Those of you who think Smokey and I are jumping the gun, two DFW area stations have reported the trustee meeting with Fran didn't go well. Also, wjox reported Fran will visit College Station.
I'd prefer the latter as well. Worse thing that can happen is 8-10 win seasons. That would help Mack keep his job. I don't want a 4-7 season to be the nail in the coffin. Would the UT bigwigs be content with 8 win seasons? Actually, I think if Mack doesn't beat OU in two years, he's gone.
While we may never find out if Fran only needs to sign, the charade in Alabama is hilarious. Lets see what happened today: 1) Bama hasn't been contacted. 2) Bama has been contacted. 3) Fran speaks to boosters. 4) Fran cancels night meeting with boosters. 5) Fran has poor meeting with BOT 6) Report Fran is close to deal with A&M. Fran on plane to CS Lets not jump to any conclusions...
Geez, the rumor mill is working over time at College Station. In the past 48 hours, I have heard the following names linked to the A&M coaching job: Franchione, Davie, Davis, Little Stoops, Terry Bowden, Bellotti, Frye, Barnett. This is getting ridiculous.
Not all of those have come from College Station. Stoops, Bowden, Belotti, etc. those guys always get named. Fran is the guy, imo. Also, who is Davis? Not THE Davis is it?
I'm assuming that Aracee didn't get canned unless aggy knew that they had a good shot at Fran. Tomorrow's "visit" to College Station should be the final step, and the press conference should happen any day know. Also, according to tideinsider.com, Fran's meeting with Bama officials this afternoon went very poorly, and they didn't come close to coming to terms on an extension. Rumor is that aggy is offering around $2MM per season for 5 years. That is ludicrous. Knute Rockney himself couldn't turn around the sinking ship that is Aggie football.
Come on, Ref, by now you should know that Horn fans refer to RC as "Aracee." Channel 5 spotscaster in Ft. Worth, Newy Scruggs reports that atm has offered Fran 2 million a year for 5 years. Also, he said sources told him that Fran's meeting with Alabama trustees did not go well... Also, see that article from ESPN?
I was actually referring to your nutty comment that A&M football is an unrightable sinking ship. That is ludicrous.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm glad somebody with no A&M ties agrees with me. I feel a lot better.
To your credit, money can buy you alot; 10 milion more dollars and you'll be close to the minimum requiremnt to talk to UT alums.
I think it's time that A&M go back to their original formula: badass linebackers, and a power running game. Texas A&M was a running back factory in the early-90's. Remember these guys: Rodney Thomas Greg Hill Leeland McElroy Dante Hall How about their linebackers: Warrick Holdman Dat Nguyen Keith Mitchell Not to mention the fact that their strength and conditioning coach is the best in the nation, resulting in all the Aggies in the NFL today. Case in point: Robert Ferguson blowing scouts away at the combines two years ago. Look at this link: http://cbs.sportsline.com/u/football/college/tracker/6003_college_index.htm In other words, alot has to happen for aggy to get back on the same plane as TX and OU. Franchione has to rebuild this team from the bottom up. Their TE is Thomas Carriger dammit!! That alone should tell you where you stand. Also, Joe Weber and Keith Joseph are busts. Your receivers are fast, though, and Sammy Davis is a good cover DB.
A&M can be rebuilt - and very fast. There's a lot of talent on that team, starting at QB. Maybe not the depth, but who really cares if they have All-American 3rd stringers? They also can recruit small-town Texas much better than UT, because smaller /rural areas tend to grow up following the Aggies. I doubt they will be in Texas/OU's class next year, but they can certainly be competitive like Tech and OSU were this year - both of whom were 1 win away from winning the B12 South. And within 2 or 3 years, they can potentially be right there competing every year for the B12 and maybe more.
