MJ or Magic Johnson. But it really depends on the type of team you want.

If you have a triangle offense oriented team, then I would probably go with MJ. If you are fast breaking like we are now, then maybe Magic is your man.

Its all how you look at it, really.

If we were to trade francis then that would be the dumbest thing ever the Rockets have done apart from signing Scottie Pippen. And as for what Dr Dunk said that is a disgrace man how could you trade Kobe, Vince or Grant for him? I wouldn't even trade Shaq for him he has had one season.....when Steve has had 3 or 4 he will be way better for this team then what Shaq would be now. If the Rockets trade Steve then I will lose respect for the ball-club.

Where are all those people who always replied to the "Who would you trade Hakeem for" threads?????

I seem to remember that they always said that they would trade anyone if it made the team better... Odd, how they change their minds when it comes to Francis.

"Who would I trade Francis for?"

No one. Not because I think he's the best player in the NBA. Not even because I think he will become the best player in the NBA (I actually don't). But, because he's has the potential to be an all-star point guard, and he has only (and hopefully will only) played for the Rockets. He's ours, he's the Rockets, he's Houston's...

I don't want Toronto's star. I don't want L.A.'s star. I don't mind adding other stars, but to lose ours only to get someone else's ain't what being a fan is all about... to me anyways.

    Come on... a disgrace? [IMG]
I think at this stage of their careers Kobe and Shaq are better players than Steve is. Kobe is every bit as explosive as Steve on the offensive end, but he has something Steve is nowhere near getting at this point : Defense. I never said I'd positively take Grant Hill over Steve, but a young Grant Hill? Probably would. Vince I'd take just for the star appeal and the fact he's 1/2 a Michael Jordan already. He's got the offense, even moreso than Steve does. He just needs solid defense. As for Shaq... you have to be kidding me. There are 3 people in this league I'd trade Steve Francis for without even hesitating : Kevin Garnett, Shaq, and Tim Duncan. Shaq is the single-most unstoppable force in the NBA. He's every bit as unstoppable as Jordan was in his heyday. To say you wouldn't trade Steve to get Shaq is thinking with your heart, not your head. When's the last time you saw Shaq get consistently outplayed by any one player? Steve was abused regularly by opposing guards this season simply because he has no defense.

... and yes, this coming from me, a guy that absolutely loves Steve's game (except for the TO's and lack of defense). But to each his own.

Francis has too much potential for us to trade him for anyone.

That's true. His potential is too much for us to trade for the most unstoppable player in the league, ie, Shaq. Of course, not that the Lakers would be nuts enough to make that trade, but hey.

... and just to let everyone know where I stand, I'm a hybrid pessimist-realist.

    *cough* *cough* *ahem*

(this could be a long long off-season... come on Rudy/CD... pull the trigger on a/some blockbuster deal(s).)

I really wouldn't trade Stevie for anyone because of his potential to be as good or better than most of the guys listed.

We might want to think about what we might gain by simply doing nothing and keeping him: one of those other stars listed. Tho I wouldn't bet the farm on it, I also wouldn't be surprised if someone like Duncan or Hill wanted to take a second look at the hypothetical game plans they'd be able to generate with our existing backcourt (Steve, Cat, Walt, Shandon, Mooch) and thought "Gee, I might be able to make this really work..."

Granted, everyone might not be around next season (Bryce, TMass, Gray, maybe Cato and/or Walt get the axe), but as long as Steve stays we have a core of Stevie, Cat, and Shandon locked in tight. I don't buy the Mobes moving bit - the man just wants to get PAID (I know, he makes more than us, but he's entitled to more). Also, in my bold prediction, Shandon - not Stevie - will turn out to be the anchor for the team when it's championship time. The more I watch and listen to him, the more I'm convinced he's just a real-deal-kinda-quiet-Iron-Man...

But back to the subject, if we want another star - and I think we need two - especially a big man, then we HAVE to keep Steve. Who the hell would want to come here if we gut our backcourt? No one wants to play on a half-equipped team... Which is why we are particularly attractive to the big men in the league - and I think that gives us an edge, no matter the deal.

Steve became the heart of the Rox backcourt this season - really, the whole team. No way can you trade a gem like that, especially when it might attract others...

And Steve + 1 Star Big Man + the rest of the Rox corps (mainly Shandon & Cat) = at least 1 championship.

I'm pretty sure it won't take long for someone to realize that.
