The guy was 31 feet out from the basket. If T-Mac had been at least covering him who knows? For a team that's supposedly very good on defense it's ironic that the loss comes on a play where the defense broke down.
What was so difficult about a 30 foot WIDE OPEN jumper? Kobe would've sank it. ANYONE with legit 3 point range in the NBA would have a good chance of making it. Obviously Brandon Roy had no difficulty. His shot didn't even touch iron. The point is our defense miscommunicated on the play. There should have been at least someone in his vicinity when he shot it. You give a guy like Brandon Roy a WIDE OPEN shot and he's sinking it.
If Tmac guards him...maybe he has to go out to 45-50 feet to shoot. I can't believe people are forgiving that HORRID defense....you have to guard him...at least make him work a little...he let him get comfortable and shoot the game winning shot...that is inexcusable. DD
Bottom line: the defense broke down and left a shooter open. That's not a good thing. Also, I'm not sure miscommunication is the issue. T-Mac thought a screen was coming. When that happens Artest is supposed to switch. Except that the screen never came. Artest never switched. Why would he with no screen set? And T-Mac still stopped guarding Roy.
My opinion is that if the guy's got a hand in his face and he still makes the shot, fine. But leaving him wide open? Come on.
It is amazing hearing some people talk about the game of basketball.....at the very least you think they would watch Hoosiers to get the fundamentals down. And if you watch, Artest can not go around Outlaw, they are locked up together... AbsoFRICKENlutely....... A wide open shot? WIDE OPEN....that is the problem, if you guard him, maybe he has to go out to 40 feet, a much harder shot, maybe he has to adjust his shoot throwing off his rythmn..... Heck, I know tons of guys I still play with that can make a 30 footer a decent amount of time...including me. DD
let me ask all of you a question how in the hell do you pivot and still shoot the ball with out the buzzer going off. All rockets fans think back to last year. the rockets started off great then they turned for the worst. It will be the all star break before they start playing like a championship team. Tmac really came alive last night i was impressed. But one thing that i have noticed this year is tmac is sorry on d. he just stands there and watches his guy shoot or drive to the basket. I cant wait til battier gets back that. One thought for all of you out there do you realize that we could of had both roy and rudy "guy from portland"
He was pivoting into his shooting stance as he caught the ball. I'm not sure it was legitimately within 0.8 seconds, but I think some people are making it seem like he caught the ball and then baked a freaking cake before he shot it.
No, but he took longer than .8 to get it off.....of course, that doesn't explain the lack of defense by McGrady.... DD
Look, I'm not saying that the defense didn't break down. McGrady lost his man and he got a wide open shot. But it was still a 30 ft turnaround jumper. I just don't think the lack of defense was the reason he hit the shot. I think it was going in regardless. It's not like it was a 15 footer or lay up or something, if that was the case you could blame the defense all you want.
I saw the video. Looks like Tmac didn't follow his man Roy, he just watched him get the inbound pass and make that open shot. In other words, Tmac was by himself, alone, guarding no one in the post. Unless Adelman specifically told him to guard the post, IT'S ALL TMAC'S FAULT.
LOL. Look, we're on the road.. cheating happens like what happened last night with the clock. WE need to do some extra work while one the road.
But you are making excuses for a guy that was too darned lazy to move his ARSE out and guard his own man. You don't make excuses..you make the FLIPPING PLAY..... If Tmac goes out on the guy, maybe he has to go deeper to get the ball, mabye he has to adjust his shot. The point is that Tmac let an ELITE NBA player get set and take a WIDE OPEN shot...that is inexcusable....and to use an old phrase of mine. UNPROFESSIONAL. DD
Maybe so. But what bothers me is that he was open. I'd still be pissed off even if Roy missed that shot and the Rockets won, because he was open. Let's say that Roy misses even though he's open and the Rockets win. Let's also say that JvG is still the head coach. What do you think he would do? He wouldn't be celebrating the win. He'd be screaming his head off at the guy who missed his defensive assignment.
Yes, we're on the road! Yes, the other team might cheat clock. But that doens't mean you can just stand there because of your possible leg problem and watch them shooting!
