So I'm guessing the deal would have to be Butler, Love for Adams, Landale, Holiday, Tate, and Jeff Green if it happens. Cap situation would be tough for next season. The Rockets not likely using their own picks the next 2 seasons would mean this wouldn't hurt the draft capital. I haven't seen the Heat much this season, but I assume Bulter still doesn't shoot many threes, can score in traffic, and his defense is more slightly good depending more on experience than the tough, athlethic good that he was. Jalen Green and Reed would lose a lot of PT. I'd lean not really in favor as I think cap situation may not be as fluid as I like next season.
Butler is probably my favourite active basketball player because of his versatility and bbiq but the dude will be 36 next season.
"quiet discourse about whether..." what utter bs. Some of the stupidest non-news report framing I've seen in a while. What would I give up? Nada. Just what the Rockets need, another ball-hungry mouth to feed who can't be counted on for more than half the games to come for a backbreaking cost. And I'm a longtime Jimmy fan. All this trade nonsense is just so stupid, and I hope the Rockets aren't that stupid. While everyone lauds Rafael Stone, do recall that they wanted Brook Lopez to start over Alpi, and KPJ and Jalen Green. And if the reports are true and not total BS, he also wanted to trade a huge package of picks for Bridges. I'd bet anything that drafting Sengun was an Eli Witus-informed pick, Tari too. In college he had the projectable numbers stats guys love, especially stocks. It might well be that the Rockets are looking at Butler, because the owner is a moron and Stone is possibly a fraud who's gotten lucky, and it likely at least half a fraud. I wouldn't trade any of the 8 rotation players except either backup center. That means no Shepp. And I wouldn't trade Whitmore. Man, all these tweets and podcasts are like, "Rockets might consider doing X or Y terribly stupid thing thereby giving up multiple core rotation players and picks because 2nd place in the West with a only two players over 29...isn't promising enough? Sources say that making the playoffs was the goal coming into the year, but now the Rockets are considering blowing up a team with the third best avg margin of victory in the league because who knows. Yo, all this crap. Rockets haven't had the hardest schedule, but certainly not the worst. They have a good shot at 50 wins and that's better than fine.
Jalen Green and our non-rotational players...Jimmy Butler is not my first pick to trade for, but if we're seeded below #5 at the All-star break, we should be intrigued in trading for him.
eh. dont think im giving up any assets for 36 year old butler who plays in a position we are stacked in,
Jimmy makes too much money that it's difficult to put a trade together that makes sense for Houston. The only asset I'm willing to trade out is an FRP and Cam Whitmore, after that it's a bunch of role players and I'm not sure why the Heat would do it, other than risking losing him for nothing. I put this trade together with Nuggets needing role players in mind, but is not a good trade. I'm not even sure I want to give up Dillon Brooks since he really helps us on the 3 point line. We are already a poor shooting team and swapping out Dillon for Jimmy is not necessarily great since he is a low volume shooter from the three.
I don't think we have enough picks to justify making the trade for someone that old while gutting our prized trade assets. Good player who is still contributing at a high level, but for how much longer? He's not your go all in on guy at this point because of age. I would give up Cam Whitmore most likely as the prized asset along with salary filler. I don't even know if I'd give up Dillon Brooks at this point. If I had to to make salaries work I would probably want them to give me back a bunch of 2nd round picks at least. So far this season Brooks has sort of been our version of Jimmy Butler anyways. He's not as good, but he's still an important piece of our culture, and defense.
It’s five years too late. I wouldn’t trade any assets for him. In fact, Miami would have to trade us assets just to take him off their hands.
Heat are probably salivating with the resources they think they can pry away from Houston. If Pat Riley wants a player, it’s because Pat Riley knows there is a player worth having. Butler though one of my favorite players has got maybe 2 or 3 good season left, and the winding down type of good seasons; because his elite years are 3 years ago! Still an all-star stratosphere (maybe based on recognition and still having mojo), but perhaps a a top 20-25 player in the league, and next year he’ll continue to drop. I would pass because I think the Rockets core is still trying to figure things out, and a fella like Butler is his own system; much the same reason the Rockets went the Fred Vanvleet route in lieu of James Harden. But it wouldn’t surprise me if the Rockets did make a trade to acquire Butler (if Morey were here, there would be little doubt he doesn’t trade youth for veterans), but I think the window of opportunity quickly expedites into a 2-3 year to win a title.
