This is not a better team minus Yao because the team doesn't replace his talent. I'm one of the few that think yao is replacable, but those persons are not on this roster right now. The player or players can't be on this roster till next yr.

Howard straight up is a replacement, Kaman and a lotto pick would do the trick also. Other than that, that guy doesn't exist. This team can't win a ring without that replacement, but this team hasn't shown they can win a round with him either.

I saw a poster talking about thread ratings and stuff. I know this is a way clutch and the other power get feedback. I for one never post or read a post because of a thread rating. Some people rate a thread on whether or not its about a player they like or not. Most times the objectivity is replaced by feelings.

Just another knee-jerk reaction thread. Everytime we got a man down, and Adelman handled it pretty well, then people "realized" that we were better w/o that man.

    So who is next?

I'm gonna go on the line and agree with you here ! I love Yao but I think he is too slow for Adelmans Offense. I think we need a decent big man ( not all-star calibar like Yao) and a good shooter and I think we would be unbeatable but Hell I feel like we are unbeatableNow....jusy my two cents.... :)

this is such a pointless discussion. Don't start hating Yao because he is injured. Be happy and proud that everybody else is stepping up. Same reasons why you shouldn't hate TMac.

I think everyone will agree that without Yao the rockets' defense will improve. But not that significant. Personally I think Yao is a very underrated team defender. Yes he has problem with quicker big men and cant save his life with PnR but overall his defense is still better than a lot others big men!

A rockets team without Yao is like the Suns and Warriors, that is, run a lot more, jumpers more and PnRs ala Run and gun! But of cause our rockets play much better defence than suns and warriors, the rockets without yao is more like Mavs team past 2 seasons ago! Remember what we always said about run and gun teams? Win games in the regular season but cannot win it all in the playoffs!

This is what gonna happen the playoffs when teams defence tied up, there wont be easy baskets for landry and when the jumpers are not falling, the rockets will miss yao's sole post presence!

To answer your question, the rockets may be better team without yao in the regular season but come playoffs, they will miss him!

Thank god you aren't GM of the Rockets. You will turn the team into another Timberwolves.

They are in no way better.

Realize there are a couple things:
    1) Yao is not a superstar, just a super role player so he isn't necessary for every game all the time (we matchup versus certain teams without him).

    2) There is NO WAY we are better without him, because fact is he doesn't hurt to have. He can give us matchup problems versus: Spurs, Lakers, Mavs (these 3 teams I am worried about without Yao).

We are a 2nd tier team without Yao and a 1st tier team with Yao, we can still win and probably get to the playoffs without Yao, but with Yao we can win a championship.

Don't tell me you like Yao. Anyone with a brain size as small as yours can tell that you hate Yao. What a stupid post.

ekim aka rofflesarusholz is a well-know lame ass hater. This fool has no life and he spends the whole day and everyday in front of his PC in order to wait for the chance to diss Yao. If anyone says anything that links Dream and Yao together, this moron would use the opportunity to say things like "Dream >>>>>>> Yao". Whoever thinks he is speaking up for Hakeem is fooled. No, he is not. This moron is just 'using' a Rockets legend (Hakeem) to diss a current Rocket player (Yao). This moron uses the name and the great achievements of Hakeem for his own gay purpose of hating on a current Houston Rocket (Yao). Now you know why I have been calling this moron a sorry human being, right?

Say what u will and I'm not saying mchale has been a great gm by any part. Before u diss the guy ask yourself a question. Why didn't any other gm ahead of him draft kg? Now we can all look back and say he was terrible which I'm not going to say if he is or isn't , but it wasn't him that did the under the table deal for joe smith that cost the team 3 1st rd picks. He wasn't the drunk driver that killed malik sealy either. Mchales problem was he had a passive superstar and didn't realize it until he got a strong willed guy like Cassell. The team made a run and didn't make it. After that extended playoff run, with mvp kg, they were in the lottery.

Back to the subject at hand, I like yao a lot and think he is a vital piece on this team. I personally don't think he is the end all, be all for centers. He's a good center plain and simple. If yao comes back 100% and I hope he does, the rox are a good team. If Kaman was on this team, the rox are a good team also. If Kaman and a top 10 lotto pick are on this team they could be really good.

If u take ur emotion out of it and just look at the situation, the production between Yao, Howard, and Kaman are very close. Yao being the slightly better on the blocks while th other 2 rebound and blk more shots. Its a similar situation between McGrady and Paul Pierce. If the rox were to trade tracy, that's the guy that can do what he do. Not Redd,Kevin Martin, Mike Miller, none of those guys. I think LBJ and Kobe this yr are on another level.

Its just about having a great basketball team. No disrespect to any player, but everyone has a value. Shaq,Kidd,Iverson have all been traded. Why is Yao, a guy that has never carried a team by himself so untradeable?

I'm just saying that this team isn't better without yao without adequate talent replacement. If u can replace his talent, then we can talk.

yeah were better without yao just like the spurs would be better with out duncan or the magic without howard or the suns without shaq, ah got ahead of myself there. u get my point, in no way are better without yao, you have to be an idiot to think that yaos doesnt present one of the most unique challeges to a team they can face. like im sure many of the others posts have covered, you cannot replace his talent, but we may be able to succeed without him.

Its not that the Rockets are a better team without Yao. Its that the Rockets are a better defensive team with Mutombo on the court. What is D averaging like 4 blocks in under 20 minutes. Thats insane. Let the games play out we will see.

better on defense because we can switch on everyone on pick and roll, that's our biggest weakest when Yao is in the game. But without Yao, we are basically a jump shooting team. When Alston and Battier can't hit; and T-Mac is ice cold then we are doom.
