Rick Carlisle will be coaching next year, somewhere. He's too good a coach to not find a job somewhere. I would bet on him to get the New York job.
everything hinges on the bulls search for a coach. gundy or carlisle? if carlisle goes to the bulls, gundy probably wont want the most stressful job in the league, and skiles probably isn't a good fit with the ego's on the knicks. thus, the unthinkable happens... walsh keeps the guy he once hired in indy... thomas stays. if gundy gets the bulls job then carlisle reunites with walsh in NY.
Thomas running the Knicks is like Bush running the country. A total disaster! I wonder if they are friends. If not, they should be.
Van Gundy is still a god to the new yorker basketball fans. Talk to any new yorker and at least 75% will say knicks suck without van gundy. I hope he gets paid and pulls a larry brown on them. Or a Van Gundy rather.
It's gonna be interesting to see who they pick up, I think JVG would make a lot of Knick fans happy and Carlisle is a good coach as well. But their roster is the exact opposite of players hard nosed coaches want. I wouldn't let that stop me from getting the coach I want, but this just shows how dumb Nolan is for letting Zeke run that team into the dirt for so long.
Were I making the decision, I'd go with Carlisle. The biggest thing you need now is an iron fist that will lay down the law and get people in line and playing organized basketball. Skiles is abrasive enough that he needs young guys to shape - he has trouble with willful vets. JVG isn't welcome back, nor is Larry Brown. Now is not the time for a first year head coach (Jackson, Thibodeaux). Starbury needs to be bought out this summer. Randolph is going to be a major problem but not one easily removed. Curry will pout and cry, but isn't as troubling a headcase as Randolph. Crawford, Lee, and Jefferies should be fine. Evan
