Find someone who has zero desire to regulate speech. Short of outing someone's anonymity or criminal behavior, nothing should be off limits. Posters already have the ability to ignore posters so banning for personal attacks or offensive opinions is unnecessary.

Of course, you're three choices are all lefty posters

How do you think that will end up?

Ok, I did my best to take this seriously. It should ideally be someone who is a contributing member, who is active in D&D, and has been here a long time. The less tribally affiliated the better -- I would think a non-US voter would be best since that's the topic that seems to be the most volatile.

AroundtheWorld came to mind first, as did Mathloom, but they hate each other, so there's that. So, I gave up pretty quick on anyone that fulfills all the criteria. Any choice would have to be a compromise.

Mango and MadMax and geeimsobored don't post anymore -- they were all good posters.

BBob gets mentioned a lot, and like Decker, he's been here a long time and actually tries to share his thoughts, but in the thread where he called RocketsLegend a "Russian bot", I think that might even be worse than going ad hominem. I had to take a break after that. I wanted to know what he had to say, precisely because I don't have much in common with his views, but I didn't get to read it because he was shouted down and chased out of the discussion. If there is anything needing moderation (other than the personal vitriol, of course) it's that.

BigTexx, MojoMan, Cojete Rojo, FranchiseBlade, dumbartonbass, Bobbythegreat, SamFisher, Os Trgonum, Commodore, Nook, KingCheetah, Granville, R0ckets03, cml750, Exiled, durvasa, CometsWin, fchowd0311, Bandwagoner, JuanValdez, tallanavor, txtoney, glynch, Rashmon, London'sBurning, amaru, and Ottomaton make this place what it is and there wouldn't be much to read without them. All of them have gotten likes from me at least once, but...no. It's like Bill Laimbeer -- fine to watch them do their thing but you wouldn't likely get consensus on having them as a ref.

I would vote LHutz, who would be ideal. That's my dream pick -- he's the the greatest poster in the history of the board, but he's been gone a long time.

I'm probably forgetting someone, but these are the cards I still have in my hand: Space Ghost, Buck Turgidson, mdrowe00, Invisible Fan, ima_drummer2k, justtxyank, robbie380, heypartner, tinman, and Yung-T, and not necessarily in that order.

Well -- it brings up a good point: is a moderator here to provide policing on behalf of the offended, or to nudge a heated conversation from going off the rails?

I can agree with anyone from this list. I'd add @Falcons Talon, too. He's a high school teacher. Who better to moderate this place than that?

I agree with @tallanvor a lot on this issue.

People are going to insult each other, hell, it happens in the GARM over which player is better. I'm more interested in keeping discussions from going completely off the rails. I think too many threads here period go way off topic. I think a fair thing to ask is to just keep threads on topic.

It's fine to call someone stupid for saying they agree or disagree with something the president has done...it starts going off the rails when posts are nothing but insults to another person and aren't even on the topic at hand.

Otherwise, I favor a more free speech environment around here but I realize I have a greater tolerance for insults and such as I have no issue responding in kind.

rocketsjudoka is the first that comes to mind for me. he has a track record (and previous moniker) of being pretty level-headed, fair and respectful. ive never seen a post of his where he seems upset or crosses a line with anyone.

if he was interested, i think he would make an excellent pick.

@MadMax was mentioned. He would be great. Is @Refman still around?

Since you brought it up, I'd suggest that anyone who has or would call others trolls or Russian bots simply because of political disagreements they have with them shouldn't be eligible for the job. I'm not saying that about anyone in particular, just as a general rule.

Secondly, do you really think that if i had multiple accounts I'd still be here? Do you really think that clutch didn't check that when a certain group started harassing Bruce Andre and accusing him of being me simply because they didn't agree with what he was saying?

This has actually been one of the best DnD threads yet. Lively discussion with nobody getting too personal. It's cool seeing some old names posting as well.

I can’t recall ever seeing @rocketsjudoka or @JuanValdez being anything but civil and informative. If they had any interest in it, I’d trust them to do a great job at this.

I’m sure there are many other posters on here who would do a great job, but those two come to my mind first.
