I wanted to say Patterson would start the season at the PF spot ..... but I have a feeling he wont be a Rocket come opening day so I went with Motejunas.

Patterson's salary is nearly double the rest of the PF corps .... He and Martin's salary's allow for a return of approx $18.75m.Toss in Jerome Jordan's $762k and you have the #'s to take back Howard - Bynum can be brought in for ~$3m less in outgoing salary.
His team option for the following season is also desirable to Orlando ....

I realize the Rockets are under the cap at this point but I have a feeling they structure two trades , one contingent upon the other being approved - the first bringing them up to the cap by taking back salary and the second bringing in either Howard or Bynum and exceeding the cap.

Another poster mentioned Glen Davis .... If he's the contract taken back in a deal , thats a strong possibility.

Why rightfully so? It clearly is not his spot to lose. Daryl Morey said the starters on the team are Lin, Martin, Parsons and Asik, he did not say that there was a starter for the power forward spot. The position will be up for graps when October comes around.

I see what you did there. ;)

And I think it may end up being Donuts... if "the trade" goes down, you want forwards with range to pair with the big fella. Putting shooters like Ryan Anderson around the big fella was the team in Orlando's most effective line-up last year.

There will be like 20 min available for the most deserving of them (including Harrellson?) at the center spot. Asik should be eased into the starting role and its grueling demands.

I have to agree with this also and I wouldn't be surprised if Pat looses his job half way through season too.

Patterson will be going into training camp as the starter. McHale will assess his improvement coming off injury, if he has improved sufficiently (gained his athleticism back or developed a post game etc.) he will start.

Remember McHale is a big believer in post play and our current best post player is DMo, i think it will be a close battle between those two.

If DMo can dominate PatPat in scrimmage, he will gain the spot IMO

McHale won't just hand over the starting spot to a rookie, and much noise will be made to soothe egos, but I'd be shocked if D-Mo wasn't starting by mid season, probably sooner.

I am thinking that DMo will be seeing minutes at the 5 next year. Someone has to play the backup 5. DMo might have the best combination of skill, height, and weight of the 4s to play the 5.

The one who overplays the rest at training camp/first games of season. Last year was Parsons at SF. If Jones, White or Motiejunas overplay Pat, they will start, Morey can say whatever. Maybe Donatas is nor prepared but less is Pat.
D-Mo has the handicap that there's nobody behind Asik right now to play the backup center. Important handicap. But at the same time he's the best low post player and without Luis we're going to need some offense.

I really don't know who to bet for, but I think it's on Patterson more than on other guys. If he comes to the TC with improvements in the post, I guess he would be the favourite.

At any rate, must be said that Chase was the starter last year, and then lost the spot, but counted with McHale's confidence initially. Then it was showed on the court that the team lacked physicality and defense and Parsons gained the spot.

For this year (and figuring a final roster similar to the current one), we can guess that we're going to need some overall offensive game inside. I would go with Pat intially, but if he doesn't show important improvements, I'd go with Motiejunas stilly.

Patterson to start, but if he doesn't play impressively, I think you'll see a lot more DMo and Jones as the season moves forward. One of the most frustrating things for me is trying to figure out how Royce White sees any time at all this year. I do not want to see a repeat of the Marcus Morris situation. White is twice the prospect Morris is.

Truthfully, i'm praying for another move, if for no other reason than i think we need to thin out our logjam at the 4-spot. I don't want to see wasted potential sitting on the sideline, stagnating development, in a rebuilding year. Something's got to give.

Pairing a pair of athletic 7 footers (Asik and DMo) I think will be too much for McHale to pass up. While Motiejunas is going to get manhandled in the paint, Asik will be there to help him. DMo’s pick and roll defense will make him useful on defense while his offensive skills will help to offset the lack of offense at the Center and Small Forward spots.

    crash

    My thinking exactly

    Patterson or Glen Davis.

If not Davis, I'm hoping for a huge rebound year from P-Pat.

Donatas will get plenty of minutes, as someone else mentioned, the double 7-footer lineup is too tempting to pass up.

If we play conventional and traditional - then it 2Pat. Maybe we can go unconventional for the 4 spot and chop and change who starts depending on who we're facing and match ups. Would there be chemistry issues?

PPat will start at the 4 spot, but either Montie or Jones will finish there.
