Why not put a package together to get a future draft pick?

With a team that doesn't think to highly of draft picks or are notorious for giving away 1st rounders, New York, Memphis, and etc.

I saw that the Bucks had offered Gadzurich in a trade. I think Head for Dan is about equal value. Bucks only have two shooting guards so it balances both rosters. Gadzurich has a much worse contract, but Real GM says Head, Francis and the two throw-ins works.

You guys need to get real.

Unless its a great deal, Head is going nowhere.

He does great when T-MAC is out and avgs close to 15 ppg. He had a bad year

and his stock his real low so give him sometime  .

If Head regains his 3pt shooting. He could be looking at a full or near full MLE type deals that were given to Kapono, Carroll, and Korver. They're also a group without any history with the law or ever heard as malcontents.

Either way, if he doesn't regain his shooting touch, he's not worth re-signing. If he does, the Rockets could simply let him go with an eye on free agency in 2010.

In normal circumstances I don't think the Rockets could get a first round pick in return for Head even though he'll be a restricted free agent with full bird rights. However the Koponen saga brewing in Portland could see the Rockets profiteering from that situation.

Portland hasn't acquired the vet McMillan wanted. They added two rookies to their backcourt and a project who won't play in Batum in the next few seasons. They also lost James Jones and his perimeter shooting.

Koponen is waiting until October for an offer otherwise he'll sign a long term deal overseas with a prohibitive buyout for a 30th pick.

    Starters: 1.Alston 2.McGrady 3.Artest 4.Scola 5.Yao
    Main rotation: 6.Barry 7.Battier 8.Landry 9.Brooks
    Outer rotation: 10.Dorsey 11.Francis 12.Hayes
    Injury cover/project: 13.Head 14.Deke 15.Deke

The Rockets have the depth to carry a project on their roster. Rockets also do not hold a first round pick for 2009.

If they salary dump Head now it would give them some cap flexibilty which would be handy if a roster tweak is needed during the season.

I don't think that would have ever been an option for NO; the team is definitely in financial straits, made a big commitment to James Posey this off-season, and just sold a first rounder to Portland for cash considerations. Not to mention the fact that Luther would have no place to play, and they would be strengthening a western conference rival.

From Pargo's perspective, I think he could even prospectively double dip this year if he really wants to play on a championship team; Dynamo Moscow's not qualified to play in the Euroleague, so he could finish his season early, then come back to the NBA for the playoff stretch run.

There's a reason Dan Gadzuric is available; because he's an energy player who doesn't bring energy, and he's saddled with an albatross of a contract. I liked him when he was still on a second-rounder salary 7/8/1 in 22 minutes a game isn't terrible; but I don't know what happened to him after he signed his big deal. I'm not kidding when I say I'd rather have Brian Cardinal than Gadzuric.

    ^^

That is an ugly contract. Looking at their salaries made me appreciate what a good job the Rockets have done. It may not sound like much, but our bet players are being paid the most. Simple as tht sounds, not what is happening for the Bucks. Same problem at Portland.

How about trading Luther for Louis Williams of the Sixers? I know it isn't very likely, but the Sixers could use a shooter on their team.

That is an interesting tad bit that I was not aware of. Are you sure that he could finish his season there and still be signed by an NBA team before the trade deadline, or whenever it is that a team could sign him last before the final rosters are set for the playoffs?

even though I haven't posted anything in this thread, after reading quite a few posts I'd like to say my bit:

So, Luther cannot play, right? At least certainly not during playoffs...

    but:

He is still on his rookie contract...whats the hurry to dump a rookie contract? When the likes of Mike Harris is still on the roster being paid?!

He can contribute off the bench, at least during the regular season. I'd hate to admit it but Luther has become much worse since his promising Sophomore season, with a mediocre 07-08 season...So we still know what he is capable of, even though he might not be showing it on the court for most of the season.

He is on a contract year, hello?!!!!!!! people in contract years like Bobby Simmons play like all-stars in their contract year

He is an expiring contract...which means if he still doesn't show improvement during the period up to the trade deadline, we could easily package him along with other expirings such as Steve Francis' contract, which is a possible option, (although I'd love to see Steve stay in Houston for the whole season)
