I really, really, really, don't understand all the Heat hate. At least from the perspective of a Rockets fan.
Rockets greats: Elvin Hayes, Rudy Tomjanovich, Moses Malone, Calvin Murphy, Ralph Sampson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Charles Barkley, Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady. Mavericks greats: Rolando Blackman, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki. Rockets Conference Championships: 1981, 1986, 1994, 1995 Mavericks Conference Championships: 2006 Rockets NBA Championships: 1994, 1995 Mavericks NBA Championships: Well...... It's not close. The Mavericks aren't a rival, and would need some sustained playoff success to be one. The Spurs have passed the Rockets in success of the franchise over the past decade. The Mavericks have barely gained.
Its a different time. Players back then made less than 5 million. I know the revenue also went up but sometimes things dont translate that easily. You also have to consider how home entertainment systems effect ticket sales. There are different factors you have to consider. If you truly think things are that simple without questioning it than your being ignorant.
Even if the NBA makes a profit it still doesnt change that fact that there will be many teams, probably including the Rockets, who will never have a chance. I dont know about you but I want to think the Rockets will be able to contend one day rather than have 2-4 teams compete for a championship for decades. At least in the 80's Rockets ended up with Sampson and The Dream. What are the chances the Rockets will get lucky like that again? This rockets team/management will always try hard to win so they will rarely be one of the worst teams in the league.
I'm German so i gotta go with Dirk and the Mavs. Been following them for a long time, would really like to see him and Jet win a title. Kidd is just great to watch, one of the best PGs of all time for sure. Guys like Marion and Chandler always been great players that did the dirty work and would help every team. Also great to see the lil fella JJ scorin buckets against the big guys. Great they knocked out LA, now give Peja his deserved ring. People gotta give Cuban respect for holdin the core together after all the things that happened in past playoffs. The Mavs are one of the most likeable teams in my opinion, they really deserve their shine.
Some of it stems from LeBron's jerky behavior over the summer and some is because people like to make fun of Chris Bosh (maybe because he didn't want to play here). What I don't understand is the extent of the hatred, which for many is over-the-top silly.
How about just enjoy good basketball between 2 very good teams? My wife said I am a happy and relaxed man again, when there is no more Rockets games, especially playoff games. I have changed my mind on both Dirk and LeBron. They both deserve a ring. So, may the better team win.
If the last decade isn't sustained playoff success for the Mavs, I don't know what is. If they win the championship this year, they're arguably the better franchise. True, they haven't had as many big name players. True, they didn't make it to the NBA Finals twice in the 1980s. But a 2-1 edge in championships is not such a huge deal, and going back to 1981, the Rockets only have two more playoff series victories than the Mavs (it will be tied if they win the title this year). It's a lot closer than you want to admit. The memory of those two championships and the two Finals appearances against the Celtics in the 80s make it really easy to forget the complete lack of success in between those highs (only two playoff series won in seven years, such a waste of Dream's prime) and the joke that this franchise has been for the past fourteen years (yay!, we're in the record books for being the only team to ever miss the playoffs with a winning record four times in one decade).
This is the Yankees effect. When you get to stockpile elite players on one team, you get the hate. It used to be the Lakers and the Celtics. Now that both of them have fallen, the target is Miami. You know, most people root against Goliath. That's human. I don't understand the not understanding.
For me, I just don't like Lebron, Thought he was turning into a douche in Cleveland who was starting to be caught up in his own hype. His various stunts in the summer made more even more of an A-hole. As far as the rest of the team goes, I'm pretty indifferent. I always like parity and competition in sports, stacking teams instantly like that is pretty rigged. I don't actually dislike anyone else on the team other than Lebron. I actually really liked watching Bosh since I'm from Canada, it's just fun to make jokes about him being the third wheel.
I have to disagree there. I think it's a lot more fun to watch this Miami team that actually has a chance against the other elite teams than it was to watch D-Wade and Lebron overachieve with their separate teams in the regular season, only to get destroyed by teams with greater depth of talent.
bumping for impending doom. the worst case scenario is inevitable. resistance is futile. have you picked a side yet? i've contemplated just not watching and giving up on the season. ideally dirk and lebron would retire without a ring. however, lebron and the heat will get one someday. so if i have to live with that, then i have to root against dirk. dirk is close to the end of his career; this might be his final chance since the heat, thunder, bulls, etc are up and coming. so i guess, logically speaking, go heat?
