I kept telling myself..........this is BS; this didn't happen. But a small part of my mind told me it was too obscure and weird to be made up.

Trump so far as stated he wants to limit what the press can print about him, he constantly lies about basic reality (gaslighting the country), he wants the death penalty for drug offenses, he wants law enforcement to be more brutal with suspects, he wants officials (including law enforcement) to be loyal to him, he is using NDAs to try to gag federal workers from discussing the tasks they are being directed to execute, he likes the idea of president for life, and he has a troubling affinity for Putin. He has even complained that our constitution is an "archaic system" limiting his powers. Consider his recent statement about letting authorities take people's guns without due process. This isn't a guy concerned about respecting the constitution. He really thinks being president is or should be that thing Putin and Xi and Kim Jong Un have.

Trump is steadily testing the limits of what our society will accept. And McConnell and Ryan are allowing him to, and I fear, taking notes for future reference.

It can happen here. And if it does, it won't be some wild revolution. It will be just another step into a brave new world FoxNews has done a mighty fine job conditioning a large percentage of our population for. Like the proverbial frog in the water, it happens as the political environment changes until those things we could never imagine as tolerable are just a daily occurrence. We mustn't underestimate how much power corrupts and what can happen in the instance of absolute or unchecked power. Even if it offends our imaginations.

I agree, Jeff. People are arrogant or complacent if they think our democratic institutions are somehow impermeable to attack. Trump has successfully weakened the key pieces that can contain him - namely the Justice Department, the Press, and Congress.

What I find disturbing is how much people still support him. Either they don't really care about our democracy so long as their man is the guy to take it down, or they are just blind as a bat. But maybe it's the latter given that so many of the left also don't take this threat seriously.

I think Jeff has done an excellent job summarizing why Trump is dangerous. If you do not see his actions as alarming I am surprised. Do you think the Kim family or Saddam or any of these other guys were murdering bastards from the get go? No they were not - they started of as megalomaniacs who turned into monsters AFTER they came to power.

If you think Trump would not kill if he was able to get away with it and it served his purposes - kill including American citizens - you do know understand the mind of these kinds of people. Everything is justified - everything - so long as it serves them.

Trump is now going after Mueller against the advice of his lawyers. Why? Why would he risk obstruction of justice and Congress - because he's an idiot? NO! Because he knows if Mueller goes deep enough he will find a truth that Trump very much can not let be uncovered.

Trump has 40% of this country. Republicans are afraid to stand against him no matter what he does. He is using a slippery slope to push the limits and continually get away with more and more. It is not that far of a stretch for Trump to claim the fall elections a "fraud". And if there was suppose a major cyber attack that disrupted election day to help him make that declaration thus keeping Republicans in power?

Look I am not saying that is likely to happen - only that you have to start entertaining anything at this point. Because it is complacent not to - and history is filled with examples of people getting F'd because they did not entertain what they thought to be impossible.

Trump just wants to be loved enough by society to do shady things that he'll think will be remembered fondly by history. If that means double dipping or making side deals to grow his company, great...who doesn't?

Maybe that's naive assumption for this cowardly fool of a bully, but he's mostly been a cringy joke who exemplifies civil corruption and partisan pettiness rather than a despot you're afraid of even mentioning, which was something real in former post soviet bloc countries.

Everyone knows that if he fires Mueller it'll be because he is feeling the pressure. If he didn't do anything wrong, then let Mueller finish his investigation. What is there to be worried about? Nothing.

Any top law firm/lawyers would be stupid to join this administration at this point, the chance of major setback is high and the president would not listen to the advises of his attorneys if they do not agree with his point of view.

I am surprised Alan Dershowitz doesn't acknowledge that he has already joined the trump legal team.

When did Dershowitz go from being a respected legal mind into an ambulance chasing, water carrier for this blunder-in-chief? What happened to this guy?
