Thanks Jeff for bringing some REASON to an embarrassing thread. Its at time like this that many of us don't post at all, because they don't seem to even deserve a response, but then what happens, is all anyone ends up reading is panic posts, driving many from the board. Keep it up, and you too, Manny, Crispee, Hottoddie, Rockhead, mumu, and Michael.

and Francis3, were YOU drunk when you wrote that? good grief...

Losing hurts, doesn't it? Makes even the most well-reasoned fan say things that he wouldn't otherwise consider. The cause of your losses, as said, is injuries. Gotta be cool until it passes...

We pray for our coaches to make the sum of the remaining parts more than they really are, but that rarely happens. We pray for our second and third string to step up, but that only happens 3 or 4 times out of 10. You just have to grit your teeth, content yourself to watch development, and hope the injured players are keeping names and promising revenge...

Sorry Rudy T lovers but Im frustrated at the way he coaches the team. Even when we had Francis healthy, he sucks at his job. He seriously cant coach worth ****. Just watch how he runs an offense. Pass it out and shoot , wish for them to make it.

Also the defense is horrible. At least design plays where they work. Maybe the players are not doing the job, then the blame goes on Dawson for signing these no defensive peice of **** millionaires.

Rockets rebuilding is turning to different directions. I think a change in the coaching system will actually help this team.

    Ummmm.....this one aint even close!

    RUDY!!!!!!!

I have criticized Rudy this year, but aint no way he gets fired at the end of this year. We have our first and third best players missing significant part or the entire part of the season.

How good do you think Phil Jackass would be if Shaq missed alot of games Kobe missed maybe the entire year?

Rudy deserves some blame this year, but to blame everything on him would be beyond ridulous.

If there is a bet on this I will be on Jeff side. I am willing to bet my entire post count and my moniker that says Rudy will not get fired this season or at the end of this season!

I never said I didn't like Rudy. I respect him....he's a helluva coach, but I think change is in order for the club. Change is good most of the time, ya know, but people are resistant to it. It's not particularly about the losses...it about how the losses come about; poor execution.....lackadasical play....no hustle. Most of that comes from poor planning and not being able to motivate the players.

The organization? Sure they love Rudy and unfortunetely that's why some of them should be moved out right along with him.

Oh...don't expect me to take you up on some kinda bet....it's a sucker bet. For all I know you could be part of the organization:eek:

Rudy is the best man for Rockets head coach available. I am loyal to Rudy. I do not beleive in change for the sake of change. It would cost the Rockets team so much to :

    1) Fire Rudy

    2) Lose credibility among agents, players, media, fans , and other coaches

    3) We would have to fire Carroll Dawson

    4) Hire a new GM, then coach

    5) Blow up the team, get rid of players, get cap room-this all takes time

    6) Trade and Draft for new players-this would take years, a lot of luck, and lots of resources.

None of this makes sense. I would rather have Rudy than Van Gundy (Balkie), Dunleavy, Jim Lyman, Bob Hill, John Lucas, or Don Cheaney

There are not that many good, proven coaches available in the pros now. we could look for a college coach that could help us build a team that could play the zone, but that would take years and untold resources. This would be a great risk of money, and likely a waste of time.

    I'd pick Jeff Van Gundy.

I wouldn't want to get riddy of ruddy, just move him. I do believe in loyalty, and Rudy is as loyal as they come. Keep him in the family, just not as the head coach.

    Jeff:

    Question:

What threshold would Rudy have to cross to be fired or transferred to the front office? I'm do not currently have a firm position on this issue, since I

    1. has absolutely nothing to work with because of all the injuries

    but

    2. am still disappointed with the lack of ball movement in the offense... sub-par players can take some of the blame, but I still think he bears *some* responsibility

I'm still trying to decide which of these I find to be more persuasive. I'm leaning toward #1 right now.

But, if Rudy had a horrible season this year, got the talent back from injury + a lottery draft pick, and STILL lost next year, I might decide I want him gone.

    Would the Rockets brass?

Exact scenario: Rockets go 20-62 this year. Next year, they go 25-57, without significant injuries. What happens?

Honestly, I have no idea. All I know is that, if you talk to anyone who knows the team and the NBA, they will tell you that Rudy is completely trusted throughout the organization and revered throughout the NBA, plain and simple.

    Francis3:

Do you know Rudy personally? Have you followed him around to bars? How, exactly, do you know that Rudy has a drinking problem AND condones the use of drugs, you dimwit?

I know you asked this to Jeff, but my opinion is that Rudy has earned the right to leave on his own terms, he can stay as long as he wants. If anyone ever fires Rudy, I will spit in that guy's face if I ever see him (well, not really, but you get the point).

That's ridiculous! The only way Rudy stays as long as he wants is if he buys the team. It's a good thing your not in the front office.....

If we follow your logic, we get Rudy sitting on the sidelines sporting his Depends and chugging prune juice....waving a cane at the refs....not a pretty sight:rolleyes:

I think bad suit man might be a good coach. He knows the game and seems like he would be a good fit with his energy. Maybe Rudy is tired of the daily grind. Remember when he took time off because he was getting burned out a little. I want him to stay in the organiztion though and a midseason change wouldn't any good.

I'm impressed from your loyalty to Rudy, but there is something wrong with your theory, you're saying that he doesn't have all the tools so we cant judge him, (I have no doubt that when Francis comes back we would be a great team) but good coaches make their team better without having all the right tools for example (look at Detroit and how they have changed or even a better example look at the Lakers before Phil Jackson or at Philly with all their injuries). My point is that Rockets should play better although that they have 4 starters injured (Rice, Cato suck so its not such a big deal) because this is the time when you can see your coach real ability (like Larry Brown did with Philly) and what he is worth because when your all lineup are healthy its not so hard to win. .

Move Rudy to the front office, and then sign Larry Bird as Head Coach!

I hope not!!! "Asta" is, I believe, Spanish for "spear". As much as you may hate Rudy, I doubt you want him speared!

I think you meant "Hasta la vista".

Um, by the way, show me one piece of documentation proving this. This is simply an urban legend popular among BBS pinheads.

Tomjanovich was arrested in 1994 for DWI, and the case was dropped for lack of evidence. The video taken by the arresting officers does not corroborate their claim that Rudy slurred his words or appeared intoxicated.

    So what else ya got?
