Buncha G-d morons thinking the coach actually matters in the NBA. Typical. Let's try to pry Spoelstra from Miami. They just won the championship afterall. I'm sure this team would be contenders under Spo or Scottie Brooks. I'd like to think this mentality was exclusive to Lin fans but unfortunately it's been prevalent for at least since the inception of this site, more likely forever.

I think you are confusing Jerry Sloan with Utah in general.

Calvin Murphy/Mario Elie (if new face)

    or

Chris Finch (already on the staff)

McHale might be good for player (big man) development but he doesn't know how to manage the game.

JVG/SVG: no way Morey brings in any of the Van Gundy brothers, that'd kill any chance Morey pursue DH12.

Sloan: actually a good fit despite the hate from some self-proclaimed diehard fans., a coach who runs p-n'-r sets, preaches defense, NBA Final experience, and repected all around in the league.

Phil Jackson: doubt he'd want to coach the youngest team in the league.

Calvin Murphy: talks good in broadcasting doesn't mean you automatically good at real coaching. we'll try to be a serious contender in the next 2 years, need an experienced coach. also, i really don't want a criminal to coach our youngsters.

Kelvin Sampson: Decent, not great. established relationship with the players. imo he's the one giving the Rockets its identity while McHale's absence. 2nd choice behind Sloan.

Mike Dunleavy: Decent, not great. there's a reason he's been bouncing around the league: Lakers/Bucks/Blazers/Clippers. not impressed.

Avery Johnson/Mike Brown/Mario Elie: are you kidding me?

Sloan or JVG. JVG can coach a high powered offense. He adjusts the offense to fit the personel. He's never had a really young guard oriented team to build around.

Sloan or Mike Budenholzer although I guess the latter has already turned us down.

I'm shocked at all of the Sloan talk. Several things:

    1. You guys do realize he is the man who established the culture in Utah that made us all despise them?
    2. You guys do realize he retired, in part, because he is 70 years old?

But back to point 1. This board has consistently flipped out at any mention of taking on Utah Jazz players since 1999, but you guys are cool with taking on the guy who taught those players how to be jazzholes?

    That's just weird.

For 20 years, Jerry Sloan coached the Jazz to be dirty as far as they could possibly get away with (or go unnoticed by the refs). No thank you to that goon. I don't care how much respect he gets or how much of a disciplinarian he is.

Of the qualified guys Finch would be my 1st option. Get a good defensive minded lead assistant coach. The guy from the Spurs is not coming here so that is out of question and jvg would slow the pace down and that wouldn't work with our current group of players. I want to see us play the pace we play and add defense and I think that I best way to go. Also I doubt Olajuwon would want to coach but would be nice or even Deke for his leadership and respect he would have. Personally I am surprised with how much McHale emphasizes defense that we are not better in that area and I am not against having McHale back here even though majority of people are against it. He still has room to grow and I think he is good leader to develop our bigs.

Does Don Nelson have any gas left in the tank? I know he's pretty old, but his style of ball IMO would fit the team well, PLUS he actually can draw up a play when we need it.

I don't want ignorant posters on the BBS trashing a good man's name because they don't care enough to educate themselves.

But, as you can see, we don't always get what we want.
