Who would you be happy getting in return for Francis?

    My choice:

    Francis+extra for SAR+Diaw

I don't know how Raheem fits with us but I know Diaw is great player! Sort of a JJ(tough defender, very good playmaker and incredible athletism) but taller and younger!

I like Jaric and Brand for Francis and Taylor

Don't know why the Clippers would do it though.

McGrady is the guy to go after. But if I was the owner of the Magic I would not do it. I would rebuild around McGrady.

That trade could make alot of sense.

Though Gilbert has put up very good numbers, he hasn't quite lived up to his big contract in the first year and the Wizards haven't won. But in reality, Arenas has alot of the same skills Francis does, though not as good an athlete but a bettter shooter.

The underachieving Kwame would almost certainly benefit from having a dominant big man to share the paint with.

The Wizards would have a marquee name and local star to boost ticket sales, and Francis is the 'best' overall player in the trade, so it's not like it's just about marketing.

    Good idea!

You hate SF because he shoots first. Troy Hudson shoots first and passes never.

Really, TMac might be a possibility.

Remember how he was in love with Yao after we kicked their a*ses? TMac may be very interested in coming to Houston. Plus he is willing to do anything to win. Not like the franchise, who only cares about his own style of play.

I would never happen but the rockets would be much more fun to watch. There would be a lot more fast break action, but our defense would be weaker.

One, they don't have a rebounder like Cato in Dallas.

Two, they don't have a low post scorer as good as MoT in Dallas.

Three, Steve is better than anyone else in Dallas - including Finley and Nash.

We are better balanced and play better defense. We are also deeper than Dallas.

There are plenty of players I would consider trading SF for, but I'll only list the ones that have a better chance of happening(no Garnett, Brand, etc ...)

Kobe(if the lakers don't want to lose him to another team for nothing, mebbe they would bite)

TMac(same as Kobe, though TMac does have a year left on his contract, would also have to have him get an extension)

Arenas + Kwame + change(or mebbe Arenas + Okafor if they have a top lotto pick)

Billups + Okur(signed to a nice long reasonable contract, providing of course that we couldn't get him with the MLE)

    JWill + resigned Swift(see Okur) + Battier

    Ray Allen + change

SAR + Terry + crap for SF, TE, + change(not exact, but something like that)

Of course none of these trades are probably correct capwise, but I'm sure it's not too hard to balance out by tossing in a few throw ins. I'm more concerned with balance of talent and the rox needs. And this is with the summer in mind. I don't think SF is going to be traded before then(if at all) unless he pulls a pippen, and maybe not even then.

Of all these trades, which can actually be accomplished?

    And calm down Juugie.
Francis better than both Nash and Finely.

The same Nash that beats his man off the dribble more times than Stevie does, or the Nash that has a shot about 100X better than Stevie.
Oh, you must be thinking about the Nash that hits those 4th quarter shots.
    yeah.......

I’d like a young (under 23) unproven player with potential + a lotto pick.

I think Van Gundy inherited a team that is maybe not the best fit for him. He’s a disciplinarian and I think it would be best to get some young, hungry players that will follow his every direction without any sort of struggle.

A lot of players here have been in this league for so long already and are used to playing a particular way that it’s made it so difficult for Van Gundy to make any huge changes to their game. Let’s give Van Gundy some players that are a complete blank slate so that he can develop and mold them into the type of player he wants. Then maybe Van Gundy’s complaining will cut down a little.

I don’t know if these teams are willing to give this much up, but these are the type of deals I would consider giving up Francis for.
Caron Butler or Dwayne Wade + Miami’s lotto pick
Tyson Chandler + Chicago’s lotto pick
Carlos Boozer + Cav’s lotto pick
Kwame Brown + Washington’s lotto pick

And Dallas is a strong defensive PF/C away from actually being totally dominant.
Why would they take an over dribbling, miss every shot, make stupid decisions type player for Dirk who has proven himself.
Cuban will eventually wise up(what a dumbass), and spend a sh|tload of dollars on a Ben Wallace type player or two.

Arenea/Kwame, SAR/Terry and even Billups/Okur...I like them. They seem intriguing. But Yao would have to become the leader, because those guys are not.

JWill/Swift...They want to stay in Memphis. Too good for them to leave.

Ray Allen? No. Not good enough.

TMac? YES!!!! That's my favorite. He can score and he can lead! Yao will fall into a supporting role while developing at his pace.

    Kobe? No. Too much baggage.

I have watched a few Dallas games this year. Steve does not dribble around anymore then Nash does this year. In the past yeah, but not this year. The only time Steve really dribbles around a lot is when he resets the offense.

    .....fair enough.
Now, if only his dribbles lead to scoring.

    Is this a fantasy thread?

I don't get it... 80-90% of the people in here thinks Francis is not an all-star (not to even mention a franchise player), yet, we should be able to fetch one in a trade (Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, Elton Brand, )???!!! ok...

"Francis is not a winner, he is a selfish player, he has no heart, he has big ego, he can not co-exist with another star player, our team will NEVER get to the Finals much less win a championship... but hey, will you (team ABC) give me your franchise/top player in exchange for this immature child?" Are the GM's out there really that ignorant, if all this claim were true? (Remember, what's his name in NY is gone.)

    Tracy McGrady:
Would you give up Yao for SAR+Terry?
If you say 'Yes', why? The Hawks are 16-34 with those 2.
If you say 'No', then why should Magic give us McGrady for Francis+Cat (or any other combo)?
If Orlando worry about his expiring contract, there will definately be better deals than we can offer. I bet Cuban will gladly give up a combo of any 2 (Finely, Nash, Walker, Jamison) for McGrady. Remember, Francis+Cat (or Cato or Taylor) is often believed (on this board) to be less than any combo of 2 from Dallas.

    Ray Allen:
Isn't the Sonic's the team that said they want a team of "good character" players? Why would they want a "liar" in exchange for goody-2-shoe Allen? Wait, isn't Allen an All-star? We better pony up some extra's to make it even. How about giving them Cato or Cat?
Let's see... allstar+olympian (Allen) = borderline allstar (Francis) + (Cato (good bench player) or average starter (Cat))... hmmm... that's fair...

    Vince Carter: see McGrady above.

    Rasheed Wallace:
And people complain about no heart, egotistic, and selfish...

    Antawn Jamison:
Dallas will do this in a heartbeat and we will forever be Dallas's b@tch for the next 7 or so years (just my opinion, no substance to back it up).
My question is: Is this what we really need? Jamison's game is more of a PF than a SF. Our needs are at SF & PG (if we trade Francis), if we are not getting a stud player (which I don't think Jamison is, IMHO, he is a borderline star), wouldn't we serve ourself better by concentrating in getting a good playmaker who will help Yao and the team more? Remember, we are giving up our 2nd most valuable asset.

    SAR:
No thanks!!! This guy has done less for his team than Francis has for this team. He didn't win with Bibby (who many believes is a better player than Francis) at Van. He hasn't win with Terry in Atlanta. What makes one think he will help us win here in Houston?
He has consistently put up 20pt, 9+reb, yet he only made the allstar team once... really makes you wonder how valuable he really is.
If you say "Francis hasn't won anything either.", then... so we are now exchanging "losers"? I thought we are trying to improve, not just play musical chair.

    Elton Brand:
I would love to get him. Is he worthy of Francis is debatable (IMHO), but I wouldn't say we got a raw-deal if it's done. But I don't see why the Clips would do this. What do they gain? They won't exchange for them straight up, since Francis is not a "franchise" type player, so we have to give extra's. Again, Cato, Taylor & Mobley. Cato & Taylor cost too much and they already have Maggette at SG. So why would they want Francis?

    Lamar Odom:
This one is interesting. I'm not that high on Odom, but I won't flat out say he is not a good return for Francis. But again, why would Miami do this. They have a promising rookie PG in Wade & I think EJ is still under contract for another couple of seasons. Odom is cheaper for Miami.
And talking about a player that haven't lived up to his potential, isn't he suppose to be the next Magic?

    Andre Miller:
A lot of people claim that Kiki is the genious for turning Denver around, so why would he trade for a heartless, self-serving player to lead his team? Wouldn't Francis take the ball out of Mello-Yellow's hands like he does from Yao's (allegedly)?

    Andre Kirilenko:
Really don't know much about this player to comment.

    Baron Davis:
Franchise player for the Hornets. Please see McGrady & Carter above.

    Gilbert Arenas + Kwame Brown:
Here are Gilbert's #s this year (granted in 20 games)
    .376FG, .690FT, 4.9Reb, 4.9Ast, 4.05TO, 1.86Stl, 17.8Pts
Last year was his breakout year & his #s were (82 games):
    .431FG, .791FT, 4.7Reb, 6.3Ast, 3.54TO, 1.51Stl, 18.3Pts
I have not seen Arenas play much, so I apologize for going strictly by the #s, but I fail to see how that is an upgrade from Francis at the PG position. By adding Brown IMHO is not consider an upgrade because I don't see him being any better than a bench player.

ROXTXIA, that is too much money for Washington to absorb and it still means no playoff for them. Atlanta is getting a raw deal, they are not getting any value in return other than dumping SAR's contract. I am not a big SAR guy, but this deal is for sure in Houston's favor.

    Paul Pierce:
Ainge is looking for PG to help Pierce, not to trade your franchise player for a "good" player.

    JWill + resigned Swift(see Okur) + Battier
I think this one is a reasonable one (going with the premesis that Francis is just a good player), but damn... is this all we're getting? I don't see this as pushing up over the top though...

NewJack, I don't like "picks". They are really crab-shoots (sp). Unless you are sure that pick turns out to be top 3, you are really taking a big gamble. Les is ready to win, not taking any more "gambles".

If anyone think Francis is a "good" player at best, don't expect anything more in return. Actually, you should expect less because he is being paid like a Max.

If all I'm getting are these so-so player in return for Francis, I'd rather take my chances with him.

If the Rockets are going to trade Francis, which I'm still not sure is the correct route (though I'm leaning that way), they will probably do it in the offseason. Between now and August, a lot will change.

You should start looking at lottery teams that have lost fans and are in bad need of a jolt, preferably East Coast teams. Atlanta, Washington, Chicago and possibly Orlando or Boston. If you look West, (which I doubt the Rockets would want to trade a starting All-Star point guard to the same conference) you're probably looking at Golden State, Portland, Seattle and possibly the Clippers.

Each one of those teams is going to have a new asset come June 24th in the form of a lottery pick (some more valuable than others), and many of those teams will explore all options before selecting a player. A player who may be untradeable now could be on the block then because the best available player at their pick plays the same position, and the established player would return a great value.

For example, say the Clippers somehow land in the top 3 of the lotto again. Most of the top players available are forwards... and the Clips also have a young Chris Wilcox. Does Elton Brand then become expendable if they can secure their PG spot? If I'm not mistaken they'll have a lot of cap room to go after Kobe, and if they miraculously get him I don't think they'll want both Steve and Kobe in the same backcourt. Or perhaps they will. If they lose out and get someone else, who knows.

Washington is another team that seems possible, given it is Steve's hometown. Gilbert Arenas and Kwame Brown may be too steep for the Wizards, but for the Rockets, other than age (Arenas just turned 22), I don't see how the Rockets would improve with Arenas.

Orlando and T-Mac. I just personally don't think the Magic are going to trade McGrady talent-for-talent at all. I could be wrong, but I don't see it happening. If McGrady lets them know that under no circumstances will he re-sign with the Magic, then probably things change.

Atlanta and Portland - I would not want to trade Francis for Shareef Abdur-Rahim or Rasheed Wallace. I wouldn't mind either player, but not for Francis. I think I would cross both of those teams off the Francis sweepstakes (if one exists) for that reason.

The other thing is do you want to start the rebuilding over.... maybe not from scratch, but take a few steps back with the hope of building a championship team with Yao in a couple of years. In that case would a lottery pick like Dwight Howard or Emeka Okafor be the prize you seek? Who knows.

Clutch, are you trying to tell us something or you are just saying that there is enough time for these guys to grow-up and/or play better.

Nothing cryptic - I wish I had something right now to be cryptic about :). I was referring to the fact that right now we're analyzing trading Francis in early February, but in late August the NBA trading landscape will be entirely different. We may not want to trade Francis then, teams will look at different things, the draft will play a large role, etc.
