Obviously VSpan has a lot of room to improve. But playing for JVG doesn't help either. The last thing you want is being a rookie and playing for JVG. Couple bad games and several turnovers will send you to his doghouse in no time.
So, you'd rather JVG give him more minutes so he can turn the ball over 8 times again and cost the Rockets games when it counts in order to be nice to him? He should be in the dog house with performance like these.
Definitely DEFINITELY Alston. Right now, it's just a stupid question. (No offense ) Spanoulis has a lot of potential, but he's a long way from realizing enough of it to be considered anywhere near Alston yet IMO.
obviously right now it's rafer. But i think the difference between them is that rafer thinks too much and plays too robotic sometimes. Vspan has better basketball instincts (when it's fast paced and things are broken down) but when things slow down, sometimes he doesnt know what to do.
Alston and Head are fine to cover the PG minutes. Tmac can even play point forward with Head if necc.
Interesting comments. I guess the V-Span zealots are chillin' out after this game and waiting for another day to strike back.
Just so everyone remembers Lebron and Kobe had 8 to 10 turnover type games when they were just coming into the league too. Right now Alston is better, but I think Span has more talent. And also fans need to stop all the "Alston and his shooting" talk. He could always shoot the ball. he just had a bad year last year shooting. And people are REALLY overboard here with using stats to say he could never shoot. See Alston could shoot the rock much better than Battier could EVER shoot it. But no some geek boy stats said otherwise.
Really thought there were more Vspan fans that were going to come out and say start Vspan from all the positive posts I've seen on the Garm. The question wasn't really posed for the present tense because as most have said RA is obviously better, it was meant to ask about his abilities in the future. I have plenty of questions about the kid, 1. He's been a pro for 2 years now, shouldn't he be better than he is now, especially his shooting. 2. No amount of tough love from JVG is going to make him as fast as Tony Parker or make him as big and athletic as Manu. 3. Look at him compared to a kid like Rajon Rondo of the Celts, Rondo has speed and a raw athleticism that allows him to do vicious throwdowns despite being only 6'1", I don't see that in Vspan. I thought it was just me that questioned his ability but when JB said it on the ESPN broadcast, I think he got it from some of the Rox coach's (JVG?). We'll see but I think the VOF's give him way too much credit.
It's like comparing apple and oranges. ones a established vet and the other is a rookie who has never played in the states prior till now. really unfair comparison.
I was sitting in class with my laptop and started laughing when I read that, and people turned around and looked at me funny But anyways, its not like vspan is gonna get much playing time this year, so we really won't know what he's all about until a couple of years of refining his skills. But I can't fault his hustle on D, it shows that he cares, unlike some players we had on last years team...
I won't base my opinion on stats...a good friend of mine was a huge Heat fan a few years ago and I caught more than a few Heat games when Rafer was playing with them in addition to a few games from last year in Houston. He's just inconsistent with his shot. He can light it up for sure, but he seems to be up and down with the confidence of his shot. You quote that "Alston could shoot the rock much better than Battier could EVER shoot it" has one very key word in it - could. I'll take a guy who consistently hits the midrange jumper over a guy who sometimes hits every one, and sometimes misses every one. No disrespect meant towards Rafer at all - he just needs to work harder at his shot consitency - whether that be mental or physical(or both)....
Verey good point here. Lebron in particular was a TO machine when he first entered the league. Actually, Ginobili was too but Popovich didn't give him much playing time during his turnover days...
Rafer hitting his open perimeter shots in preseason much better than before i think, is an excellent ball handler, very secure, and still averaged a decent amount of assists last season considering the 2 main scoring options were out of alot of last season with injuries. Rafer can also create his own shot with his ball handling skills and has knocked down a few Js so i think he is on his way for a consistent year, Rafer is 30 or so this year isnt he ? i think his in his prime, and will be a solid contributer to the rockets this year. V-span has some very nice abilities, his drive, instinct, passing ability and agressiveness but his outisde shot still is a bit awkward for me and of course his turnovers. Even if vpan works on his turnovers throughout this season, he will never oust rafer for starter PG, probably not next season either, his just so raw and needs alot of fine tuning, but tahts fine, his still young , few years of backup 3rd PG will do him good, right now his fighting for 3rd PG position with JL3, and eventually i believe he will make a better PG then Head and be 2nd backup PG and eventually take the starters PG position, but only when rafers past his prime, which should be in a few years when he starts hitting around 33ish. just my thoughts
