ESPN is doing a poll on this right now and Fitz is beating White 40% to 25% after almost 500,000 votes.
Best, Outstanding, whatever. I don't know how teams create a "system" for a WR. Great WR's often get double-teamed, especially when their teams aren't loaded with talent. They are also very dependent on their QB. Pittsburgh is a decent team and their QB is average. Anyone voting for Jason White should vote Tommie Harris #2, Teddy Lehman #3, Antonio Perkins #4, Derrick Strait #5, Brandon Everage #6. If you're voting for White, you're voting for the entire team. If that's the basis for your decision, Larry Fitzgerald shouldnt even be in the Top 10.
Anyone voting for Jason White should vote Tommie Harris #2, Teddy Lehman #3, Antonio Perkins #4, Derrick Strait #5, Brandon Everage #6. #2-#6 don't play for the #1 offense in the country. Together, they create maybe the best defense in the country. Jason White is the centerpiece to OU having the best offense.
I don't see what 40 TDs and only 6 INTs has to do with having a great team around you. Chris Simms had a great team around him and had 0 and 10 against top 10 teams.
People who support White: Where will Pitt's QB finish in the Heisman balloting? Clayton should finish in the Top 10. White didn't do it alone.
Yes they would. Fitzgerald is better than those guys as Carlos Rodgers was last year. It isn't all just ht, strength & speed in being a great receiver--in addition to having these things Fitzgerald just makes plays when the defense has him as the #1 target. I like the Williams'es (Reggie too) and the Mark Claytons--but none of them have shown they are as unstoppable and central to his team as Fitzgerald. Like I said before, I don't want another Gino Torreta winning the Heisman. Give it to the best driver, not the driver with the best car. Maybe we will see in the next two games that in fact White isn't the best player in the land.
BTW after watching Symons less than impress in the OU game, no I don't think he deserves serious consideration. I think White is better than him, and I know Rivers and Manning are better.
Best driver? How do you know that Manning or Rivers aren't, in that case? It'll never be that way. If you think all three are comparable talents, then the player on the best team wins. About the receivers. Dare I say Fitzgerald is overrated. He's damn good, but is he significantly better than Roy or Mike. I don't think so. He's just showcased better at Pitt. I think Roy has even more ability than Fitzgerald, but they hardly ever pass the ball to Roy. And when they do, it's almost never downfield or in the endzoneas it is with Fitzgerald. Mike Williams is a freak. He should get just as much love as Fitzgerald is getting. Did you see that catch he made against OSU just now?
1. White's stats are inflated based on the players around him. When your defense is dominant and you have multiple offensive weapons including a good running game, a talented offensive line, several good receivers, the best coach in the country, stats improve. Funny how that works. When your defense creates almost 3 turnovers per game, your running game averages almost 160 yards per game, when you have several all-conference players on the line and at skill positions, you tend to score more. This Oklahoma team could be one of the greatest teams in college football history. I doubt anyone would say Jason White is unequivocal reason why the team is so great. He's just another cog in the system. 2. UT was not a great team during Simms' era.
Well his INTs definitely aren't inflated. What does that have to do with the players around him? On Simms, the team had a chance to be undefeated if not for, well, Simms.
So, if Larry Fitzgerald was on OU, he wouldn't be worthy of the Heisman? Yep. You can't be the best player in the country if you're on the best team.
I would say he is the reason why the team is considered one of the best ever. So there goes that theory. Oh, don't listen to us doofs....just vote for White!
maybe the reason OU's offense is so dominant is because Jason White is playing really well. Seriously - 40/6 -> that's insane. White. Then Fitzgerald, then Chad Lavalais, then Kevin Jones and finally Sean Taylor. The five best players in the country not on the offensive line.
#2-#6 plays for the #1 defense in the nation. Seriously, if Jason White is the best player in the country, how far is Teddy Lehman or Tommie Harris behind him? Are they not even in the picture? Here's a question: Do teams change their game plan just to stop Jason White? Do teams play drop back all their linebackers and ignore the run? You can easily double a WR on a mediocre team. You can't do that on a multi talented team like Oklahoma. Teams used to put 8 men in the box to stop a Ricky Williams. There aren't 8 men in coverage just to stop Jason White.
Teddy Lehman is a very good linebacker but is about a top 20 or so player, and Harris isn't in the picture, because he's not that good..
