This is the problem right here with the poll. Some people are happy and think Battier is worth less than Travis Outlaw and would trade him for a bag of peanuts just because he isn't a flashy dunker that drives to the hoop everytime he has the ball. These same people would trade Battier for Outlaw and throw picks in due to their perspective.

Other people see Battier as a unique player worth at the very least Fernandez and a pick/other player due to what he can bring to the right team with his underated leadership, cluth shooting and elite defense.

People don't know how to measure Battier like Morey do so many people just wanna trade him for nothing basically. Others highly value what he brings and are not giving him up unless it really is better value than just keeping him once you consider all things.

Personally, I see everyone that ever talk about Battier in a glowing light, from coaches to the media to guys with analytical skill way beyond anything I learned in college that measure all he can do in ways I never thought off.

It's for this reason I'm not in favor of trading him unless we get equal value.

BTW, who are these people wanting to tank next season in the hopes of getting a lottery pick. Even without Battier the odds are we would be in the teens as far as a lottery pick goes. No way I trade Battier for that when the big man is coming back next year. I would rather shoot for the sky and not tank a whole season that I'll watch every game off for the hopes of getting a pick in the high upper teens. Not worth it.

The 04-05 Memphis Grizzlies were a 45 win team. Their lineup wasn't fantastic

    PG Williams
    SG Wells
C Gasol (only played 56 games)
    PF Swift
    SF Battier

    6th Miller

They played gritty defense, shared the scoring and made the playoffs.

Top scorer was Gasol with 17 and 7
    Then Miller with 13
    nobody else over 11ppg.

The NBA is all about defence - and if Battier can anchor our defence (which he's shown he can do over the last 2 seasons) then there's no reason we can't win 40+ games. McGrady will be back by mid-season and even last seasons awful performances would be a boost (15-5-5).

Battier is great and a great piece to a contending team, which we are not going to be this year. If we could get Bayless & Fernandez or Biedrins from GS than I would definitely do it.

We need to keep shane so trevor can teach him how to step up in a decisive game on the road. Trevor can show him how to score 13pts in the 3rd qt when everyone else is struggling instead of waiting on a detailed formula about your hidden intangibles. :D

Battier is a great piece to a contending team, which we are going to be in 2011.
    Why trade him now?

The options in the poll are weird, trade him assuming equal or better value? Of course you should trade him if you get better value, but what is his value?

trade him for slightly greater value out of respect to him. he deserves to be on a contender if we are indeed rebuilding

For those of you who voted "Keep Battier", ask yourself this: is he untouchable? If not, then why the hell wouldn't you want to trade him for a better talent? :(

The blazers want him and I think we should do it for the right price. I want Rudy Fernandez

How did he "anchor" our defense? He's a good team defender, but not a game changer. This team was top 5 defensively before Shane came over from Memphis. Hakeem "anchored" the defenses he played on. He directly impacted opponents tendencies as a shot blocker, and was quick enough to pick off passes in the lane. Shane is not a game changer, and he was noticeably a step slower last season. He's not getting any younger.

Ill tell you what though. the ONLY way i would trade battier to portland is if fernandez were in the deal. HE does have a high bball iq and is a constant hustler. Imagine a more athletic scola who can shoot from all angles and defend.

Keep him for what he brings us now, and in future decades as NBA commissioner.

This is a stupid question. ANYBODY should be traded if you get the better end of the deal. But I wouldn't trade him if we just get a Fernandez or Posey type player. Apart from his mediocre stats, he is now the leader of the team.

battier's defense wont be missed! for all the talk about how awesome he is at defense and how they dont come along in the league so often...we have trevor ariza!!!

next season battier will be a HUGE liability on offense with the uptempo system adelman wants to run.

by the time you guys see he becomes the chuck hayes of wing players...you'd be eating your words of not wanting to trade him right now.

just look at james posey....his value was sky-high after boston won the championship and signed a 4 year MLE contract....now no one is even talking about him.

shane's trade value is THE HIGHEST AS ITS EVER GOING TO BE. Even star players on losing teams aren't even talked about...like jeff green...rudy gay...kevin martin..tayshaun prince.....so next season when we start losing battier's going to be seen as a liability more than an asset.
