I agree. I, drapg, am officially putting my name into the ring as a candidate for the Texas A&M football head coaching position.

Why me?

Because:

a. I can recruit. I can relate to today's high school graduates. Seeing as I am only 24 years old, I know what's important to incoming freshman athletes. They are:
1. quality of attractive women on campus and their seasonal warddrobe
2. quantity of alcohol available at an hourly basis
3. seedy areas of local interest
4. workout facilities
5. program strength

b. I can yell and distort my face. It seems to me that a big part of coaching college football is yelling and creating dramatic poses for the national cameras. As long as Lee Corso mentions my name every Saturday night, I have done my job.

c. I can talk. All coaches have their own weekly radio or television program where they are fed sugar-sweet questions by make-believe callers. I have a voice and can ably fulfill this duty.

d. I have thick skin. I can handle criticism from homer fans, moronic sports writers, and the public at large. They can talk about my gung ho coaching style, my horrible fashion sense, and even my mama... It's like water off a duck's back.

So in conclusion I hope that the incoming AD at Texas A&M gives me a chance. With the literally tens of thousands of hours I have spent watching, analyzing, playing, reading, writing, and living football, my qualifications are impeccable.

Are you on some kind of medication we should all know about?

Just because Mike Stoops doesn't strike fear in the hearts of Longhorn faithful doesn't mean he can't do the job. None of us has clue ONE whether he can or not. So I wouldn't be proclaiming a long string of dominant victories before you've seen the guy as a head coach.

Believe it or not, I've been hearing rumors that Jimmy Johnson might be interested in the job.

Or Gary Kubiak for that matter, who currently is the offensive coordinator for the fourth highest rated offense in the NFL.

Franchione is your next coach........Unfortunatly this won't help your team win against the Longhorns.

Hell, I'll bet you. What are the stipulations? Keep in mind, you're losing all of your "playmakers."

Regardless of the coach, I 'd be shocked if you guys win 8 games next year.

Aggies? Beat the Longhorns? Next year? ha ha ha.

Possible, of course, especially since it's a rivalry... but the talent should be even more one-sided, w/TAMu losing some key players, and Texas keeping most of theirs.

And the "heralded" TAMU recruiting class really doesn't look so hot. It's big. It's got a lot of "good names." The UT class will be smaller, but will have more truly elite prospects.

All the Aggies forget that most new coaches never fulfill expectations. UT is a fantastic job, but even from Akers to Brown... there were two busts.

Between Lou Holtz and Willingham, ND had Davie. Looks like Zook is going to flop at Florida. Other top flight schools have gone a decade or more between good coaches (USC, anyone?)

Top flight coaching talent is rarer than you think. And any big school hire comes in with a lot of fanfare and expectations. Every single one of them has "proven" their worth at another level or job. But most still don't work out.

The new TAMU coach may be better than RC Slocum... but the odds are against it. I think the firing of Slocum was necessary... but the Aggies are way too confident about the outcome of the succession.

You mean we had playmakers this year? :)

I'm not disagreeing with you about the 8 games either, nor am I saying the Aggies are going to completely turn it around in one season. But A&M at home vs. Texas. I give it a 50-50 shot.

As far as the bet...I don't know. What do you propose?

Let me jump in here.

Let's make it a bbs-wide bet. Something to do with signature, since all the other stuff continually gets reneged on or causes problems for clutch.

Next year, the gap between TAMU and Texas will only get larger. Texas depth is just coming into play. For the first time, a Mack Brown class will be in its 5th year (for the redshirts). And that 1st class wasn't really as deep as the later ones.

Meanwhile, TAMU's depth will suffer as a recriprocal affect of UT's recruiting success. We got the big Texas recruits, so you didn't. OU also succeeded at TAMU's expense.

Regardless of who's coaching, you're in some ugly times for the next couple of years.

There is one possible caveat: if Reggie is Vick II, you guys have a chance.

DC, NAME YOUR PRICE.

I will take it a step further and suggest you look at Fran's record versus top 25 teams. He has not beaten a team which finished in the top 25 in close to 3 years and beyond that, he has lost to one which he was favored by more than 10 points (Auburn).

Before you say look at LSU & Arkansas, there is a strong possibility that both of those teams will lose before all is said and done with this season as the Razorbacks must play Georgia in the SEC Champ game this weekend, and as bad as LSU has looked recently, they could well lose their bowl game.

GREAT POINT HAVEN, but its a wait and see on that. Regardless, I would welcome a guy that would make them better as I would prefer to see the best talent stay here and I would like to see the aggy be a little more competitive.

What? You think A&M's recruiting classes for the past three years have been complete garbage or something? While they obviously haven't compared to Texas or OU, suggesting that were heading for "ugly times" might be going a little overboard.

Wasn't the 1999 A&M recruting class top ten? What about the last two?

I never suggested the Aggies are going to start beating OU or Texas. Right now, I'm more concerned about beating the VA Tech's, Nebraska's, Misssouri's, and Texas Tech's of the world. Once that happens, then we can start focusing on Texas and OU.

The bet was for the Aggies over the Longhorns at Kyle Field next season - not that the Aggies were going to win the Big 12. I may be stupid, but I'm not THAT stupid. :)

As for Reggie, I seriously doubt he'll be Michael Vick, but I'm pretty sure the Aggie offense will be looking better than it has over the past decade. It's the defense I'm more worried about, which is a first.

Oh pleeeease. If you think Mike Stoops will be another Bob Stoops, you're the one on medication. Not to say he won't be successful, but dumping Slocum for Mike Stoops is a bad move. And btw, Mike Stoops won't leave OU for A&M. One, he doesn't want to be in direct competition with his brother, and two, he'll get a job at a more prestigious program (UCLA).

That sounds some what like you think they will beat Texas, and that is what we are basing the conversationon.

Sounds like you were to me ;)

More aggy should take that stance. Its is sort of what the Horns need to do in regards to OU. Make sure we win the other 11 games and hope to get good enough (aka "get a new OC") and take that game as well.

If a&m were to win the other games and lose to OU and/or Texas, I think it would be tolerated more than losing those 2 games in addition to another game to Mizzou and so on.

Debatable, but you got my "Elite Eight" vote nonetheless;) ;)

Heh, that was a miscommunication on my part. What I meant was I do not think they will have a better season than the Longhorns or that they will be a better team than the Longhorns, but I do think they can upset them next year at Kyle Field. Kind of like I don't think the Aggies are a better team than the Oklahoma Sooners, eventhough they beat them at Kyle Field. ;)

That's good enough for me.
