Swiftrocket & all Walt-bashers, Especially SwiftRocket-- What's your beef with Walt? That's absurd to believe that he got his GAME on JUST because he was fretting to be traded. If that were the case, it would mean he could Ball like that on the turn of a dime, which would mean he would be one of the top players in the League. The truth is, he hit a hot streak and was unstoppable towards the end of the season. He WAS one of the reasons that we have something to look forward to next season. Listen- if Walt didn't get hot like that all of a sudden, the chemistry would not have developed. You can't expect chemistry to develope like it did- afterall the season ended when the Rockets were getting ready to play more. For those of you who say walt is Slow and has no handles.. I'd beg to differ. There have been many, many times when he's gone baseline and taken it to the hoop. Perhaps he's not the strongest finisher..but his true strength is at shooting the ball. For ALL of you who say...he's nothing but a 3 point shooter. That's coming from bandwaggoners who didn't even pay attention to the rockets last season. I don't understand how a 15-time poster can come onto this Board and start bashing Walt, when all his observations are wrong.. it's obvious you haven't been paying attention... ------------------
Walt had his moments last year and throughout his career, but is this guy built to last? He runs like his knees are shot or something. ------------------
i'd trade him for a used tea bag ------------------ Stuff BBS, the Rockets and you guys It's all Clippers these days, come join the bandwagon and visit http://www.ClippersCity.net
WALT IS DA MAN!!!!! DAMN LANKY!!!!! -WWFC ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate.
Walt is a good player who does not fit into the Rocket's future plans. He spreads the floor on offense, he finishes well, and he is a very good ball handler for a forward. Let's trade him to a contender, if possible, and let Walt contribute as a role player. ------------------
Langhi has a lotta potential, but we should wait before we decide to replace Wizard. The NBA season is much different from a few summer league games. If Langhi keeps playing well, and an opportunity to trade Wizard comes up IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON, then we should trade him. ------------------ treasurer of the moochie norris fan club
Guys, here's an idea.....I heard on some site (bskball.com or nbatalk.com) that the nets would like to have Walt on their squad....How about we trade him for Kerry Kittles, and then get a medical exception worth the league avrage out of him?? If u noticed, the league average is around...4.1 or 4.5 million......hmmmmm, can the sonics offer any more than that to Rashard? I dunno if it would work out, but it sounds logical to me since the sonics can't offer much to Rashard....... ------------------
I like Collo's idea. We need a legit NBA 4, and as Swiftrocket says, we need to open up PT for Langhi, as well as keeping some minutes open at the three for Shandon, so we trade Williams and Drew for Laettner. The dollars match perfectly. Somebody get CD on the phone with Joe Dumars. j ------------------
Man, Williams should not be given up for nothing, which is basically what Laettner has become. In fact, if you count Laettner's locker room presence, he's worse than that for our team. Just who are we dumping all this salary for. Webber's not coming here. Do we know how long Rashard is signing for? Who's left? Mutombo - no, Finley - I guess, if we believe he's the answer at small forward exclusively. Who else is out there? Nobody.....so what's the point of giving Walt away just to get rid of his contract???????? ------------------ [This message has been edited by oakdogg (edited July 31, 2000).]
Im going to ask the same question I asked last year. Why is it Walt has the honor of being regarded as one of the "great shooters" of the NBA? Walt is a lifetime 43% shooter. A lifetime 37% 3 point shooter (both very, below mediocre to mediocre stats). Last year his numbers were slightly higher at 45% and 39% Hes never had even one season where he deserved to be labeled one of the best shooters of the NBA. Same question I had as last year, "Why" He was also voted the poorest defender in the NBA one year, and it hasnt improved. He rebounds lightly, dribbles fairly well, and passes fairly well when he does pass the rock. As it stands, Hes a just mediocre shooter, with absolutley horrible defense, really slow, and a light rebounder, at the SF spot. Short of one of his decent streaks to pull his FG percentage out of the pits of 38 ville hes a waste of a roster spot. [This message has been edited by Dreamshake (edited July 31, 2000).]
One question. If we trade Walt, who are we going to get to smack Shawn Bradley around next year? ------------------
Uhhhhh.... Beuller? Dreamshake, where would I verify this? I always here tidbits such as "He was voted dirtiest player", etc. etc. but I am curious to see where that information is stored to begin with. Thanks in advance for any links, pointers. ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning? - Dubyah in Florence, SC. 01/11/2000
Swift Rocket, you want to get rid of Wizard for who? Christian Leattner? And do you think he'll be a fit for this team. I don't think so. And by the way before you said you don't give a **** about what any 1 else thinks, then why make the thread then. That is the whole point of BBS. To find out others opinions and it just shows you are ignorant to not listen. BTW-Who would you rather? Wizard or Pippen? ------------------ I'm tha hip hop attracta, rapper slash acta, right back at cha!
Dreamshake: I would say that Matt Bullard is one of the best shooters in the NBA today - is that a fair thing to say? His 3pt % is 38.5 for his career. Walt's is 37.3% for his career. Now these are NOT bad numbers for a 3pt% - I fail to understand why you think that they are? Is Stockton a horrid 3 point shooter? His % is 38.2 for his career... I happen to think that that is a good number too. In fact when you think about it, having a 3pt % of 33.33 is equivalent to having a FG% of 50. So in DREAMSHAKES language, having a FG% of 56% (the equivalent FG% to Walts 3Pt%) would NOT make someone a good shooter... go figure.... ... I'm sure that a lot of "specialist" 3 point shooters have % slightly lower than they may otherwise have because they receive the ball with 2 seconds left on the shot clock and a defender on them and just HAVE to throw the shot up. That sort of situation doesn't help one's % at all, and if it only happens one in every 20 times that still a % of 5% lower than it otherwise may have been. On another note, sure Walts OVERALL FG% may not be great, but it's not too much lower than one would expect from a player who scores from the outside. Do some research, it's QUITE rare to find a player who shoots over 50% and is an "outside" type. Most 50% FG shooters are forwards or centers who take a lot of shots around the hoop and have good finishing skills!! ------------------

You guys kill me. Walt Williams was part of the rotation of a very good Portland team, and now he is a starter for the Rockets. Look at his paycheck folks, he is a decent basketball player who is capable of scoring 20 points any time he laces up his shoes. I want him traded too, but let's not go overboard with this negative hyperbole. ------------------
I am tired of you people say we should trade Walt Williams. I wouldn't want to trade Walt Williams because he is a good three point shooter and he was one of the reasons why the Rockets won 9 out of their last 13 games. Another reason why Walt is important to this team is because when other teams go to double team Cuttino Mobley or Steve Francis Walt Williams is wide open for the three pointer and most of time he makes the wide open three. Walt Williams can play four position point guard, shooting guard, small forward and power forward so why does alot people hate Walt Williams. ------------------
Trade Walt. When he is on, we win, BUT he is only on part of the time. He gets too much money to only play good for part of the season (especially when we dont want him to play that good cause we would have liked a higher lottery position). Dont trade Walt for Christain Laettner. I say trade Walt for the Big Dog. Defensively there is no improvememtn but offensively at least Glen Robinson is consistent. ------------------ Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women!
Stockton also happens to own a career 52% FG%, and is one of the greatest passers of all time, as well as the career leader in steals. I'd say Walt's shooting is above average, though not lights out. Other than that, what else does Walt have in his favor? Sure, he's a good ball handler, but his defense is flat out awful. He's slow, and inconsistent, plus has a fat contract. If we really want a scorer that bad, I'm sure Boston would be willing to trade Dana Barros. He lit us up for 50. He has a higher career FG and 3P% than Walt. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
