The question should be who's more competitive. And I think Melo win in this category regardless if Tmac is the better player. Competitiveness is more important to winning game than being more talents. What's the use of talents when you're not competitive and you're not willing to drive and attack the hoop??
People who look at the shooting percentages of players like Carmelo and Tracy (Kobe also) to judge their efficiency are forgetting a few important things. 1. They are always heavily guarded. You can't compare field goal percentages of people like Tracy and a wide open Shane or Luis. 2. Who had their hands on the ball at the end of a broken play? Your stars are going to end up with that ball at that point a high percentage of time. The only time IMO that a star player's shooting percentage is a real problem is when they are not deferring to others when needed (again, Kobe). Yao got plenty of touches and Tracy was a very good passer in his day. There was no one on our roster who's game I felt was limited due to Tmac's shooting. Likewise, Carmelo right now IMO isn't hindering any of his teammates either due to his shooting. Billups gets plenty of shots and everyone else would do well to have less.
To add to what I said above though...I'd have to remind that the Rockets of 05 and the Rockets of today are completely different teams. Perhaps Tracy's of 05 and Carmelo's shooting on THIS squad may not work out so well. With that said, I would still take either if the price is right.
Basic difference for me is: 2005 T-Mac takes a pull up jumper over 2 defenders and misses. My reaction: Oh, I can't believe that rimmed out. That's his shot. 2010 Melo takes a pull up jumper over 2 defenders and misses. My reaction: Idiot. Did he really think that had a chance? He needs to learn to pass.

Yeah. That's why I said individual god knows he never passed the ball as much as he should have.
that is why we all hate mcgrady so much. because he was so good for his first year on us, and he was always hurt after that. for 04-05 tmac was still amazing. too bad he didn't ever condition himself 13 in 35 was that year i hate tcrap now, what a bum
Thank you Captain Obvious. Did you really think anybody on this planet of Earth was going to compare McGrady's FG% against Scola's Both of your first two points are moot because obviously we're comparing him with the likes of Bryant, Pierce, Anthony, Ginobili, etc.
When you think about it, McGrady had the potential to be the greatest in history. According to most people, he never really tried during his career, yet he led the league in scoring twice, and is the 3rd or 4th highest playoff scorer in history. Can you imagine if he actually tried!?
Exactly. His regular season and post season numbers back then were ridiculous. And if you just watched him, it was beautiful. He could do pretty much anything when he was going all out. Melo just bullies and travels all the time. He's a great scorer but that's it. Even scoring wise, I would rather have T-Mac back then than today's Melo but it's pretty even.
Have to go with Tracy on this one but that doesn't take anything away from Melo. The big thing that set them apart was Tracy court vision Melo still hasn't learn how to make his teammates better and it doesn't look like he's going to.
This was more of a message to those on here such as DaDakota. Also, he DOES have comparable field goal percentages to Kobe, Pierce, and Anthony. Or did rather. Ginobili I'm not so sure about but your post was the first mention of him I've seen in this thread. Also, learn to be less rude.
If stats was all Tracy care about why didn't he just stay with the Magic I'm pretty sure he could have won a few more scoring titles.
There has been things in McGrady's game that Kobe can't do. There are things in Kobe's game McGrady could do but never did. The potential always teased us. A team usually makes up for the tragic flaw of one of its members no matter how great he is. I just thought he tried to do too much and broke down... Melo's game wouldn't require him to carry as much of a load McGrady did as he doesn't have the PG skills, so that might be a positive for him...
