    Actually if you read the Articles of Confederation, the first article is to name our country the United States of America. . . . so yeah it did exist.

    Independence in 1776, but Washington took office 1789. The missing time is due to alien abduction.

    I'd think you might as well use whomever was President of the first Continental Congress. The first time I heard this was on the companion website for that god awful "Assume the Position" special by U of H alumnus Robert Wuhl.
