I didn't know if you did, but the comment about people having no sense stands for those not recognizing that Orlando was getting the cap space even if they kept McGrady because he was leaving as a FA in 2005, which is a large part of why they traded him, because they had previously let Shaq go for nothing. Turns out they ended up trading all players involved mostly for cap space, which they would have had regardless.
Wow you are stupid. You aren't worth my time, as you clearly are incapable of knowing how to read, or maybe you just aren't capable of comprehending what you read.
Yes, I am not smart, I am only a rockets fan. No matter what was the goal of the magic, they get what the wanted. No matter what was the goal of the Rockets, we are still in the same level as 4 years ago. How stupid are you?
Tmac played the year before last year and helped shape the likes of AB, Landry... He was part of the team that went to the 2nd round, although he was sidelined.
we were a better team immediately and for 3 years were labeled as "dark horses" in the west. ofc that didnt mean much.
How are we the same level as we were 4 years ago? We have good young players now without our allstars stars, but at least we have a solid team...Back then how many games would we have won without Yao and Tracy? I guess I missed the title parade in Orlando, because they way you're talking it's like they already won a championship. They won 1 game last year to avoid being swept again in the finals. I'll give you this...the trade was essentially used to free up space for Lewis, and he's a big part of the team...I guess the better question is: Is tracy healthy enough to be better than Lewis?
I love being a Rockets' fan. It's painful, yes, but they are my A#1 team. Next year is our year; maybe this year!
Ummm I think he's talking about championships FOLLOWING the trade. At least the Magic have been closer. Magic Finals appearances since trade - 1 Houston - 0
The answer is simple: The Rockets win. Would the Magic do the trade again? No. Would the Rockets? Yes.
WRONG The Magic wanted to get rid of Tmac and Tmac wanted out of Orlando. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1825839 McGrady can opt out of his seven-year, $93 million contract after next season, and has said he will exercise that option unless Orlando improves dramatically from the 21-61 record this past season. But the Magic have vowed to trade him, rather than letting the four-time All Star leave without any compensation -- like Shaquille O'Neal did eight years ago when he signed with the Lakers as a free agent.
We did. In 2005 we had a chance to go all the way and the refs screwed us in that Dallas series. Tmac elevated this team to serious contender status that year. Then the next two years we played a tough tough Utah team and lost in 7. Do any of you think last year's Rockets team would have beaten either of those two Utah teams or the Dallas team in 2005? I don't. That Portland team we played last year in the 1st round doesn't compare.
sure he wanted out. But knowing how badly Cato, Francis and Cat, came out to be don't you think they would have to tried to find something better? To paraphrase George Costanza "They could of thrown a dart out a window and gotten something better"
The best option the magic could have done is just let him walk which in effect they did. The other deal on the table was with the pacers.
thanks Air Langhi for actually remembering history. I think some people here are trying to change the cards they were dealt, that doesn't work in poker. here's more from that article for people who didn't know what happened: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1825839 Tuesday, June 22 Tracy McGrady can opt out of his contract next year. He made it clear that he will not re-sign with Orlando. So the Magic felt like they had to do something, so they started to listen to offers. We reported on Friday that Indiana had made an offer and Houston made an offer. When Indiana would not put Ron Artest in the deal, Orlando felt like this offer of Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato was the best one they could get to put a star player in Orlando and also try to rebuild a franchise. So they felt like with the No. 1 pick along with Francis, that's a good start for rebuilding. ... The problems Francis had with Jeff Van Gundy were obvious all season. We talked about it many times. It was clear when the season was over, Van Gundy was going to move Francis. There was some talk about going to Seattle for Ray Allen ... when you get a chance to get a guy like Tracy McGrady, you try and do it.
