We don't need another Gino Torretta stealing a Heisman because everyone around him is so good.

    I vote Fitzgerald.

I struggled between White and Fitzgerald. The award is for most outstanding player in the nation. Not MVP. Not player with the best stats. That should be Fitzgerald.

White is not even the best player on his own team. He's a very good player, but the most outstanding in the nation? No.

Symons put up impressive stats, but he is not more outstanding than Fitzgerald. I'm not going to say it's all the system, but replace Symons with many quarterbacks and they could put up the same stats.

You can't replace Fitzgerald at Pitt.

And, if last year was any indication, you can't replace White at OU.

I agree. But is that the only argument for him? If so, then Manning could win.

Does anyone think OU would be a worse team with Ely or the USC guy (who has great stats but like White drives a car so fine tuned all he has to do is not screw up versus having to make plays) or the NCState guy as QB? Personally, I am not sure if the NCstate guy isn't a better player than all of them, I saw him do more things with little blocking and not much around him than anyone.

I do not like the trend of the Heisman going to the most valuable player on the best team. White is the most valuable player on OU, but probably isn't even the most outstanding player on that team. The Heisman should go to the most outstanding player, that player is Fitz.

Well the Sooners were leading by so much at halftime in most games i'm sure his numbers might have been a little lower, because he would have been handing it off, kneeling at the goal line, or replaced by the second stringer. So I will agree with you on that point… dang Sooners. :)

    ...

They should just take that whole team pro, i'm sure they are at least as good as Arizona and San Diego.

Well, there's that and his 40-6 touchdowns to interceptions ratio, amongst other things...

You're right, I think Rivers is the best QB of them all. But White's had the best year, there's no denying him that.

And oh, BTW: White's sat out the equivalent of 1 and a half games all year. 40 touchdowns in 10 and a half games....pretty good:D

And Rivers had little to no help on the running game with TA injured 80% of the time.

But this race has always turned into not the best player in the nation, but the best player on the best team award.

I think a lot of people are making good cases for their individual favorites. As the poll stands now, Fitzgerald would get my vote at this point. I think this award judges the best player in college football, not merely the best player on the best team. But even then, you could make a powerful argument for Jason White, whose numbers are outstanding and who to me has been a huge part of OU's success. So keep voting and let the best man....get the most votes. :D

I don't get it. It's almost as if some people want to penalize White because he's on a good team. Did anyone ever stop to think that mabye the team is good because of him and not the other way around?

This OU team (which some are calling the best ever) is basically the same team that lost to OSU and A&M last year except for the loss of QG at running back. The main difference IMO is that White has been healthy all year. That in and of itself is why he gets my vote.

    Well said.

If you want to point out White's stats, then people can point out Rivers or Manning or Symons.

OU is not good because of White. White is a good player, but I don't think they'd be worse if you'd replaced him with Rivers, Manning, or Symons. They probably wouldn't be much worse with another QB either. He's definitely the most valuable player on that team, but most outstanding? What is outstanding supposed to mean? Most talented, right? Or something else?

And I wouldn't say OU is the best team ever. White definitely has something to do with their success, but the improvement of other players and coaching also would. Can't say it's solely or primarily White.

Would Pitt be much worse with Roy Williams or Mike Williams instead of Fitzgerald?

Outstanding has nothing to do with talent - it has to do with performance. You could be the most talented person in the world, but if you don't do anything with it, then so what?

White had basically as good a season as a QB can possibly have (highest QB rating in history?), his team is undefeated and possibly one of the best in history, and he leads the highest scoring offense in the country. He performed his best in his biggest game (Texas). *That* is the definition of outstanding.

    Outstanding -
    1. Standing out among others of its kind; prominent.
    2. Superior to others of its kind; distinguished.
    3. Projecting upward or outward; standing out.
    4. Still in existence; not settled or resolved-
outstanding debts; a long outstanding problem.
    5. Publicly issued and sold: outstanding stocks and bonds.

BJ Symons has a bunch of unpaid parking tickets and has invested in the stock market; therefore he should get the nod. I don't think #1-3 should count for the Heisman... :)

Damn, only one vote separates the two top guys in my book. Keep voting guys, in this poll, your vote really does count. I think that Jason White is the best QB in America and that if he were on NC State or Ole Miss, he'd be just as good. Like I said, if I were voting of my own conscience right now, my vote would go to White. So keep voting! :D

You make a great point. Is Fitzgerald really better than either Wiliams? I don't think so, but his production is what it is because they throw him the ball. Unlike Roy. Or Mike with the other unheralded senior receiver they have. Plus Leinhart cancels him out.

I think White will get the Heisman. I struggle between White and Fitzgerald though. I voted for Fitzgerald, but I can't really decide now. I guess White should win because he's showed up in every game and done all that you could ask of him.

    Jason White. Are you kidding?

The Hesiman Trophy is supposed to go to the best college football player in America.

Is Jason White the best football player in America? Is he better than Eli Manning?

    What a joke.

Jason White may play on the best team but he's not the best college football player. He's not even the best player on his own team. Hell, why not vote for Tommie Harris or Teddy Lehman, Brandon Everage, Derrick Strait, etc...

The question is who should win the Heisman?

    Larry Fitzgerald or Oklahoma Sooners?

If you're voting Jason White, you're voting for the latter.

    Ludicrous.

That's what I was thinking at first. Is outstanding the same as best? Best means most talented. Fitzergald is not more talented than either Williams. He's just in a situation to maximize his production. Just like Symons.
