Posted this in the random trade thread, but thought I'd post it here too.

Bill Simmons proposed this trade in his most recent video. Thoughts?

    FVV, Adams, Tate, Whitmore, FRP

    for

    Butler, Rozier

No because Butler is in the last year of his deal and would want a max or he dips. The next deal will be Butler's last big contract he wont settle for a reasonable amount he will want the largest he can get for the longest time. Butler is also extremely erratic and just a few cm of being a locker room cancer. I can see him getting his 50M 5 yr deal and peacing out to chill with Unc Jeff on the bench. There's a reason Miami want to dump him its because he is always injured and sitting on the bench.

Simmons is saying this crap because he wants the Rockets to get Butler and then screw themselves with his horrible contract. Dude has a hate boner for Houston due to the Morey drama even if it was Morey who left his job and even lied to Fertita saying he was gonna raise his kids then suddenly became Sixers GM a month after.

We have a lot of young players that until Ime came along no one thought would look like this. These players have a lot of runway left to wow us again. We need to keep our powder dry for a REAL star that fits our timeline like Ant Edwards, Booker, etc. Harden (Cheap OK) and Butler are stars from 5 years ago. We have to resign Amen, Tari, etc. We should package Brooks and FVV when we do these trades. I am open to moving Green next year but we need to get maximum value for these guys. We burned the Harden team and tanked for a reason. This team with assets can compete for a decade or more. If you told us about our current circumstances when the Harden trade happened no one would believe you we would be the 2nd team D in NBA and 2nd in rankings and have a war chest to add other stars. We are doing this without stars but with homegrown stars in the making.

"As it pertains to the Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler, who is known to be available and reportedly has the Rockets on his list of preferred destinations, team sources say it’s highly unlikely they’ll pursue the 35-year-old, six-time All-Star from nearby Tomball, Texas. As was the case with Harden, age is an undeniable factor in the calculus. And while Butler is an elite two-way player who could turn these Rockets into title contenders immediately, it appears there’s still an aversion to the prospect of adding any star in his mid-to-late 30s."

Butler is a negative asset. They would have to add 2 frp's for our junk players. Over 50m a year for a guy that can't stay on the court and doesn't spread the floor.

I don't agree with mortgaging the future for Butler but if we could get him for cheap, say Brooks, Tate, Jeff Green and this year's PHX first. I am all for a rental.

Jimmy wants a contract extension wherever he goes. He essentially wants another year added at $50M. We would be paying him $50M in his age 37 season. That is a lot of money, even if he actually were playing every game and was a good locker room presence, he provides neither.

I know the Suns pick has been trending in the wrong direction as of late, but that was very much expected. They hit one of the easiest parts of their schedule and took advantage of it. Their schedule is the toughest in the league going forward, so that pick can easily end up in the lotto still. I just don't want a situation where he is holding out because he wants an extension like he is doing in Miami.

We are currently not even giving Cam and Reed a fair shot to develop, unless we got the #1 overall (which I do not think we would have, I feel like the league will give Flagg to Utah), it just made sense to diversify with future picks. I think the value in the Suns picks will be there in the later years. Also, I think Brooklyn would have put together a borderline play in team in the East accidentally unless they made those trades they did and are going to likely make more because they have their 2025 and 2026 picks.

We still have that BKN 2027 swap which now the value of that is going to be pretty high because they are trading away their good players to tank. I don't see them rebuilding with two higher first round picks + two lower first round picks in two years, and instantly turning it around in 2027, it took the Rockets 4 years and a major coaching change to get to .500 and 11th seed in one of the most efficient rebuilds of all time.

The Rockets also got relatively lucky by getting a #2 overall and #3 overall in back to back years and utilizing mid first round picks to find Tari and Sengun. This is not easy to do, and having the right coach was crucial in making it work along with what is looking like a top 10 GM. If they followed the same path of even the most efficient rebuild, they'd still have one of the worst records by 2027. It is taking many top draft picks longer to develop than in the past as well (Just look at Scoot, Reed, Risacher, Sarr, etc)
