granted, but your conclusion was: "Franchione is going to A&M. Everything else is BS." that article does nothing to confirm or deny it.
fran becomes the best coach in texas when this happens, hands down. look what he did with TCU, fer chrissakes! the guy can flat coach and he's not too shabby a recruiter, either.
B99, in your assessment of a sinking ship, you neglect to point out one MR. REGGIE "THE REAL DEAL" MCNEAL. Anytime you pair a QB like him with a top notch coach, anything can happen.
I think he is a good coach and will certainly make the aggy better, but people are going a little overboard here. All of the crap that Mack gets for not beating top 10 teams, well let me share this fact YET AGAIN with you and others about Fran. It has been 4 years since he beat a team which finished in the top 25 (#13 Air Force 1998). He has never beaten a top 25 team in a major conference. Last year versus team that finished in the top 25 he was 0-3 (LSU, Tenn, & South Carolina). This year he has faced 5 teams that are in the top 25 currently only 2 of them are locks to finish in the top 25 (Georgia & OU) and he lost to both of them. They beat LSU #25 (may lose thier bowl game thus not finishing in top 25) & Arkansas #22 (plays #4 Georgia Sat and should lose that one). The other team was Auburn #23 who was adouble digit underdog to Bama yet Bama lost out right. With the remaining games left for his opponents, there is a very good chance the streak will last another year.
You are going 100% on hype without looking at the facts. I have said many times I am for Fran at aTm, but to think him being a successful coach with Reggie equates to a no brainer, think again. Reggie may suffer under Fran. Have you seen the offense he runs? He is a running coach even going back to his TCU days. Unless he changes his philosophy, Reggie may not be able to show off that arm as much as he should.
In all fairness, he's only had one season where he played enough top 25 teams for this to even be an issue...last season. And this season, there's a good shot that he'll still have beaten a couple of teams that finish in the top 25. Bottom line, he's turned around programs at places where no one thought possible. There's no question in my mind, he'll do the same at A&M, thus having another quality team Mack can choke against every year.
That's my opinion. I believe Franchione is going to A&M and everything else is BS. The article had nothing to do with it. I posted the article to show that A&M has contacted Franchione (or rather A&M has asked and received permission to talk to Franchione which you pointed out).

From TuscaloosaNews.Com: UPDATE: University of Alabama head football coach Dennis Franchione and his wife, Kim, left Tuscaloosa on a Texas-registered private jet at approximately 10 a.m.
do you think that maybe had something to do with the fact he had a nobody running back named ladanian something or another? unlike slocum, he seems to adjust to the talent he has at his disposal. if reggie can chunk it, he'll build the offense around that. you don't turn around one program after another, with almost alarming consistency, by being stubborn.
You recruit people that fit your game plan, hence the "ladanian something or another" signing. Fran does not go after QB's. Drew Tate, the states most prolific passer (albeit in a Tech style offense) even made the comment "if the coaching rumors are correct, I think I will change my commitment. He is a coach that focuses on the run." Sure he will may make some changes based on the talent on his team, but a zebra can't change his stripes.
Fran can thank his predecessor at TCU for recruiting that guy Ladanian something. Wasn't he a finalist for the Heisman?
do you have a source for this quote? not only does it sound a little too convenient, but i have a hard time believing anyone would consider franchione more hamrful to a passing game than r.c. freaking slocum. i mean, "pass" and "slocum" rarely come up in the same sentence... unless there's a "doesn't" thrown into the mix.
Believe what you want to, but its a fact. If you are in Houston, he said it in Fox Ch 26 news when interviewed by Berman (along with his stepfather, also his HS coach). The interview started by him staing that RC was supposed to visit him the day he got fired and that he was going to wait to see who the coach that is hired to make a final decision and then he went into that statement. He also went on to say that there are 3 schools that he is currently looking at and he gave a little blurb about each of them. Iowa- They have called him several times and he wants to take a look at the program Tech- Is really interesting for obvious reasons, but they have a QB who just recently signed to go there so he was a little uncertain. UH It would be nice to be close to home, but it will depend on who they hire as a coach (and by his tone it seemed like a REAL long shot). Then in closing he stated that it was all still real fresh and he hadn't really had a chance to think about it in great detail, but he was strongly considering going elsewhere (and he again DIRECTLY mentioned Fran's style) but he was going to wait until everything was complete. Its not a big loss with McNeal there, but it does raise the question about what style of play you will see. Furthermore, a close friend who is close to his family said that his mother was never big on the aggy commitment and she thought he should have waited to really weigh his options (even before th RC firing).
Yep, Coach Fran is now an Aggie! Take that T.U.! I sure hope Tate still comes to A&M, I would hate to see Texas Tech get him. Hopefully Fran can keep this recruitinc class together and bring in some more talent. Man it feels good to be an Aggie fan, we got a new AD, new Head Coach, and the basketball team is playing great. Maybe this will get the Texas A&M\Texas rival back to where it used to be.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Coach Fran has a lot of work to do. Yes we have a lot of talent, but they will have to adjust to a whole new system. It is nice to see the basketball team playing well...exciting game last night...they're playing a lot better than they ever did while I was a student and Barone was the coach.
