White has put up one of the best seasons by a QB in NCAA history while leading the #1 team in the country and doing it against the 14th ranked schedule in D1. It's a no-brainer IMO.
Honest to God, I will use the results of this poll to make up my mind, because right now I'm very torn between Jason White (great QB on perhaps the greatest college football team ever beside the 1992 and 1979 Alabama teams ) and Larry Fitzgerald (great WR on a mediocre team). I would have voted for Eli since I cover the SEC and I believe him to be the real deal, but I think that Fitzgerald and White are much more deserving.
I would like to vote for Fitzgerald, I can't hold one game against him. But if White wasn't hurt, Oklahoma might be going for a second title in a row. He's definitely made a difference on that team.
Yeah, if Jason White wins this poll by one vote, I can tell my friends that I actually had a Heisman vote. Thanks, bamma.
This post got me thinking... Is the Heisman supposed to be a MVP award, i.e. without him your team ain't ****, or is it supposed to be a best player in the land award?
Jason White, by far. You can't penalize him for what team he's on or by saying that another QB would do just as good if not better if they were on OU. He's taken what he's been given and kicked some major ass with it. Now off to wash my hands after typing that!
BJ Symons - switch him and Jason White and his already record breaking numbers go through the roof. White played on a team that made him look better than he really was, he’s good but not as good as Symons. BJ made his team better, many QB’s could have played behind the juggernaut Sooners and looked as good as White. Comebacks are nice, but shouldn’t decide a Heisman trophy. The national championship should be White’s comeback award not the Heisman IMHO.
or which is it BS? will this poll winner BE your vote or is it just going to help you vote? anyways this is from heisman.com this award should go to the best college player, just as described by the award's own givers.. it is not an MVP award When you set the NCAA record for most passing yards and most total offense, you ARE the most OUTSTANDING College Football PLayer of the United States. BJ SYMONS should be the winner
Larry Fitzgerald. Those of you who are saying he lost it with his performance against Miami, a couple of things: 1) Miami is 10-2 and should be 11-1 if they had a QB who was halfway decent. The reason for that is their defense is one of the best they have ever had in the 20 years of my following them. Their secondary led by Sean Taylor are going to be future NFL starters. Taylor, who is a safety has a ridiculous 9 interceptions this season. 2) Pitt was trying to get him the ball, but it is hard when he is being double teamed by the best secondary in the country and their QB got sacked nine times by the Cane defense. Besides, Fitzgerald will be more of an impact player in the NFL than Jason White who will probably be like Gino Torretta in the NFL or other great college QBs who never did anything in the NFL. On the other hand, that means that White will probably win the Heisman this year...
Texas is also 10-2 and look what White did to them. If that's what you're basing your vote on, then you should vote for Eli Manning. Personally, I think the Heisman should have nothing to do with how someone is projected to play in the NFL. Look at Eric Crouch a few years ago. I think he more than deserved the award that year and he's not even in the NFL anymore. It doesn't take anything away from his accomplishments in college IMO.
Just think what White's career numbers would be had he never been injured. He would have been the starter two years ago.
Just think if BJ Symons had started the past two years - I can't believe he is not getting more votes. He also played with a bad knee this season for what it's worth...
Here is why I think Fitzgerald may win: (1) Surrounding Talent - White plays on the # 1 team in the country with little to no weaknesses on offense. White plays with Clayton who should also finish in the top 10 if not higher of the Heisman balloting. Fitz is the only guy at Pitt. (2) Backlash - White has as good if not better stats than past Heisman winning QB's but it may not be enough this year. People have questioned the top award in college football as a joke. (3) East Coast Media - The east coast media is in love with Fitzgerald. Walt Harris has been ripped for forgetting about Fitzgerald. (4) History - Fitzgerald is a sophomore. He may get the nod to make history. (5) NFL - White will be back for a 6th year. I believe Fitzgerald is a RS Sophomore (or at least he is 3 years removed from graduating HS) and may enter the draft. Both guys are deserving and in a "regular" year White would win but I would not be surprised if Fitzgerald won it.
White's got it locked up, unless he throws like 5 picks tomorrow and OU loses, then it could be close... Put him on OU and his stats are worse than they are with Tech. White's on pace to set an NCAA record in QB rating, I really don't see why there is any doubt who to give it to. His numbers are as good or better than the last 10 Heisman-winning QBs...Only Danny Wuerffel really compares. He also has the ball in his hands every single play, which a lot of people argue is more important than touching it 5-10 times a game.... I would not be mad if Fitz won it...I would be pissed if anyone other than him or White did though...
