemen..is sad.
Man, I didn't really word that the right way. I meant to say like most of us are a bit biased or something to that extent. I know what your saying though since I too have picked T-Mac over Kobe long before he became a Rocket. With that post, I was just trying to say that even if we are all extremely biased, that doesn't explain why T-Mac still gets the nod over Kobe at boards that are not about one team, or even about the NBA at all.
Okay thanks for clarifying your point. Talent comparism between Kobe and Tmac is a wash. But TMac is longer and he scores with a little more fluidity. He makes the game look to easy. Kobe is a stud no doubt but Tracy put more fear in me whenever we played against the Orlando Magic.
Agree. We had the Cat that matched up with Kobe really well. In the first round we limited Kobe to 38.4% shooting. I don't think Rockets were afraid of Lakers in the last two years. McGrady always had his 30 pts game against us. Cat was too short to contain him.
I don't think you can make an accurate comparison just yet - you can't just pretend that Bryant didn't play with the most dominant force in the game - you can't pretend that Bryant played on a team where he wasn't the focus of the defense. Bryant may like to style himself an assassin, but he's also just destroyed his team so that he could elevate himself in the same off-season that McGrady has moved to a team he knows he won't be the big name on. I'm biased. Well, we're ALL biased - but I know I'm a homer so I was choosing McGrady anyway. Frankly, in five years, they'll talk about this year as the year when McGrady took the mantle of "Best Guard" from Bryant and buried the rest of the competition. Also, Mcgrady? Not a rapist. Low standards to be sure, but hey, you take what you can get.
My opinion of T-Mac, even before he was traded, has always been that he's easily a top 5 player that could be the best if he wanted to. By saying if he "wanted" to I mean by dominating on both ends of the court and ultimately winning. I know people have beaten the defense issue with him to death, but I think he will be fine in a new environment playing for a defensive coach like JVG. He has quick feet, quick hands, long arms...all the tools for a 6'8" swingman to be able to dominate defensively. He's already been established as the game's top scorer, well now he has to become one of the game's better defenders and along with playing beside Yao, will ultimately lead to winning. UNTIL then..... Kobe still has the bragging rights because of the 3 championships. I hate the guy more than anything and even though I still feel T-Mac is more talented, Kobe has had the better career and is the better player so far. But that will soon change.....
If you had asked this board before last year when T-Mac single-handedly carried his team to the playoffs 3 years in a row, you'd get yet another different response. Sure, some people on this board are biased towards T-Mac because he's on our team. But just the same, some people here are biased against him due to short term memories. I don't see why it's so ridiculous to think that T-Mac is better than Kobe. When has Kobe single-handedly taken his team anywhere but a losing record? While I don't hold it against him for having Shaq, nor do I hold it against T-Mac for not being able get a championships without Shaq.
TMac has explosive offense but not as good defender than Kobe. But JVG knows ahat to do on Tmac's game.
Right. If you asked this board right after Lakers 3-9 start in 2002, TMac might win by a landslide. Kobe publicly critisized his teammates too but they didn't respond. In fact, I don't think they respected Kobe that much. What if Shaq'd never returned that year, Would Kobe's strong will last a whole season?
Stop and think about the question posed. The questions reads: "Who's Better Kobe or McGrady?" Not Who is your favorite player? Kobe is not only better than T-Mac, but is the best all around player in the league!!! Of course T-Mac is one of the good guys this season, so many rockets fans will be showing him more love as they are on this poll.
Are you so sure? Even some General NBA boards show TMac a lot of love. He was considered equal to or better than Kobe a year ago. Right now Kobe's achievement, including his overated defense, has a lot to do with Shaq. Their talent difference, according to many, is even smaller than that between TD and KG. Ask this question a few seasons later I would have a better idea. By the way, "Best all round" is far from "better". Odom is better all-round than most NBA players. He's my favorite player but I won't rank him in top 20. Also, would you take KG before Duncan? KG is more talented and all-round, but many would still take Duncan.
While I agree Kobe's better than T-Mac, I gotta give "best all-around" player to KG. KG can play every position and is good at pretty much every phase of the game, while Kobe's limited to 2 guard, and maybe a little 3.
