    My wish list:

    1. D&D specific ignore list. Feels like 90% of people on my ignore list landed there because of this forum, but I'd otherwise be totally OK with their sport takes.

    2. Instead of "mods" for D&D, why not do it commercial arbitration style where (i) candidates (minimum number of D&D posts required) put their names into a pool, (ii) D&D active participants (minimum number of D&D posts required) rank select candidates, (iii) top 3 vote getters are elected, (iv) posts getting x number of reports automatically get submitted to the arbitrator panel, (v) 2 out of 3 down votes from arbitrators results in the post being [my preference would be hidden from all instead of deleted outright, a la spoiler tag or "show moderated post" you sometimes see on other sites].

[Corner case in this system is that if there's a troll that's on EVERYONE's ignore list, this person's posts may never get to the "x" reports threshold....]
[Not-so-corner case is someone can be ganged up and reported repeatedly. There are only like a few dozen active posters in D&D....]

    3. Every [6]-months (or earlier if there's a (i) resignation or (ii) an arbitrator not "showing up" for x% of the votes), rinse and repeat step 2(i) - (iii) for the vacant seat(s).

    4. Maybe a poster that gets too many deleted/moderated posts (or too many within a certain time frame) automatically gets banned for X weeks/months from D&D.

I realize it might require a ton of programming, but it would be a do it once and be done kind of thing (I think). And it wouldn't require mod(s) to crawl through the forum posts.

Note that this system may not absolve the site from someone saying "go kill yourself" and the other person actually committing suicide sort of things, if that's what Clutch is trying to protect against....

The important aspect to keep in mind is whoever is selected should be someone who can treat everyone with respect. I dont think this persons political views should matter.

Its also to note one of the reasons this sub exists is to keep the bickering and drama contained to this sub. Trolls are going to troll. There is a fine line between trolling and being outright nasty. In my time here, there are only a small handful of guys here who can tell the difference. @Major , @JuanValdez and @Dr of Dent comes to mind.

    Appreciate the nod.

I could give up being a sarcastic dick to blow off steam and "act Presidential". Free speech is a great yet annoying ideal and I don't think this place needs too much changing. There'd need to be rules given my biases, but rules in general are a great placeholder that regulars here know enough when not to enforce.

Greatest dealbreaker for me is unblocking a small few members who post here and reading their same BS without any hint of growth or public discourse.

The biggest trick for surviving as a mod here is not becoming a mascot with bored little kids running around you day and night.

As for nods, I nominate Jaygoogle, Major and Franchiseblade for being even tempered and present enough.

Invisible Fan and Deji would also be good. And Rashmon. Many good posters.

It needs an objective set of do not's, and then when whoever is moderating, just points to the specific rule, of course people will be accused of bias, but so long as its clear and transparent, most people are fine with it (and it would also make your job of administering it cleaner being able to cross check if the rule was applied correctly)

In my experience, this sort of forum can't really be moderated on any subjective lines without it degenerating into partisanship control.

I've read it off and on for a while, only posted a bit, it needs to be a bit cleaner, however the life shouldn't be sucked out of it.

Just reading through the various posts of what a mod should do or might do makes me nervous. More often than not, I really enjoy the D&D. We have had a recent bad experience, but I question whether a mod or mods would have prevented that or not. If I had a vote, I would keep the D&D the same. The reporting function worked.

I agree that having to take 2 or 3 dozen members off ignore so their posts could be seen would be maddening. I like your suggestions. All three would make fine moderators. Thanks for the mention, @HayesStreet, but I'm too busy looking for Russian bots. ;)

Sure it can if the mod(s) can leave the politics out of it and only referee when people get out of hand with personal attacks. There are VERY few times when a mod is actually needed here. We do a good job of policing ourselves. Obviously we had a thread get out of hand which is what led us to this but I rarely see the need for a mod especially a heavy handed one. There should be good spirited debate here but it should remain clean without personal insults. Rules help but we are all grown ups here and as long as we act that way, not much needs to change.

Nobody that participates in the D&D would be a good choice. It’s pretty clear lines have been drawn.

While I appreciate the recommendations, I would be a terrible moderator. I think D&D was great 8-10 years ago when there was a mix of rational liberals and conservatives, but it's gone to hell since and become just a forum for repeating various talking points. I've stopped bothering engaging people outside of occasional fact-checking and calling out trolls. As a moderator, I would likely ban half the forum, including myself for being an ass at times.

Very flattered but I try to avoid this forum for religion and politics. I’m not interested in babysitting it.

The type of things to keep out are personal needless attacks, like @AroundTheWorld on @Northside Storm calling him “intern” and @Mathloom derogatory names. Grown ass men need to be civil and realize their own kids behave better than they do. Only then can we have civil discussions. Keeping that sort of talk in check, and restraint by the aforementioned poster will go a long way. Also him/her realizing that certain obsessions and whatnot are a good reason to stay out of the forum.

Haymitch touched my peepee, so he shouldn't be a moderator.
