The beautiful wailings of Fred Durst make my heart sing every time I hear them. I would say either Limp Bizkit or Creed. Ha.
The Who is seriously misunderstimated around here (and in that 100 list). I could put them behind Zeppelin, about it of those being discussed. The question is about "Greatest Hard Rock Band". I like AC/DC and Sabbath in lots of way and they are different--but they are not greater bands in the above definition (it doesn't say disqualify or penalize for being more blues centered than punk/grunge/metal).
Iron Maiden easily wins this competition, unless you exclude them as "Heavy Metal" instead of "Hard Rock". If Iron Maiden isn't eligible then i've got to go with Deep Purple with Guns n Roses , Scorpions, and Whitesnake very close behind.
A crappy list is what I would expect from VH1 because they are fairly meaningless themselves. I have no problem with them, though, because they do not exist in my life. I just worry about you as a person who claims to know about/like music basing anything on something you got from VH1. That would be like somebody saying they love and collect art and then finding out it is all Thomas Kinkade. But that makes sense...your taste in music is about as good as a Kinkade painting. Oh yeah, you also are really short, fat, and you have long greasy hair.
#83... not the best, but I agree with the mention... very, very underrated and overlooked. For your convenience, it was King's X.
You mean...who is the greatest? That would be Rush. They trump all those other bands in every category including number of albums made, number of shows played, number of tours, and number of hours played live on stage. However, since the category is Hard Rock and Rush is usually labeled as Prog Rock, I will let this one slide. If you asked me "Who is the Greatest Rock Band Ever?", then you know my answer...RUSH RUSH RUSH RUSH RUSH RUSH. You don't like it...screw u guys...going home.
I love arguing about music. Gospel --> blues --> rock & roll --> hard rock --> heavy metal --> speed/thrash/hair/rap/nu metal, etc etc etc. Punk is thrown in there somewhere. A huge distinction came about when whatever flavor of rock you prefer became more and more heavily influenced by classical music. A huge travesty occurred when some great bands got lumped into hair metal. So many people just don't understand that metal back then looked like metal-studded leather and lots of hair. It was a look spawned by Priest and Maiden, with Motley Crue as the peak of that particular look and era. If you lump them in with the likes of Poison, then you don't know jack about metal.
