You can't cut aterrapin from your roster unless his last name is Massenburg. So WINK, the Wiz, TMo are safe. Lanky can only ball @ the revue.(bye.) Bull will retire as Rocket.(someone has to.) and either Mooch(if he's greedy) or Colson will be gone. Collier has to be given a chance b/c he at least tries to improve and we don't want to let that go unrewarded. Unless your Cato
So who was the last player to retire as a Rocket? Charles Jones? Earl Cureton? Two-Sandwiches? I can't think of too many others. What an impressive list...
I would cut Walt and Bullard and let Dan and Morris battle for the back up spot behind Eddie. Bringing back Shandon will be a waste of money.
Yeah, but Chuck has already said that he's going into the Hall of Fame as a Sixer. Which really does make sense, though a case can be made for him going in as a member of the Suns...
Morris or Bullard will begin on the IR. Colson almost certainly will be if he isn't cut. There's no chance of Bullard being cut and there's no chance of KT beginning on the IR. KT is probably the best per minute rebounder left on the Rockets. Bullard is a fan favorite who actually knows the game and fills a needed role.
I can't think of anyone I would want to cut. Maybe one of them will be willing to be like Charles Jones or Pig Miller; Wait around for the Rockets to call, get signed to two ten-day contracts, then be cut again.
Obviously, we don't need to cut anyone, because of the IR. However, if we were in the cutting mood, this would be my priority list of cut people: 1. Colson 2. Morris 3. Langhi 4. Bullard 5. Cato 6. Thomas 7. Williams 8. Norris 9. Collier 10. Anderson 11. Taylor 12. Mobley 13. Griffin 14. Francis
I would cut JASON COLLIER!!!!!!! Thanks for all the factual evidence you use to make your points. By the way, even though I like him, I'd guess Morris starts the season on IR along with Bullard or Walt. Only one of those 3 will make the team, but Bullard and Walt probably have the early nod because of experience. In order of next season's priority: 1. Francis 2. Mobley 3. Taylor 4. Griffin 5. Moochie 6. KT 7. Shandon 8. Free agent or trade center 9. Cato 10. Collier 11. Langhi 12. Bullard/ Morris/ Wizard 13. Colson
The Rocks should place Collier, Colson, and Walt on IR. Walt hasnt' shot straight in a couple of games (82 to be exact). Collier was misused by Valde', which means a further drilling when trying to guard the rest of the Western Conference centers. Colson is too little to be effective and game is average based on a mediocre summer league.
Walt Williams, and Shandon Anderson probably get traded before the season starts...thus Jason Collier probably gets cut or put on IR since we get a big man either Kurt Thomas (NY Knicks) or Jahid White (Wash Wizards). We also will probably have two or three players on IR to start the season.
Guys, Walt and Bullard will never EVER do anything, but hit three pointers for us. Langhi will definitely be able to do that if he gets his playing time (confidence). I say we trade Walt. He's valuable to other teams. Last year contract, 3-pt shooter, veteran. Good trade bait. Then, we should renounce Bull. I know he wants to be back, but it's TEAM first, not individual. besides, I'm sure he wouldn't mind playing on a contender. Let's say we trade Walt for a big man, X. This is how I think we should start the season: (In order of minutes played) Cato/X/Collier Mo/KT/Griffin Griffin/Morris-Langhi (equal minutes) Cat/Shandon/Langhi Francis/Mooch That's 12. Morris will see quite a bit of IR time this way, developing his game this year. Maybe he can do what Derek Fisher did and develop a killer 3-pt shot, THEN he'd REALLy find a place on this team. The idea here is, Francis, Cat, and Mo have their places locked up. The Center spot will be locked up with Cato and X. So you put the three young SF players into the line-up, see who fits in best, plays harder, improves more. By the end of the season, we'll have caused matchup MADNESS at the SF spot, and we'll surely have a permanent SF.
Why is Collier above Mooch, Walt, and Kenny? And Bullard? And Langhi? Of course, the only one that matters is the first (Colson - I'd assume he's gone), and maybe 2nd, but I just don't get why you'd retain Collier ABOVE the 3 guys you listed before him. Collier has shown some promise - he had 4-5 really good games last year - but he's never going to be a defensive stopper/intimidator, which is exactly what we need up front now that Hakeem's gone. He can score. Has a nice baseline jumper, even has range. But he's slow (relatively), and he lacks the aggressive instincts (shotblocking and rebounding) we need up front. It is unlikely that he will ever be anything more than a decent backup 5 to play spot minutes. I could be wrong on that, but I don't think so. Did I mention that he's been injured for most of his short career and will likely start the season on the IR?
Collier is that high on my list because I ranked them in order of value to the team. Colson was insurance and I see no reason for him to be on the roster next year at all. After that, I wouldn't cut anyone, but if I had to, I'd cut people whose talents were already replicated elsewhere. Thus, our 2 projects at SF get cut because we've got Williams, Anderson and Griffin. Bullard gets cut because of the other SFs and because his retirement isn't too far away. Cato is cut for never trying; I'd much sooner give time to Collier who will show more effort than Cato. Thomas is expendable with Taylor and Griffin. Then it gets a little harder, with the bench rotation of Williams, Norris, Anderson plus Collier. I'd rather not cut Williams, but he has been off his game for awhile. Plus, he's older than the core. And, we still have Anderson and Griffin for the 3. Norris is next because our two guards are so good. The last bench man is Anderson, plus there is our only remaining center, Collier. I cut Collier first because the center position can be played by a PF and there is a point where talent is more important than position. And then you take out Anderson, and, one-by-one, the starters. So, why Collier? Because he's one of only 2 centers on the team, and the other one might as well not show up. That makes Collier pretty unique. Plus, he isn't at all slow for a center and, though he doesn't get blocks, his straight-up D isn't bad. I'm not sure what sort of rebounder he can be, but I bet he'd be better than Cato with 35 minutes in a game. He has been injured for a lot of last year, which makes measuring him hard; but, he doesn't have the track record to label him as a fragile player.
Colt45, no I'm not the same Fred. Actually I'm Dave, a budget analyst working in Washington, DC a few blocks from the White House. I call myself FredTerp since I am a Maryland Terrapin fan living in Frederick, Md...... Fred(Frederick)Terp..... My son (poster TMo) played with Terence Morris(TRock, TRock-et,TMo, Terence) at Thomas Johnson HS in Frederick, Md. I am fast becoming a Rocket fan. Amazed at the info I get from this board. Know the team without seeing the players. .....lately my friends have been calling me Fred.....thinking of changing my name, kidding of course........FREDTERP
Well it has been several hours since I have seen the Clutch BBS board, been to the movies, carpooled home, read the board. Believe it or not, this entire thread is almost obsolete. Things have been happening fast and swift, hopefully a better Rocket team. Just needs some fine tuning, especially eliminating a few forwards. Anyone care to list our new projected position depth chart for opening day. FREDTERP
Cat, this is why I want to cut Collier: I THINK HE IS CRAP!!! I've seen enough of him play to come to the conclusion that he is a talentless stiff. Those stats you constantly display mean NOTHING to me. 5-2 is not what I want from my backup center. Collier is easily the worst player on the Rockets, and is only good for six fouls. And those six fouls are usually "and-one's". Send him to some other team, he doesn't fit here.
