    You cant teach height.

    Landry is still an undersized forward.

    Let's not get carried away. I like Hill a lot, but I don't see him ever becoming as good an offensive weapon as Carl Landry is. Landry's midrange jumper is nearly automatic, and he has a variety of go-to moves that allow him to score almost at will against any defender.

    I do agree that Hill is clearly a better defender and rebounder, and has something that Landry does not -- a lot of length. His offensive game will improve, but I don't see him becoming the type of go-to weapon that Landry is. There is a reason Landry had a godly PER right out of college -- he has always been a very efficient scorer.

    Come, on man.. You can't really compare the Rockets to the Kings. The Kings don't have the same kind of mentallity as the Rockets. The Rockets are known to never back down and to always keep fighting, like tonight. The Kings are known to be ball hogs and losers.. When you're on a losing team its hard to get up every game and play with that same passion and fire.

    I do think that if Landry came back he would gladly accept his role backing up Scola and he would return to his old form.

    Landry has reached his potential and what you see is what you get.

    A great spark off the bench in limited minutes to minimize his one-dimensional game. His rebounding and defensive limitations get exposed as a starter with extended minutes.

    Give me a younger Hill with better rebounding and defense and room for improvement.

    I don't care for Landry and I really never have. He's a good 1-way player off the bench but that's all. I wonder if all of these power forwards on the squad is not an accident though. Trading for Landry or Cousins could be the Rockets future, post-Yao. This is not a center's game anymore.

    I voted for Hill. Even though Landry might be better this second, the way Hill is going, he'll probably pass Landry up in a couple of weeks.

    At the end of his career Jordan Hill "should be" better. He has the ability to be a 15-20Pt/10 rebound a game type of player, where Landry is sort of limited in his abilities to impact the game as much as Jordan. Right now though, Carl Landry's skill set is far more advanced than Jordan's. Although Jordan's defense is superior to Landry's right now, Landry is still the better player now offensively.

    I'd have to go with Landry simply because he is much more versatile. Hill may have the strength but he is not as smooth with the ball as Landry. Also, from what I've seen so far, Landry wins on the hustle points. I remember Landry used to go after a lot of loose balls and attack the rim relentlessly. Landry does not show as much passion or hustle but I guess it's still too early to tell.

    Landry
    - Can put the ball on the floor
    - Attacks the basket better
    - Hustles a bit more
    - Better mid-range game
    - Quicker

    Hill
    - Can score better with back to the basket
    - Better rebounder
    - Can block shots better
    - Stronger

    I think with our current roster, Hill does fit better since Yao is injury prone. Although Landry is "better" imo, I wouldn't trade Hill for him.

    By the end of the season, this won't even be a debate.

    At 28 yrs old, Jordan Hill will have been the better contributor.

    The OP poll question asked "who is simply better". But then he went on to clarifiy the question in his post by asking who would contribute more to the Rockets.

    Translation: Who would be better for the Rockets?

    When Carl was here, it was his array of offensive moves in the 4th quarter that really set us apart from any other starless teams. He was the difference maker in games, but only in the end, when it counted most. Unfortunately, if he isn't doing that for the Kings this year, then we can't realistically believe that he would do it here for us now.

    There is the question of potential. Based on last year and this year's performances, it should be consensus that Landry has leveled off. That he will be no better than he was for us last year. However, Hill has seen a vast amount of progress since coming off the New York bench last year to playing the 4/5 when we need an amazing defensive stop against a big. But potential shouldn't be too big a factor in answering this question, as it asks who is better, not who will become better (for the rockets or otherwise).

    And so we have to look at the strengths of each player and the weaknesses of the team.

    Based on the responses in this thread and on our own experiences with these players I think it's safe to say that their strengths are as follows:

    Landry Strengths
    clutch 4th quarter scorer;
    high energy;
    infectious attitude

    Hill Strengths
    Developing low-post scorer;
    high energy;
    solid 1-on-1 post defense;
    solid rebounder

    In my opinion, the Rockets have a number of weaknesses, most of which have been discussed to death on this board since the start of the season.

    Rockets Needs (in no particular order)
    clutch 4th quarter scorer (to close out games and get us through scoring droughts, even though we are still roughly 6th in scoring this season);

    strong and consistent effort (to beat out more talented teams like last year, since we're playing without our two best players right now);

    low-post defense (we're roughly 20th in defense this season);

    rebounding (we're average, rebounding slightly fewer boards than our opponents now)

    Carl Landry is a scorer, especially off the bench. But scoring is probably the lowest priority of our current needs. We're averaging more scoring than 85% of the teams in the league, right now.

    Those scoring droughts we're having can be looked at two different ways. Either we're not hitting the shots or we're not keeping our opponents from hitting shots to go on runs. Because we're at the top of the league in scoring already, I'd guess that we're simply attrocious on defense this season (and the stats show this as well).

    So our greatest needs appear to be defense and defensive rebounding, both of which Jordan Hill is much better at than Carl Landry.

    Don't get me wrong, Landry earned his nickname, Mandry. He had as much heart and soul as anyone that's ever been on the Rockets. But that was last year with a team that had different needs from this year. I'll always remember how crucial he was to our team's success last season. By suggesting that Hill is better for this team now in no way causes me to forget Carl's contributions last season.

    But it's Jordan Hill that fills more of our biggest holes on this team right now.

    And yeah, he has a long way to go to become as consistent, as dependable as Landry was to us last season, but he's showing significant improvement and already does more to solve our problems today than Landry would if he were here.

    hill's hieght might be the one thing that make him more appealing. I loved Landry, but if Hill keeps improving this season, it might not be a question worth asking

    Get both in a Rockets Uniform and will be UNSTOPABLE with Yao/Brad/Hill/Scolandry! Most likely one of those big man will be injured and will have great insurance at our Big man position.

    Probably because he didn't want to leave Houston, and probably because Tyreke is the biggest ballhog I've ever seen, and probably because of all the drama inside the locker room, and probably because they are losing really bad, and probably because kings is a mess right now

    Totally different atmosphere than in when he Houston

    Hill is definitely not stronger than Landry. Landry was an and one freak back when he was with us.

    But I'll take Hill over Landry at this point.

    I really love the idea of having a second unit with Hill at center and Landry at the 4.
