Its really interesting to watch DM's moves. He's way ahead...several steps ahead...of most fans and even other GM's. He's provided a great package for this season, while at the same time, building for next season and Yao's return. Andersen should be even better by next season, judging on Scola's experience in moving to the NBA.
Yeah, I think most fans only pay attention to offense and even then he's only shooting 42.4%, abysmal for a big man. Most fans don't realize that right after he scores from that nifty hook he goes down the court, misses a box out, and allows his man to get an easy put back. When he's hot he can be useful all other times I would say he's a detriment to our team. He's not nearly consistent enough to play one side of the ball.
Andersen is representative of the Globalization of the NBA. I see this as a combination of DM and where we are with hoops. It's taken a long time to get to the point where a GM can just plug in a "good" international player that could come into the NBA and break into a rotation/with some upside. The quailty of hoops across the world is seen here. That said, DM has TOTAL game.
The man is about the 8th-9th player in the rotation. If he can make a big contribution in one of four game, he's very high valuable. He don't need to be stable or defense specialist. He did his job with sometimes suprising the other team by his offense.
I agree that David Andersen is very productive today considering the way he was brought in Houston. But I wouldn't agree he was complete unknown, I mean he was one of the most complete players in Europe, especially when he was playing with CSKA Moscow. Although he was slowed down a bit by injury, he was also great in FC Barcelona. Joey Dorsey on the other part looked as a nice move, getting a muscled, athletic four ala Carl Landry. Problem is that he didn't quite find his place under NBA sun but I hope he eventually will.
Novak gets minutes for the clippers I still think Maarty Leunen could be a good bench player Dorsey has a bad work ethic. It is hard to scout that.
He's a competitor just like Lowry he often can get you back into a game when the starters are off. If he improves his strenght and D he'd be pretty complete player and of course must rebound better.
I must have missed him, but I didn't see him play in the Toyota Center. They gave him a few minutes in the beginning of the season , but they have reduced his minutes to 0. He has only played in 2 of the last 5 games. Those 2 games were already decided and the Clips emptied the bench, a 31 pt loss to the Suns and a 16 pt loss to the Spurs. He is the Clipper's version of a human white flag. He will be out of the league after this season. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/steve_novak/game_by_game_stats.html
Andersen's actually had a way worse December than he did in November. Like Ariza type bad lol. But he does look more comfortable performing bad, if that makes sense.
He is a shoe-in for the All-Rookie 1st Team (there are only 2 rookie centers in the league, him and Hasheem Thabeet, if you don't believe it, look it up. Tho I think Byron Mullens was called up from the NBADL by the Thunder).
honestly, I am satisfied with andersen,u know he only earn 2.5m,so only if he could do a little contribution on offense ,we will be pleased. but still i strongly recommend our manager to find a more decent backup C who could take more minutes from yao and play toughness in down low area.
Im talking about a shot blocker...yeah chuck holds his own but im not gonna settle on chuck as a center.
He's coming along nicely.... But need to take a lesson from Yao to be considered a real NBA player: • the word "polite" does not apply to NBA game • get pissed off • abso-bloody-lutely posterize someone with a dunk • does the Auzzie stare down • gets called technical for taunting • welcome to the NBA =)
The average fan doesn't know anything about European players, except maybe Luis Scola, Pau Gasol, and Ricky Rubio.
Pretty sure, Steve Novak was before Morey took over at GM and he was productive off the bench as a straight up shooter, but we didn't have nearly enough weapons for a pure shooter like that to be effective without other skills which Novak didn't have. Heck, even the trade gives us a shot at the Clippers second round draft position. Newley was an Australian player that we drafted in case he might come over here, but had no need for him at the moment. Not exactly costly since we didn't offer him anything. Leunen similar story a maybe like a lot of 2nd round picks and Dorsey is still a project, that unfortunately isn't yet in game ready. Hardly what I would mark down as failures.
